Because I'm a big ol' sheep and if [livejournal.com profile] hiyacynth jumped off of a cliff I probably would too...

2006 in Fic Meme )

Dangit, I have laundry to do and, ugh, cases to brief. Classes start again tomorrow. Oh joy, oh rapture. *blehs*

ETA: I've decided to be like Andy and spend most of the day in my bathrobe and slippers. *happy sigh*

Am in the process of writing up my recap of road-trip and camping with the family. In the meantime, seeing as the authors have been unveiled over at Multiverse 2006, here is my story. It's a Firefly/BSG crossover featuring two characters who are wicked fun to play with. Read and enjoy.

I am so bored, you guys, it's not even funny. Teevee sucks, my brain is a dead mass of nothingness wherein even my old standby stories are producing nothing but 'eh'. I mean, you know it's getting deadly when even Sekrit Pretend World fails you.

And now the Mum won't stop telling me to tell the Wrestler things. D00d, did we all revert back to middle school, or something? *snerk*

Was reading a review of the Serenity dvd that was quite bemused by all the 'Whedon worship' in the extras. I found that awfully amusing because Whedon worship is bemusing. 'Course, I can't get too down on people who think Teh Joss is the greatest thing since sliced bread because I heard some of the things I said about Ron Moore this weekend and they sounded kinda worshipful. I try to avoid hypocrisy, but, you know. *rolls eyes*

'S funny, when I was learning to drive the Da would always quote Yoda's, "Do or do not, there is no try." and come to find out, thanks to the prequels, that Yoda really doesn't know what he's talking about. Thanks, George, you did real good with that one.

I love how on BSG Adama and Roslin are so Zeus and Hera. I know it's blatantly obvious and all, but when I first read Greek mythology in grade school the books made Hera out to be some sort of crazy bitch and I never realized how much that particular male-centric bs pissed me off until I saw Roslin. And OMG, I just realized that Tigh and Ellen are kind of Ares and Aphrodite, all he's really good at is war and all she's really good at is manipulating people with sex/love. Wow, that's kinda cool. Or maybe Sharon is Aphrodite because everyone always ends up falling in love with her. Or is she Pandora?

That's it, no more krazehness for me.

The Big Lug's on his way to Mardi Gras as I write this. I almost told him to get a picture of some hobbits if they were there but then didn't because that would've just been a little too awkward, I'd never hear the end of it. Yes, I am a little bit of a wuss. ;-)

Last night had a marvelous time of gift exchanging at FGC. I got toys and a dvd and comic books and with each gift that I opened my voice got higher and higher and shriller and shriller. It was great. =D I'll have to post a picture of my brand new Fellowship figures cause they're so wonderful!!!!!!!

I love toys.

I had this wonderful dream last night where Serenity Spoiler )

It's fascinating how the works of C.S. Lewis cause so many different kinds of reactions in people. Lately I've been seeing a lot of discussion on Susan and everything that happens to her in Narnia books. So many people have an opinion of what Lewis was trying to say there that is so completely different from my own interpretation that I've had to resort to writing fic. Because Lewis never said anything about eternal damnation.

And, you know, for all the grief that us BOFQ's give Mary Sues they can be awfully useful at times. *is cryptic*

Oops, must toddle off to flip my laundry. *whistles*

Some random links:

The brilliant Javier Grillo-Marxuach, writer for Lost, Boomtown, Jake 2.0 and so much more, is on LJ. He's [livejournal.com profile] chaodai and has a great write-up of his experience at the Emmy's. You should really check it out, the guy's just great.

Apparently, not only does Nathan Fillion star in a genre show but he is also a geek. You should really check out his comic book rant that I found over here. It's hillarious. I'm kinda a fan of his now.

There's a woman named Meg Wood who has a blog where she talks about her Boyfriend of the Week. She has impeccable taste. Check out the archive, it's full of a lot of my favorite boys.

It really is the Age of the Fanboy in Hollywood. Just look at all of the fanboys who are making it big: Peter Jackson, Quentin Tarantino, Joss Whedon, J.J. Abrams, etc. etc. Fangirls should start trying to get in on some of that action. The time is ripe for our particular brand of genius.

I am at work today. I'm not sure why but here I am. I blame the Puritan work ethic. Stupid Puritans and their whole 'work, work, work till you die or else you DON'T DESERVE TO LIVE!'

OMG! My head feels like it's going to fall off! I should be at home watching The X-Files but here I sit, stubborn and sick. Plus I'm not quite sure if I want to attempt the two blocks to the parking structure. *is pathetic*

But if I hadn't come in I wouldn't have seen the completely awesome 'River Tam Sessions' that Joss has leaked to the internet. He's a crafty, crafty man. Seriously, if you haven't seen them yet and are a fan of Firefly you should go over here and check them out.

I am so tired. Bleh.

You know, I bet part of my stress was being internet incomunicada for the past week, or so. Right when I needed the soothing balm of fandom and lj friends I was cut off. Am feeling quite a bit calmer this afternoon.

I watched all of the Firefly dvds in three days. Wow. Television Blathering )

Discuss: The word whore seems to be taking on new connotation as society changes. What is that new connotation (if any), why is it happening and how do you feel about it?

It's thundering outside. That sound still excites me.

ETA: For all you Potter-fans who will be buying and devouring the books this weekend please feel free to spoil me to your little hearts' content. I won't be buying the book, may never be buying the book and would dearly like to be able to understand the flood of fic that is about to be unleashed upon this corner of the internet. Harry Potter spoilers make little liptons happy.

Things have been rather hectic, of late. The office has been moving up to another floor and seeing as work is the only place where I have an internet connection I haven't been able to get online much at all since last Thursday. I'm sure I've missed all sorts of important things.

Am having a good ol' hippie freak out. The New Chick is in the office now, the one who'll be taking over my job come October and she's loud and brash and inappropriate and impinging on my territory. I'm all knotted up and nervous. I kind of want everybody to just go away.

Thank goodness for the all the Firefly goodness I've been watching the past couple of days.

Hopefully all connections will be up and running again tomorrow. *crosses fingers and toes*

So I was really wonked out yesterday. Came into work and immediately started with the headache, fell asleep at 6PM (which is only worthy of notice because I had to do my laundry last night so getting up extra early was necessary). Came into work this morning and got a headache, too. Empirically this must mean that I am allergic to work. ;-)

I am still heartily amused by how entertaining the weekend was. 23+ hours of The X-Files, various thought-provoking discussions, another viewing of Batman Begins and after returning home there were fireworks to see with the Big Lug. I love the yearly fireworks displays and my brother was so cute. *nose wrinkle* We met up at the park and he was all, "I feel like I haven't seen you in a while" even though it had only been a week. I kinda really love that Lug.

I got Firefly: The Complete Series from [livejournal.com profile] hiyacynth for my birthday and I'm so excited! I can't wait to dive in and see all of the episodes that I missed when it first ran and prepare to see the movie in September. *steeples fingers* eeeeeexcellent

Ooooo the Alabama quarter has Helen Keller on it. That's pretty cool.

I think I'll go get some falafel for lunch. That sounds pretty good.

I have seen Batman Begins and it was glorious! I loved everything about it, I even loved Katie Holmes' character! This is how much I love and adore this movie! I saw it on Friday and then I saw it again on Saturday and either tonight or tomorrow night I'm going to see it in IMAX. If I had millions and millions of dollars I would give them to Christopher Nolan just to insure that he would make more movies in this franchise.

At the Friday viewing saw the trailer for Serenity and it was really cool. I had watched it online like three times that day as I was bored at work but seeing it on the big screen is pretty dang remarkable and Sooper Sekrit Message for Hiyacynth )

I can't get over my reaction to this movie. I thought I would love it and hoped I would love it and knew that Christian Bale would be an awsesome Batman so I had pretty high expectations going in and I'm so giddygiddygiddy that they've been met and spectacularly exceeded.

And, on a more shallow note, I've got to move to Gotham because even the villains there are extraordinarily hot. I loved Cillian Murphy before this but now, wow. *is speechless*

In completely other news, why is it that talking to my mother on the telephone makes me need to eat a comfort snack? I don't think that's the reaction she intended when she called. ;-)
