Last night had a marvelous time of gift exchanging at FGC. I got toys and a dvd and comic books and with each gift that I opened my voice got higher and higher and shriller and shriller. It was great. =D I'll have to post a picture of my brand new Fellowship figures cause they're so wonderful!!!!!!!

I love toys.

I had this wonderful dream last night where Serenity Spoiler )

It's fascinating how the works of C.S. Lewis cause so many different kinds of reactions in people. Lately I've been seeing a lot of discussion on Susan and everything that happens to her in Narnia books. So many people have an opinion of what Lewis was trying to say there that is so completely different from my own interpretation that I've had to resort to writing fic. Because Lewis never said anything about eternal damnation.

And, you know, for all the grief that us BOFQ's give Mary Sues they can be awfully useful at times. *is cryptic*

Oops, must toddle off to flip my laundry. *whistles*

A couple of things. First, realized that we're living in the Mirrorverse. You know, that universe on Star Trek where Spock has a beard and everyone is evil? Yeap, that's where we are. I have come to this conclusion because the G.W. Bush administration is obviously the Mirrorverse representation of the Bartlett Administration portrayed on The West Wing. True, I don't know as much about the high-level White House advisors in our current administration but the strange, mirror differences between G.W. and Bartlett are telling.

So, obviously, the universe of The West Wing will go on to found the United Federation of Planets and journey the galaxy and our universe will become the one where Spock has a beard. It all makes so much sense now.

Put together my first themed mix about a month ago. Have shared it with a few but now would like to share it with all. Unfortunately, I don't have the tracks here on my work computer so there won't be any YSI-ing but, well, just enjoy. =D

Imaginary Worlds track list )

Got my Sam action figure yesterday. Yay! Now Frodo and Bilbo and Sam are sitting on my computer desk, telling each other stories and planning their next Great Adventure. All they lack are Merry and Pippin to liven things up a bit.

Word Origin of the Day: Relief - A raised design on the surface of an object is so called from the Italian root verb rilevare, meaning "to raise." With a related background, the Latin compound verb relevare means "to raise again," which ended up in Middle English as releve before acquiring the modern spelling. In this form, the word usage - meaning "assistance" - gained a different application, inspired by the concept of replacement of need.

Have emerged from the depths of wallowing. It was a good and necessary step. There seems to be a pattern to the whole thing. First there is the stunned disbelief, then the crying. After that is the depression and spiral of self recrimination that leads to extra large amounts of sleep in an attempt to forestall the mental castigation. Last comes the chocolate consumption combined with the getting on of life.

I couldn't discuss Plan B yesterday as Plan B was dead to me at the time. Now I can discuss it with impunity. I will now be applying to law schools. I take the LSAT in October ($115 to register. WTF is up with that?!). I have very little idea on where I would like to go to school so if any of you have any favorite law schools or schools in your area that you would like to pimp, please feel free. I would kind of like to get out of Michigan, if at all possible.

My action figure habit is threatening to spiral out of control In the past day I have won two eBay auctions, one for a Sam Gamgee and the other for a season 1 Buffy. This is getting kind of ludicrous but OMG! I can't stop! Must have more action figures!

Have I mentioned lately that I have the greatest friends a girl could ask for? Because if I haven't then I really ought to. 'Cause ya'll really are the bee's knees.

There were more blasts on the London tube just a short while ago. Those fucking terrorist sons of bitches.

Am addicted to action figures now. I can't help it. My Bilbo came in the mail yesterday and last night when I went out to Target to buy some camping supplies I bought little metal figures of Flash and Batman from the Justice League cartoon. Have also just bid on a Buffy Summers figure. If this keeps up I'm going to have to buy new shelves just for my toys.

Am going camping with the Da, the Big Lug and the Pup next weekend. We've decided to head to the Lake Huron shoreline up by Alpena. This is probably the place we'll be staying at. I'm rather excited, haven't been camping in much too long. Plus I get to use the new sleeping bag I bought last night. It's name brand and it was on sale, two great tastes that taste great together.

[livejournal.com profile] beizy has linked to a picture of Rupert Grint in his new, non-Harry Potter film. I can finally and officially say that I am a dirty, dirty old woman.

I am feeling the strongest urge to write a Hufflepuff story. The only problem is that I don't know canon nearly well enough to make me comfortable actually, you know, attempting it. So, I demand someone, somewhere write me that story. Someone also needs to write the Harry Potter Child of Divorce story because if I can't write about Hufflepuffs then I definitely cannot write about the Boy Himself.

For that matter, where is all the post-HBP fic? Enough with the meta and the commentary I need stories, people. Because, yes, the entirety of fandom everywhere does revolve around my wants and needs. ;-)

Discuss: If, like some have intimated, certain parts of fandom are rather like a high school cafeteria with their popularity games and dramas, then does that mean that all social interactions devolve into adolescent bullshit?

Am starting to feel the need to go back and tag all of my entries. Am still valiantly resisting the impulse.

Why isn't today Friday? Today should be Friday, dagnabbit! This whole work thing is highly overrated, I want to have FUN!

Had to fight to get my full pay. Don't they know that they're supposed to read my mind so that if I accidently fill out my timesheet a little late they're still supposed to give me all of my money? Sheesh, companies these days. Thankfully I was able to take care of everything and smooth ruffled feathers and everything is hunky dory.

Got my Frodo action figure in the mail yesterday. YAY! He was new, in the box and only $0.99. I kind of love eBay. I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm about to acquire all sorts of new dolls toys to play with. I need all the hobbits and the Scoobies and Mulder and Scully and Batman and Obi Wan and Mace Windu and ... EEEEE I'm so excited.

Wow, the thunder storms really cooled things off. I hear it's supposed to be pleasantly temperatured and sunny for the holiday weekend and then the heat will apparently come back in full force next week. I love thunder storms, they're so passionate and loud.

Come on minutes, pass faster!

Does anyone else remember when new paperback books cost only 5 bucks? I still expect them cost that much and I am always shocked and dismayed to see that they don't.

Watched the House finale on Tuesday which was very, very good. I <3 my new soap opera. Have also realized why the character of House pings me so hard. He is a sarcastic and damaged, two characteristics that get me every.single.time. The fact that Dr. McCoy was my first tv crush has warped me for life. ;-)

Oh, what's that you say? You would like to know whether I watched the Lost finale last night?

Well, Of Course I Did )

BTW, for those who are interested in my nocturnal wellbeing, I received a Robin action figure as a birthday present last night. I now have someone there to keep the evil ones at bay. I'm sure we'll all sleep much easier with that knowledge. ;-)

Word Origin of the Day: Armistice - This term has a long history associated with warfare. It originated with the Romans, who combined forms of the Latin words arma, meaning "weapons," and solstitium, meaning "solstice." The latter's literal meaning is "stationary" or "stopped," which also explains it application in astronomy, referring to the two periods of the year during which the Sun's position on the horizon appears to be sationary and begins moving in the opposite direction (the midpoints of Summer and Winter).

ETA: In honor of the Lost season finale I offer to you a recording of Beyond the Sea in french.

Yesterday was a good day. Thanks so much to all of you for your kind wishes and prezzies. Ya'll are the greatest;-).

Had dinner with the family last night. We went to an italian place in town that I'd never been to before. It was very, very yummy. Had cake at home and I opened my present. It was good.

Of course, the whole weekend has been a nice build-up to The Birthday. On Saturday had an Orgy of Shopping that included buying clothes and stuff from Bath & Bodyworks and an Emperor Palpatine action figure. I now have a grand total of three action figures, a really big Dr. Evil, Darth Maul and now the Emperor. I'm sure they're all conspiring to kill me in my sleep or some such.

Also saw Mindhunters which is a really bad movie. Stupidest FBI agents evar. Thank goodness we knew it would be less then good before going in so we weren't too terribly shocked. It was just ... dude, there are no words. *rolls eyes*

Woke up this morning in a very strange mood. I blame it all on the weird night I had last night. I woke up twice in some sort of panic, my heart pounding and my stomach in knots. Bizarre, just bizarre.

Today should be a good day and if the sun stays out it'll be even better.

ETA: Ooooo, I forgot to tell you about my skirt! I bought it during my Orgy of Shopping and it is wonderful. A little shorter then I usually wear them but it's all poofy and would be great for dancing. It's cream with a dark brown leafy pattern on it and just enough gold sequins sewn on to make it sparkle but not flash. I love it sooooo much. =D This is what I'm talking about!
