As you can all probably tell, I can post from work I just can't do a lot of other things like read my f-list. You win some, you lose some.

So, I put up a meme things last week where I offered to answer three questions about my stories. Both [personal profile] hiyacynth and [livejournal.com profile] dodger_sister asked for more about my Ron stories All Stories End and Burn My Sins Away. So here are three bits of background/head canon and one deleted scene.

Saw the last Harry Potter last night. Thought it was very thrilling and quite well done. My least favorite part was the epilogue, but I don't like that in the book, either. And it's not like they could have done the movie without it. I'm sure there are many Potter fans who love it and would bemoan its absence.

Have been doing a Torchwood rewatch with [livejournal.com profile] dodger_sister as it's streaming on Netflix (thank you, BBC, for allowing Netflix to stream all/most of your shows. It's wonderful). I think it could be subtitled "How to Shag An Alien." Also, John Barrowman, bless his heart, is still the least subtle actor on the show. And contrary to fandom opinion I kind of love Gwen rather a lot.

Now, how about a little more meme-ing. You see, if I do this meme then I have to post on my LJ. And if I post on my LJ that means I'm more connected with the world and posting is writing, even if it's not writing writing, if that makes any sense.

2 – Name the fandoms you've written in, and how much you've written in that fandom, and if you still write in it. )

Stupid rundown, achey day. Fie, I say, FIE!

Hey, you know what opens today? The first half of the last Harry Potter movie EVAR (until they inevitably reboot it in five years, give or take). I think we should have a Harry Potter party.

So, I'm going to post a bunch of recs and stuff and then you comment with your favorite Harry Potter stuff, or talk about your favorite characters or scenes or ANYTHING YOU WANT because this is a free, semi-anarchic conglomeration of likeminded people and HARRY POTTER IS AWESOME.

Also, over the years I've forgotten where a lot of the good Harry Potter fic is that I enjoyed and I've never been able to find all that many vids so REC ME YOUR FAVORITES AND I WILL REC YOU MINE.

First, if you haven't been reading Mark Reads Harry Potter then you need to hie yourself over and check that shit out. Because there's nothing more awesome than watching someone go from skeptic to full on geek fanboy. The fact that he's an interesting writer with good things to say is just icing.

There are a BUNCH of fics that I have lost over the years, but there are a few that I can still track down. These include:

Stealing Harry by [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge
Wolf's Moon by Cuthalion
Burrowing - A Simple Case of the Normal, Human Flu by [livejournal.com profile] dodger_sister
And because self-reccing is TOTALLY ALLOWED All Stories End by [livejournal.com profile] liptonrm

Please, you guys, I know there are a bunch more HP fics that I enjoyed so REC ME YOUR FAVORITES (by you or someone else). PLZKTHNX

Here's an AWESOME VID by [personal profile] lim:

Snakes on a Plane by [livejournal.com profile] dualbunny is also TOO AWESOME FOR WORDS and if I could find an embed I would totally put it up, yo.

And an AWESOME TRAILER:

So let's have a HARRY POTTER PARTY!!!!! Bring me your gifs, your meta, your favorite fics yearning to breathe free!

I had a couple icons I could use for the obligatory post-HP viewing but I decided to show some house pride. Because did you all notice that there was not one Hufflepuff student shown in the movie? My people are chronically under-represented and belittled! Cedric Diggory was not an anomaly! Ours is an awesome house and is in no way the waste bin for all of the kids that the other houses rejected!

So there. *sticks out tongue* [Plz to note that the preceding rant was made with tongue very firmly in cheek and should not be taken entirely seriously.] Hufflepuffs RULE!

With that said, let's get on to specifically discussing Half-Blood Prince )

While watching the movie last night this idea for a character/story popped into my head. I'll spoiler cut, just in case )

There you go. There's all of the stuff HP6 shoved into my brain. Now hopefully I can finish that damn Jo-Kat story that I promised myself I'd write this weekend. Come on brain, don't fail me now.

Just moved the family camping weekend up to the first weekend of August. All of us being adults makes scheduling so difficult. I don't know how we're going to handle this once people start getting married and spawning.

Though, man, I can't wait to be an aunt. A whole new generation to corrupt mold and spoil rotten.

Speaking of, what sort of books would you recommend for a seven year-old boy? The Baylor Sister and I were discussing her cousins' kids and I was kinda stumped. His attention span isn't the longest so more action-oriented books would be preferred. I know what I read when I was seven, but for some reason I don't think the Little House on the Prairie books would be a big favorite. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Saw a t-shirt the other day that was vintage-y with a picture of a van? (I think) and the words "Cherry Ride" written in seventies pimp style. You know what I want now? A shirt with the same slogan/lettering but with a 1967 Chevy Impala. If only I had any real talents as a graphic artist I would make that happen. *sigh*

Watched that new show Damages on FX last night mostly because it's about lawyers and the cast is exceptional. It was good and showcased exactly the kind of lawyer that I will never be. It's all about ambition and while I can be competetive, ambition isn't a trait that I strongly manifest. I would've made a horrible Slytherin.

I like being a Hufflepuff. It's good to be a Hufflepuff. The world can only handle a finite number of Slytherins, after all.

OMG, I think there's some sort of sporting event going on at my old high school. I can hear the loud speakers all the way over here. It's the middle of summer, what in the world could be going on? I should totally go investigate.

Aren't you people tired of Harry Potter yet? It's like it's the end of an era or something. Jeeze.

Ummm, the above is supposed to be funny. People (namely me) tend to think my humour is ahead of its time. *snerk*

Actually, had a Potter discussion with the Da at Sunday dinner today. Told him all of the juicy spoilers and confirmed a prediction or two of his. The whole converation made the Mum antsy and self-conscious as she had no clue what we were talking about so kept the whole thing rather brief, for her sake.

Being low on money necessitated digging into the back of my cupboards where I discovered a bag of mini-marshmallows and a bag of chocolate chips purchased for fudge that was never made. Throw my handy-dandy toaster oven into the mix and I now get s'mores whenever I want them. Awesome.

Saw Hairspray with the Baylors on Friday. It was a lot of freaking fun. There was singing and dancing and I was rather fond of the way it showcased the inherent ridiculousness of racial segregation. And where the end of Grease told adolescent girls that they would have to completely change themselves to get the guy the end of Hairspray tells adolescent girls that all they have to do is be themselves. And, did I mention the shiny singing and dancing?

Just talked to the Big Lug and am now amused. A few weeks ago he complained to me about this lame dating thing he'd been roped into going on. The girl who had organized the activity kept hounding and hounding him one day at church over who he was going to take and blah blah blah until he finally got so aggravated that he said, "Well, why don't I just take you?" Apparently the lame dating activity did what it was supposed to do 'cause now he's taking her out on a real, official, non-church activity motivated date. This, my friends, is a prime example of irony.

I am torn, I could watch Empire Strikes Back, Two Towers, or some season 2 Farscape. Decisions, decisions ...

The first thing I did upon seeing a copy of the last Harry Potter book ever was open it to the epilogue and spend a minute and a half skimming through it.

La La La I know how the book ends! hee

For the record, the photos released on the internetz were the real thing. This amuses me greatly.

If anyone feels like reading a completely different, completely speculatory account of the end of Harry Potter I'm still rather fond of All Stories End. Yes, I know self-pimping is rather gauche, and yet we all can't help but do it. Man, I love fandom. =D

I officially take back every nasty thing I've ever said about my family doctor. Yeah, he still needs prodding in the right direction but his staff got me an appointment with a rheumatologist for August 13th! Believe you me, that is absolutely incredible. I kinda want to make them all cookies.

You know who else for whom I want to make cookies? Eric Kripke. I read this s.3 spoilery interview with him and it made me flail. There are so many reasons to love our show and stuff like this is one of the big'uns. Carry on, Kripke&Co., carry on.

Randomly enough I put on the original Star Wars tonight. I've seen that movie ten million times and yet it never gets old.

I am feeling ridiculously spammy today. I blame living alone and feeling healthy, it gives me way too much time to sit around and bother you people.

First off, I finally re-started my Buffy season two rewatch. It sure has taken me long enough. Surprise - Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered )

Only 6 more eps to go!

A couple days ago [livejournal.com profile] hiyacynth and I were discussing ComicCon and how we had no money to fly out to San Diego to attend. We eventually convinced ourselves that we'd be too embarrassed anyway so it was probably a good idea that we couldn't go and make fools of ourselves. And we probably wouldn't like it anyway. Then, today I somehow found her convincing me to go to some Buffy/Supernatural con in Chicago in November. What was I thinking? My fannish life and my real life can't collide like that! I'll turn beet-red and make a fool of myself in front of Jared, I KNOW I WILL! *deep breaths* It's okay, it will all be okay. You're going to be a lawyer. You can do this. At least we're doing this together. *deep breaths*

So you know that scene in OotP (the movie) where Harry sees Sirius and Remus framed in the kitchen doorway and they have their arms around each other? I am fairly confident that it's proof that Oldman and Thewlis have reached the same conclusion as the majority of fandom re: Remus/Sirius.

Speaking of, did Remus actually say anything during the entire movie? I'm not entirely sure he did. That's unfortunate.

I just spent time staring at the [livejournal.com profile] spn_remix community before deciding I have enough to write and I can't let myself get distracted by challenges. I can't even gather up the gumption to finish stories I've been thinking about for months, I certainly shouldn't be making commitments to anything else.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] baylorsr I've been thinking about John Winchester as Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. He'd be a terror. And he might possibly be Harry's favorite DADA prof ever.

Order of the Phoenix is a fantastic movie. I enjoyed the heck out of it, about ten gazillion times more then I enjoyed the book. The adapters should get medals they did an extraordinary job. It's a great movie for its own sake, it's right up there with Prisoner of Azkaban and that's saying something. Two thumbs wayWAY up. Thank you David Yates.

Did anyone else maybe say something like, "Oh, Sammy" out loud in the theater during the scene when Harry was angsting about being evil and turning into Voldemort? Just me, huh? Okay, then. =D

It's no wonder that my only HP stories are Ron POV. I love him, like, a lot.

Tangentially, is it really necessary to cut for spoilers as regards a movie that was based on a a popular book that's been out for a number of years? I mean, if people don't know the plot already they probably aren't reading your livejournal. I'm just saying.

Before the movie I witnessed two adults having a fight and felt really bad for their little girl who had probably been so excited to go see a movie with mommy and daddy. Then, not 3 minutes later I heard her parents lecturing her about how she shouldn't cry every time people got into an argument. That if she cried everytime people argued she'd be crying all of the time and sometimes Daddy just gets frustrated and needs to be upset. I wanted to march right over there and yell at them to not be such selfish twats and if they didn't want their daughter to cry in public then maybe they shouldn't freaking yell at each other.

Assholes.

However, after getting home and making dinner I heard kids playing around outside of my door. At one point the cutest little curly-haired kid was peeking in at me through my screen. I waved at him and he peeked some more and I waved some more and it was kinda adorable. I kinda wanted to give him candy and play with him but parents rightfully get a little nervous about their kids talking to strangers.

Wow, it suddenly got really freaking windy outside. Maybe the Dementors are coming. That would be ... unpleasant. Kinda cool, but unpleasant.

Because I'm a big ol' sheep and if [livejournal.com profile] hiyacynth jumped off of a cliff I probably would too...

2006 in Fic Meme )

Dangit, I have laundry to do and, ugh, cases to brief. Classes start again tomorrow. Oh joy, oh rapture. *blehs*

ETA: I've decided to be like Andy and spend most of the day in my bathrobe and slippers. *happy sigh*

I finally finished it!

Title: All Stories End
Fandom: Harry Potter (AU Future-fic, Ron-centric)
Disclaimer: It's all Rowling's, I'm just playing in her sandbox.
Rating: R (language and adult subject matter)
Spoilers: Through Half Blood Prince, all speculation from there on.

( Ron curled in on himself, pulling away from the searing heat of Hermione’s back, the euphoria of the preceding minutes slipping away before he even realized that he could hold on to it, if he so desired )

That link will take you to the whole complete story. It's been so long since I posted a part that I'd forgotten what was going on. ;-)

And now, some words of thanks and a little rambling about the story )
liptonrm_backup: (Default)
For those of you who weren't aware Burn My Sins Away has a subtle Buffy the Vampire Slayer crossover in part 3. That has had my brain thinking ever since and whenever [livejournal.com profile] hiyacynth and I talk about it crack is spawned involuntarily.

The Magical Politics of HP and BtVS )

In other news I had felafel for lunch and it was delicious.

My mental block re: the Ron prequel is still being testy. So I'm going to post some of the early stuff in hopes that the editing process will give me the courage shake some stuff lose to help me face the rest of it. One can only hope.

Fandom: Harry Potter
Title: All Stories End (AU Future-fic, Ron-centric)
Rated: R for implied sex, language, and more angst then is healthy for human consumption.
Prequel to Burn My Sins Away

Afterwards they laid there, backs to each other, the rumble of mourners and friends filtering up through the draughty passages of the Burrow. )

You know that Ron story I said I actually finished? Well, here is part one, edited to code and encouraged by [livejournal.com profile] hiyacynth, [livejournal.com profile] baylorsr and her Sister. It is post-Hogwarts, post-Voldemort's destruction.
