Fandom Snowflake Challenge banner

Hearing about how LJ's servers are being moved to Russia has made me kind of nostalgic for the old girl. So when I saw this challenge I thought, heck, let's try this out, for old time's sake.

FYI this is the last post I'll be crossposting to LJ. I'll be archiving my old posts here on DW and I'll move any comms over to DW that aren't already here. This is pretty much what we feared when SUP took over all those years ago. Fuck you, Russia. Me and my queer ass don't have to put up with your shit.

Anyway, let's get to the challenge.

Day 1

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

I'm going to go with three (or so) fanworks that define me as a creator. For funsies.

The Burn My Sins Away series (HP): I've never been a hardcore Harry Potter fan, but these two stories helped me express exactly what I needed to express when I was writing them.

The More Than Just a Pretty Face series (SPN): This is me to a tee. Why yes, of course if I'm into something that's all about dudes I'm going to write an entire series of stories focused on some actual women. Plus it has baby's first porn, so that's fun and exciting.

Undertow (Narnia): I love this story. Period. Queen Susan at the height of the Golden Age, doing her duty.

Ruination Day (SPN): I've only ever made two vids (I've always planned on making more, but we'll see) and this one's the best. I made it for a friend's fic and it turned out really well.

Since I don't have the benefit of browsing my f-list and reading new fic during the week, I've started gathering it all up on the weekend and pdf-ing it so that I have something I can take to work with me. I've found that somehow limited access has made me appreciate fic more (and comment on it more, too). I thought you all might enjoy reading some of it yourselves.

Title: Undertow
Fandom: Chronicles of Narnia
Rating: General
Disclaimer: No profit was made in the writing of this story.
Author's Note: Golden Age fic. This is what happens when you combine a book on Renaissance history, a random episode of The Tudors and too much Guy Gavriel Kay at an impressionable age. Book and movie compatible.
Summary: Freedom has its cost.

( The waves dashed against stone, breaking over the sea wall that protected Cair Paravel’s harbor. )

As you all may remember, I spent some time over the summer watching The Tudors while at the same time I was reading Jakob Burkhardt's classic of Renaissance history. Well, one day all of that collapsed into my head (with a little Guy Gavriel Kay thrown in for flavoring) and came out the other side as an idea for a Narnia story. It's nowhere near done, but I feel like posting something in celebration, so here's the first part that I wrote way back at the end of August.

[BTW, have seen the new Narnia movie and was not overly impressed. It wasn't awful, just disappointing. I may devote an entire post to it at some future date.]

This is tentatively titled "Susan of Narnia"

Peter had offered no complaint. He knew well the weight of duty. )

OMG you guys! Dawn Treader comes out THIS DECEMBER not NEXT SUMMER like I thought it did. OMG I'M SO EXCITED I CAN'T THINK STRAIGHT!!!! I literally jumped up and down and clapped my hands in glee when I heard this.

In honor of this propitious discovery:

If you could have me write a Chronicles of Narnia fic, what would you have me write?

Other fic request posts, which are always open: [Star Trek][Supernatural]

I was recently re-uploading my The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe mix (as per a request) when I realized that I had never shared the Prince Caspian mix that I put together a long time ago. So I think I'll do that now. Hey, it beats outlining. =D

I CAN HAZ A KIRK GLASS!

Yes, I am a dork who went to Burger King today with the sole purpose of buying a Star Trek glass. I plan on getting the Spock and Uhura glasses as well, but not the Nero one. He was fine, as villains go, but I don't really feel a need to own his glass.

Being a geek is awesome.

Which makes an excellent segue into the actual purpose of this post because OMG I wrote something else! This is for [livejournal.com profile] hiyacynth who requested lovely Lucy and Mr. Tumnus fic. I hope this suffices. =D

What did she know about being a queen, after all? )

So.Tired. But had to post a couple things.

First: Saw Prince Caspian again today. That makes 4 times in 2 weeks. No, I'm not obsessive at all. *does shifty eyes* *sighs* I can't help it, it makes me happy and I need all the happy I can get. Everybody does. I went to an early matinee and was the only person in the theater right up until the movie started and an older couple came in. They not only got to see the movie, they also had the treat of seeing me bawling my eyes out during the credits. Good times (and I'm not even being facetious, or sarcastic, it really was a good time).

Second: My ipod is now hooked up with some great podcasts from NPR and BBC and PBS. *steeples fingers* Eeeeehxcellent. Now I can get all of the news I want and I won't have to wake up early to listen to Morning Edition, or watch BBC World News.

Third: Got my grades from last term back and thanks in part to SPN the death flu did not ruin my standing on the Honor Roll, as I feared it would. I got an A- in Professional Responsibility both because the subject matter is hella easy and because John Shiban wrote bad legal procedure in 'Folsom Prison Blues.' I almost feel like writing them just to say thank you for getting it wrong and making me correct them. And people think fanning is counterproductive. hee

And now I think I'll go to bed. Am very sleepy.

I have nothing to say about the latest wank that other people have not said. I lied, I totally have something to say;-) )

Aaaah, the joys of the internetz. Sometimes I wonder why I love them so when they drive me so crazy.

And I totally did not mean to post the whole screed. I got a little carried away. ;-)

What I really wanted to talk about was how wonderfully awesome Prince Caspian is. People, the Narnia movies make me so ridiculously happy. I can point at them and say, "Yes, see, that's how you adapt books. You keep the spirit of the story alive while telling a story that excells in a movie format." I saw it again last night and I cried and cried, mostly because for the 2+ hours that I was in the theater I felt as if I was in Narnia and when the credits rolled on the screen I had to leave, again.

I wish I had a coherent reaction to put up, I really do. Right now it pretty much consists of, 'OMG, that scene, and then the one after it, and then the one after that!' and 'I love you all so much I'm going to burst!' and 'AWESOME topped with AWESOME covered in AWESOME-sauce!'

So, yes, I highly approve. Oh boy, do I.

*happy sighs*

Just got back from seeing Prince Caspian

I want to go back to Narnia so much it hurts.

I've missed birthdays! And important birthdays, too! Happy belateds to [livejournal.com profile] abyssinia4077, [livejournal.com profile] shirebound, and [livejournal.com profile] belegcuthalion!!!! You are amazing women and I wish you each, individually, the best of possible years.

In other news, have been re-reading Prince Caspian in anticipation of the movie. Because of that I finally went over to IMDb to look at casting. OMG, you guys, Warwick Davis is playing Nikabrik and Peter Dinklage is Trumpkin and Eddie Izzard is Reepicheep! That is awesome casting. My movie anticipation is definitely growing.

Had a stunning revelation yesterday. It was that Dean Winchester is like Mr. Darcy, in a way. Cause just like you start falling for Mr. Darcy after seeing Pemberley, half the reason you love Dean is because of his car.

No, I'm not shallow at all. *snorts*

That totally reminds me, on of these days I have to put together my Top Ten Favorite Male and Female Characters lists. These lists will also include characters who I both love and hate (Josh Lyman, I'm looking in your direction). Course, lists require pictures and I so don't have all of the images I need. What?! Not everyone on the internetz is a pic collecter. Sorry.

Ever been reading a story and the author suddenly throws in a sex scene for no reason whatsoever? I hate when that happens. It's, just, stories have an inner logic and when a sexual situation is thrown in simply because the author is OTP it can go against that inner logic. I know it's revolutionary for fandom, and all, but not every story requires nookie. Sex can be powerful when used appropriately, but it's not always necessary. Come on, people, learn to write outside the box.

I hate it when I'm really enjoying a story and then things throw me out of the world the author was creating. This also happens when people use bad spanish. Apparently, I am picky. I know, I know, it's the complete opposite of a shock.

In sum, I need to stop procrastinating and get some worky work done.

Because I'm a big ol' sheep and if [livejournal.com profile] hiyacynth jumped off of a cliff I probably would too...

2006 in Fic Meme )

Dangit, I have laundry to do and, ugh, cases to brief. Classes start again tomorrow. Oh joy, oh rapture. *blehs*

ETA: I've decided to be like Andy and spend most of the day in my bathrobe and slippers. *happy sigh*
liptonrm_backup: (Default)
Two mixes for the price of one.

The Chronicles of Narnia )

Supernatural )

Let me know if/when these links run out and I'll be happy to refresh them for you.

Back at ye ol' job. Oh joy oh rapture. The only good thing about this (besides the money) is the fact that I'm much more organized and proactive when I'm at work. Things like filling out student loan applications actually get done in a timely manner when I'm doing them in a business setting. I guess that when my time is my own I fritter it away on the highly addictive substance that is fandom but when I'm once again a wage slave I'm all kinds of efficient. The things we learn about ourselves.

However, this all means that I am extremely bored. So, if anyone wants to give me a drabble prompt or have a discussion about anything whatsoever I would greatly appreciate it. I've got about 5 more hours left here. *counts the minutes*

I'll have to remember to bring my fic notebook tomorrow.

The Da is off to do some lobbying in D.C. I'm doing a great job of hiding how giddy the whole idea of my father lobbying congress makes me. I think I've been watching/thinking about too much season one West Wing. It's just, he's going to be lobbying Congress with a national environmental association. And his hotel is right next to the Library of Congress. It is all so gleeful.

And suddenly I have the sneaking suspicion that I am a big ol' public policy dork. Once again my nerd colors fly proud and true.

I think the Big Lug has a Girl. Okay, maybe more of a lower-case-g girl but, yeah, either way this makes me smile. The idea of my ickle brothers dating makes me want to pinch their cheeks.

So, prompt me. Make me think so that my brain isn't a puddle of goo by the end of the day.

ETA: So apparently the president of Walden Media is saying that they want to film Prince Caspian, Dawn Treader, and Silver Chair fairly close together in order to make an "interlocking trilogy", whatever that means. He has also said that Prince Caspian may be delayed until Christmas 2008 for FX purposes. WTF?! One more whole year?! I might die of waiting.

I HAVE NARNIA!!!!!!!!!!!!! *does goofy dance of JOY*

This is the perfect opportunity to discuss some Narnia related things that have been cycling around in my brain.

The General Susan Theory )

What Narnia Represents )

The Pup seems to think that there are more important things that I should be doing, namely giving him my undivided attention. He's awfully pushy, probably because I spoil him.

Oh yes, in more shallow news have decided to go no the cereal diet for a couple weeks, my jeans are just a little tighter then I would like them to be. In Narnia one needn't worry about things like uncomfortable jeans and diets. No wonder I've started knocking on the backs of closets again. ;-)
liptonrm_backup: (Default)
Here's another Narnia drabble. I might end up making a series of them.

King Edmund the Just )
liptonrm_backup: (Default)
I planned, at one point, to write a whole Susan Pevensie opus about how she joined her siblings in the Great Hereafter, eventually. Problem is, I kinda ran out of steam so instead of an opus I offer a drabble.

Queen Susan the Gentle )
liptonrm_backup: (Default)
Went to Best Buy today in search of the next Farscape collection but the bastards didn't have it. Instead bought the Narnia soundtrack and the latest Foo Fighters album. The Narnia score is even more amazing then I thought it would be. It hits me on so many levels, both visceral and philosophical. I love how great music can just take me up and away, move me and inspire me. It's such an integral part of my movie experience that without a great score I don't think I can fully appreciate a picture. Music, music, music, I would be nothing without you.

BSG )

New Lost tomorrow night. Looks like it's going to be a Mr. Eko episode. Very exciting.

Look at the beautiful new icon I found! I love that moment when Peter and Edmund finally see each other as they really are without anything else in the way. They're such boys because it takes both of them almost dying for them to actually hug and acknowledge that yes, they really love each other but, oh, it's just perfect. I love them all so much.
