Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Yes, yes, I'm mostly posting because I wanted to use that icon, so sue me.

But it is St. Paddy's Day and I'm rather fond of it. I wore a green shirt and everything. I have some Irish flowing through my veins, more than enough to justify eating corned beef and [not] drinking green beer. One of these years I'll have to scan&post the picture of me under a 'Kiss Me, I'm Irish' banner at a nursing home in South Texas. It's just funny. ;-)

Am feeling much better. Last Wed/Thurs/Fri were pretty damn awful but I seem to be through the worst of it, for now. *knocks on wood* I am a little sorry that you guys missed out on the post I typed up when I was high as a kite (hey, if I hadn't had to take that vicodin just so I could do my laundry I wouldn't have taken it). It was pretty funny. I remember rambling about Torchwood in the beginning and it kind of metamorphosized from there. It seems appropriate to talk about TW when you're stoned.

The [livejournal.com profile] xovers_ftw challenge stories are due today and I'm happy to report that mine is actually done. It will be posted momentarily. Now I can focus on that Forest Epic that just won't die. And the cracked out movie AU that exploded in my mind on Saturday.

Oh, and I guess I should start getting ready for finals. Stupid finals. Don't they know I have fic to write?

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!

Hey all. Am running around from city to city, picking people up before heading to the memorial. However, had to utilize some free wifi to ask a question.

Does anyone know of good places to advertise something like the Crossover Challenge? The fic communities of which I'm a member appear to disallow announcements like that. It's times like this that remind me that being one step above a lurker isn't always the most effective position in the interwebs.

Thanks, you guys. Any and all suggestions and/or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I would owe you big time, and it's always good to have a couple favors that can be called in. *wink wink*

In less melancholy news I would like to announce the First Supernatural Crossover Challenge!

DUN DUNDUN DUNNNNNNNNNNNNN

Beginning today and going through Friday the 25th we'll be accepting all types of prompts at this post here. So, if you have a SPN crossover that you've been dying to see, now is the time to share it.

With the depths and devpravities of winter affecting so many of us, and the writers' strike affecting us all, we could all do with a little something to make things a little brighter. In my humble opinion, there's nothing like a fun crossover to make the world a little less gray.

Come play with us! And be sure to invite everyone else to play with us too! Like I said in the comm post, the sooner we make the multiverse collapse in on itself the happier we'll all be!

Come on, you know you wanna ...

A new mix! This is a belated entry into my Pirate's Life ficathon from ages ago. See, this is why I should never mod anything, it's seriously not in my skill set to stay on top of things like this.

You know what's frustrating? Trying to accomplish actual work while at work and not succeeding because the program is being a little bitch. It's also frustrating that they're not paying me solely to read fanfiction, but that's a little unrealistic, don't you think?

Wow, how awesome would that job be? It would be so awesome that it's no surprise that it doesn't actually exist because the sheer weight of it all would spontaneously form a quantum singularity and all life on the planet would be instantaneously crushed.

I, of course, saw Dead Man's Chest over the weekend. It was all sorts of ridiculous fun and dirty!Norrington was hot hot hothothot. I enjoyed what they did with Elizabeth (girl pirates rock! \m/) and the ending was great on lots of levels, I was so happy I wasn't spoiled for it, not BSG season 2 finale happy I wasn't spoiled but still, the giddy surprise was gleeful.

This is the perfect opportunity to remind everyone of the A Pirate's Life For Me ficathon. Now that you've all been piratically inspired you can share that joy in fic (or icon, or vid, or what have you) form. Yay pirates!

Speaking of, I had just noticed that [livejournal.com profile] writerj had posted a pirate story and when I went to read it I couldn't because his journal had been deleted. J, if you're out there hon, I hope everything's okay.

Yesterday I got a call from the Mum who was all a'tizzy because she had learned that Patrick Stewart was coming to Ann Arbor in October to perform The Tempest. Upon learning this I hurried to send out the word and everyone I contacted was all excited and stuff. A few hours later I got another call from the Mum informing me that all of Patrick Stewart's performances were already sold out. WTF U-M and the Royal Shakespeare Company? Single tickets don't even go on sale until the end of August and it's already sold out? Ya'll kinda suck.

Finally, I still love my new apartment even if the quiet can be a little unsettling at times (I have contemplated laying salt lines by the windows and doors but rock salt costs money). If worse comes to worse I'm sure my action figures will protect me. ;-)

I learned today that two of my college friends, [livejournal.com profile] drunken_buzzard and [livejournal.com profile] chica_buena, are going to have a baby! That is the bestest news to wake up to! I am so happy for them and am filled with joy to think that a little them will soon be inhabiting our planet. It's all sorts of wonderful.

Don't forget to sign up for A Pirate's Life For Me! I like to think of it as the Multifandom Pirate Challenge which means that you can take a fandom or story of your choosing and make it 100% better by adding pirates. You should go check it out, you'll be happy you did.

I've been rushing to download all of the SPN episodes that I want before I move so last night was spent in the warming glow of my computer (after I had finished moving boxes, that is). I kinda love this show.

Oh Sammy, you're such a little brother, it's adorable )

I swear I had something else to say but Sam and Dean have completely driven all other thoughts out of my head. Good job, guys, carry on.

Once upon a time the prospect of pirates did not excite me. I saw Pirates of the Caribbean in the theater and thought it was fun but, really, how great could a movie based on an amusement park ride be? I received the dvd as a Christmas present and was actually a little disappointed. I look back on that attitude now and all I can do is shake my head in shame. *sigh*

A few years have passed and now Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest is coming out and I am so excited I can hardly see straight! There will be sword fights! And daring escapes! And adventures on the High Sea! It'll be wonderful.

In honor of this momentous occasion and as a repentant gesture for my former attitude, I've decided to host a pirate ficathon. It'll be an anything goes sort of experience where a writer can use characters from any fandom or none at all, just so long as the story is about pirates, be they historical or modern.

And now, I officially unveil A Pirate's Life For Me: A July Celebration of Pirates (in Fic Form)! Go on! Check it out! I promise they won't bite, unless you want them to. =D
