Sep. 8th, 2006 05:46 pmA new mix! This is a belated entry into my Pirate's Life ficathon from ages ago. See, this is why I should never mod anything, it's seriously not in my skill set to stay on top of things like this.

2. Hole - Awful
3. Bree Sharp - Fool's Gold
4. Shawn Colvin - Nothin' On Me
5. Garbage - Only Happy When It Rains
6. Loreena McKennit - Skellig
7. Alanis Morissette - Utopia
8. Dixie Chicks - Ready To Run
9. Tori Amos - Liquid Diamonds
10. The Rolling Stones - Sympathy For The Devil
11. Meredith Brooks - Shatter
12. Joan Baez - No Mermaid
13. Pink - Trouble
14. Pearl Jam - Oceans
15. Camerata Boccherini - La Musica Notturna
Entire mix found here.
I do have a few, hmmm, I guess they can be called mixer's notes. This summer I was enamored for a few weeks with the idea of female pirates. I think the idea, the archetype of the pirate, for want of a better phrase, has evolved over the years to represent freedom from duty and care and responsibility. There's something very appealing about that, especially at this point in my life and it seems such a shame that there aren't enough depictions of female pirates. There are more then you'd think, Pirates of the Carribbean has done a pleasingly good job with Elizabeth and Anamaria. There's also Avi's True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle which, while not specifically a book about pirates, does tell the story of how a young woman finds her place on the Open Seas. That's what I created this mix to evoke, the woman pirate; who she would have to be and what she might possibly find in a life so different from the one expected of her.
Plus, you know, it's fun! Sailing on an open sea, the salt breeze in your hair, what's not to love about that? Come on, sing it along with me, Yo ho ho ho, a pirate's life for me!
