We've been watching Falling Skies here at FGC. Of course we are, it's about the alien apocalypse. The only way it could be better is if it were about zombie nazi raptors. I spend most of the episode yelling at the characters because, really, the vast majority of them are too stupid to live. I yell at them for wasting supplies, for trusting the wrong people, for not organizing the hundreds of people in their group aggressively enough. The moral of that story being that if you were ever stuck with me during the apocalypse you'd probably hate my guts, but you'd also survive.

Though, seriously, it always annoys me when people on TV fall for plots that are as old as science fiction. Aliens have invaded your planet, dudes, be more paranoid!

Ahem, anyway, here's some more meme.

5 –If you have ever had a character try to push their way into a fic, whether your muse or not, what did you do about it? )

I might have mentioned that a little while ago those of us who spend time more than our fair share of time at FGC got to have a [personal profile] hiyacynth for a whole weekend. It was most delightful. And while she was up here she gave me the most wonderful Star Trek shirt in the history of forever! And what made it double-plus awesome was that I'd just been lamenting a few weeks before about how I didn't own a Star Trek fan-shirt even though I have a hobbit, a SW, a zombie, a dirty-joke-about-lawyers, a Narnia tote bag, and 2 SPN shirts and then [personal profile] hiyacynth gave me the most perfect thing ever!!!

She is so the awesomest.

She also gave me a very interesting book about female superheroes called The Supergirls: Fashion, Feminism, and the History of Comic Book Heroines which you all know is right up my alley.

I have the greatest friends.

Oh, and because [livejournal.com profile] dodger_sister has been bugging me, I finally took and uploaded pictures of the infamous Apoca-box that she and [livejournal.com profile] baylorsr created.

Click the Cut and End the World )

Yes, I opened the Apoca-box. So if the Apocalypse happens now you know who'll get the credit. Come on zombies!

In conclusion: I've decided to dress up as a 60's housewife for Halloween (Donna Reed or Mad Men s.1 Betty Draper) which will be extra-awesome considering this year's official Halloween theme is zombies. I will bake you cookies, chain smoke, and then eat your brains!!!!

Dude, things around here have been kind of srs bznz, haven't they? I blame my stressful, shitty life for sucking the will to live out of me. However, in an attempt to cheer the fuck up emo kid, here are some awesome things that have happened in the past little while.

Last week, on Show day, as a matter of fact, the [livejournal.com profile] baylorsrs and I had an early birthday celebration. I made the Baylor Sister an LJ for her birthday (she's now [livejournal.com profile] dodger_sister but she hasn't posted anything yet because, apparently, she's kind of overwhelmed. She's been out of fandom for a while so it's taking a bit to catch her breath. Plus, LJ is super-shiny.) Watch out, fandom, she's finally in ur LJ reading ur pornz. =D

My gift from them was so super-fantastic-awesome I don't even have words. It's an apoca-box! An apoca-box is a big plastic crate that contains things that I would need in the event of the apocalypse. These things include: a how to manual with recipes for things like soap and laundry detergent and other things that we take for granted in our modern world, a 6-pack of toilet paper, a battery-operated radio that also has a maunal-operating feature, rope, a Going Rogue coloring book (which is surely a sign of the End Times), thermal blankets, glow sticks, and a variety of other useful things. On the box's lid is a hand drawn devil's trap of the Lazarus Get Over Here variety and a warning to open the apoca-box in case of apocalypse and that opening the apoca-box may cause the apocalypse. OMG BEST FRIENDS EVAR!!!!!

I totally need to take pictures. [livejournal.com profile] baylorsr and [livejournal.com profile] dodger_sister are geniuses; evil, wonderful geniuses.

OMG my Big Bang story officially has an artist!!!! I can't wait to see what our powers combined creates. Which reminds me, I totally need to request beta help from you all. Mostly what I'll need is a fresh perspective on the finished product, someone who hasn't been buried in my head with me during the writing process. I would really appreciate any help you could give me.

And as an enticement here's the summary )

*claps hands in glee* I'm so excited! I can't believe I actually finished that story!

And now I shall attempt to answer comments on my Srs Bznz posts. Though I may just surf for a little while before I have to go to the bank. Because it's stressful but it's gotta be done.

Went to see Zombieland with the [livejournal.com profile] baylorsrs last night and OMG ZOMBIELAND!!!!! It was as awesome as we thought it would be and more!

Why can't everything be Zombieland? )

I need to go see Zombieland again. And then again. And then again.

I re-uploaded my Plague Apocalypse mix today in honor of the End-of-the-World Extravaganza that this week has turned into. It's full of a lot of great music. And now I'm baking chocolate chip-pecan cookies and doing a little cleaning.

BRING ON THE APOCALYPSE!

Metallica - For Whom the Bell Tolls
Queen - Don't Stop Me Now
Bob Marley - Redemption Song

Had a very strange dream last night. I was at some hospital/asylum for some sort of program and it turned out that what was actually happening was that the government was engaging in a little psychological programming. I found out about that right before I was scheduled to leave and so I told everyone else in my group and we were all shocked and amazed. The whole dream had this weird edge of pain to it. It was all very strange.

Very much enjoyed the King Kong trailer last night. Giant apes and dinosaurs, oh my.

I have no desire whatsoever to see War of the Worlds. The increasing insanity of Tom Cruise coupled with yet another big budget alien invasion just makes me cringe. Plus it looks like Miranda Otto is only in it for a couple minutes and that just sucks. As does that line in the trailer where Cruise's character is telling his son not to get involved in the Resistance because there's no hope that they'd win? WTF!? If aliens are trying to invade your planet you do everything in your power to defeat them and you bloody well JOIN THE RESISTANCE! This is why Mr. Cruise has no part whatsoever in the RHAR.

Apparently Robin Hobb, a fantasy author with whom I have a passing acquaintance, has written a rant against fanfiction (it's over here) and while I can see where she's coming from the best response I have is "Why pay for books when I can get better written stories for free?" She's a decent author but her main character is a big ol' honking Marty Stu if I've ever seen one and the books themselves are so angsty and bitter that I kept expecting some emo boy to jump fully formed from the pages just so he could kill himself in front of me.

On the opposite side of the spectrum MaryAnn Johanson has her own idea of the role fan fiction plays in modern pop culture. We fic because we love.

ABC's ancient Rome miniseries Empire starts tonight. Even if it's horrible I will still watch every episode because I am that big a history nerd. mmmmmmm roman history guuuuuuuuuh

Just wanted to check in quick to let everyone know I'm still alive. Was ill with the flu the past few days and am off to a funeral tomorrow so my internet time is terribly limited. Finally felt well enough to sneak into work after hours to catch up on the friendslist and check ye ol' email.

Saw Hitchiker's Guide on Saturday and quite enjoyed it. It is very british and very enjoyable. Two thumbs up.

Hugs and kisses to all and I plan to be back around by Thursday. Unless the end of the world comes first and I end up having to run away to wherever one runs away to when the world is ending.

Remember, there is finally a new Lost on Wednesday night and I expect you all to watch and adore it. Toodles!

I go away for the weekend and everything goes to hell in a handbasket.

Actually ... not so much;-). I just felt like saying that. This momentary insanity brought to you by my overly large and rambunctious ego.

Well, aren't I in a silly mood this morning.

Not much to report weekend-wise. Helped the Da rake up leaves in their backyard. My arms are still sore from that one. Saw Sahara which is a great, wonderful, fun movie. It is everything National Treasure wanted to be and wasn't. The adventure is a whole lot of fun and Matthew McConaughey and Steve Zahn have just about the best buddy-chemistry I've ever seen on the silver screen. If the movie suffers it's only from the lack of a good, strong central villain. Indiana Jones was really lucky to have the Nazis to fight, they're always good villains.

My hair gets greyer with every single passing day. I suppose I'll have to start dying my hair and then one day, when I'm sixty or so, I'll just stop and everyone will be surprised by how I went grey 'over night'. Oy.

The National Brownfields Assocation is holding their annual conference in Denver this year. When the time comes to fight Randall Flagg I'm sure we'll all be grateful to have a bunch of tree-hugging environmentalists on our side.

Well, the world didn't end last week, though it sort of felt like it might. If nothing else the national events of the past week have convinced me that I have to get out there and do something to effect change both in my community and in the nation. I need to volunteer and I am very tempted to run for political office. I just need to do something to change the future that I fear is coming.

However, I took the weekend to recuperate. Shoot, I even called in sick last Thursday and then I spent the weekend watching the Buffy the Vampire Slayer season one dvd set that I recently acquired. Oh my gosh, there is nothing more theraputic then watching BtVS, even though season one was, on the whole, not nearly as good as seasons 2 and 3 were. And, just for the record, I am completely in love with Giles, it was inevitable and if I had been 25 instead of 18 when I had first watched the show I'm sure my adoration would have been cemented back then. I was getting rather possessive, it was kind of cute in a creepy way and included a litany of 'Back off bitch, he's mine!' everytime Jenny Calender came on screen. Hee

And may I just say, for the record, that the Buffy/Angel relationship is extremely boring and I care about it as much as I care about Jack/Kate on Lost, which is to say not at all. Blah blah blah.

I also accomplished much knitting over the weekend and completed the knitting bag that I sewed together from an old Mickey Mouse t-shirt. TV and knitting, the great panacea of all the world's ills.

It is so freaking cold. The furnace at home is broken, the furnace at work is broken and I just want to curl up under a blanket and never come out. Now begins the season of cold hands that are never truly able to get warm.

I was hit by a bolt of inspiration a few days ago. I love postcards and I know I'm not the only person in existence who has a fascination with seeing little pieces of distant (and not-so-distant) lands. So, fellow lj-ers, how does a postcard exchange sound to you all? If you would like a postcard from my fair city then all you have to do is let me know in an email and I will send one off. And, if you would like to send me one then you can go ahead and say so in that same email. Sometimes it's just nice to get something real and tangible through the everyday mail.

I was feeling rather apocalyptic this weekend, what with the fire that was burning in the fireplace all day and the reading of an old favorite, Alas, Babylon by Pat Frank, a story set in the 1960's that tells of the aftermath of nuclear war. Seeing Shaun of the Dead only enhanced that feeling. I really need to learn how to smoke meat and bank a fire, just in case Bush wins the election in November and order and stability collapse in the United States.

Sometimes I think it would be nice if adults got to have nap-time just like the kids in kindergarten.

Just got back from the Memorial Day Weekend of Party DOOM! Great fun was had by all and many great thanks have to go out to [livejournal.com profile] drunken_buzzard and [livejournal.com profile] chica_buena who were our hosts for the weekend and are officially the coolest people on earth. Barbecue on Saturday, ghost stories on Sunday, many entertaining, creepy movies and one amazingly bad/cheesy movie all made the weekend perfect. My ghost story creeped everyone out (probably because it was true) which is a nice change seeing as I'm usually the one who's scared out of my mind. The weather was, of course, sucky (I seriously can't remember a sunny, pretty, warm Memorial Day, ever) but the partying was great and the friends were even better. Love you guys and thanks a lot!

And I got a birthday cake to top it all off. Yay! And people I hardly know sang to me. Even Cooler!

Got home yesterday and went with the Da and the Big Lug to go and see The Day After Tomorrow and before I say anything else, just know that I Loved It!

End of the World and All That )

Now, go enjoy Tuesday and be sure to be nice to Mother Earth cause if I were her I'd be gettying pretty bitchy too.
