We've been watching Falling Skies here at FGC. Of course we are, it's about the alien apocalypse. The only way it could be better is if it were about zombie nazi raptors. I spend most of the episode yelling at the characters because, really, the vast majority of them are too stupid to live. I yell at them for wasting supplies, for trusting the wrong people, for not organizing the hundreds of people in their group aggressively enough. The moral of that story being that if you were ever stuck with me during the apocalypse you'd probably hate my guts, but you'd also survive.

Though, seriously, it always annoys me when people on TV fall for plots that are as old as science fiction. Aliens have invaded your planet, dudes, be more paranoid!

Ahem, anyway, here's some more meme.

5 –If you have ever had a character try to push their way into a fic, whether your "muse" or not, what did you do about it?

I say, the more characters the merrier! This happens to me all of the time. In fact, in the past week I have had characters do this to me in two different stories. Sometimes it's OC's, sometimes it's fandom characters, but I love it every single time it happens. You see, my writing style is both very structured and highly chaotic. Before I sit down to put pen to paper I think out every nuance of the section I'm going to write, I know the characters better than myself and I know the beats they need to be taken through to get them to the end game. But, at the same time, I am constantly surprised by things that happen during the actual writing. Suddenly, characters that I hardly knew before become central to the plot or characters that weren't even in existence when I came up with the story idea start to threaten to take over the entire story.

Controlled chaos is one of the things I love best about writing. When things are really good it feels like I'm just transcribing a story that already exists, typing up words that these people really said. There's something so amazing aobut the creative process. I feel so privileged to be able to indulge in it.

The only way it would be better is if it were an apocalypse with robots that looked like humans.

I just think things would run a lot smoother if Will Patton were in charge of everything. It's not a Cavetown Commie Sharefest, it's an alien apocalypse.

Meme! I love when this happens. I love when a story unfolds differently than expected and even surprises me, as the writer. You know a story that had this happen in a very extreme manner for me? "Drama Is Not Subjective". Misha wasn't even suppose to be in that story. It was suppose to be Jensen & Jared vs Johnny & Turtle - and now I can't even imagine if Misha wasn't in that story. He was the best part.

I know one of the characters that did this to you this week was BFF in F.A.V. - but now I'm curious as to who the other one was.

YAY APOCALYPSE!!!!!

And yeah everything would be better if Will Patton were in charge, but only if they let him actually be Will Patton. Because right now he's been significantly watered down. The real Will Patton would have shot Faux!Sawyer at the first opportunity, not turned him into a cook.

OMG, Drama Is Not Subjective would not be nearly as awesome without its awesome use of Misha. I'm so happy he barged into the story like that!!!

Yes, the BFF in FAV was one of those surprise characters. The other was Henricksen's dead partner. He just suddenly appeared in my head. Now all I have to do is decide whether he was Reid's romantic interest or brother. Decisions, decisions...

Oh, oh, whether he was Reid's romantic interest or brother. - it's gonna be so awesome when Victor and Reid come face to face again!

Misha does win everything. ;)

This is true - Weaver is geting all soft under Professor Tom's influence, which I think we are suppose to think is a good thing, except you know, for how it will lead to them all being dead.

I watched about ten minutes of the second episode of Falling Skies and it bored me to sleep. Here these people are supposed to be in the aftermath of an alien invasion, some of their children have been taken captive and turned into slave labor...and the resistance has all the excitement and urgency of a gradeschool bake sale. They're so calm about it all that they've already set up a makeshift classroom for the younger kids. Worst apocalypse ever.

It really is the worst apocalypse ever and if there was anything to watch this summer we wouldn't still be tivo-ing it. I cannot believe that they're sending their working so hard to give their kids a "normal" life. It's the fucking apocalypse, aliens are here, on earth, stealing their children. Every person, man, woman AND child needs to be involved in the war effort.

There are good people behind the scenes on this thing and it's still a load of crap. Oh well, if I can't enjoy it for its own sake at least I get the pleasure of yelling at it every week.

I couldn't even work up the energy to yell considering how that one episode literally put me to sleep. I can't believe Steven Spielberg, who created the truly terrifying alien invasion in War of the Worlds is the executive producer of this borefest.

the resistance has all the excitement and urgency of a gradeschool bake sale - THANK you. I sat here going "... are these people all on massive doses of drugs? Why is everybody so CALM?". Then I got bored and changed the channel to watch QI. o_O

This is definitely the most "family friendly" alien invasion I've ever seen. I'm expecting them to set up a book club or quilting bee any day now.

Maybe they can teach the aliens to read by inviting THEM to the book club...?

The only way it could be better is if it were about zombie nazi raptors. - You just made me snort wine everywhere. :D *wipes monitor and keyboard*

I spend most of the episode yelling at the characters because, really, the vast majority of them are too stupid to live. - Oh, good, it isn't just me then. I was SO excited when I saw it was airing here, tried to watch it and was OMG SO FREAKIN' BORED.

Then again, the pilot ep of The X-Files was kinda crap. So was the pilot of Spaced. Maybe it gets better? *hopeful face*
