How do the weeks go by so quickly? I feel like I just did one of these.

A lot of fic in the past few weeks came from [livejournal.com profile] deancasbigbang. The challenge ended last week and there's a full index of this year's stuff over at the community. I haven't had time to read it all, yet, so the interested should definitely check that out and see what I've missed.

The Winchester Revision by [livejournal.com profile] proxydialogue
A recently de-deified Chuck, dying in Italy, decides to revise the story of Sam and Dean and Cas to give it the fairytale ending it deserves as a last hurrah before he goes. In a world with no monsters Dean Winchester goes to the University of Delaware for physics and engineering where a terrible twist of fate lands him in a Feminism and Literature class for one of his general electives. It is taught by a dark haired, blue-eyed professor named Castiel. Sam, meanwhile, is a boy genius who gets into college at sixteen and really is going to be a lawyer this time as soon as he finishes his English degree at UDel and gets into Stanford. But the more Chuck writes, the more he discovers about himself, his characters and the friends he will never see again; because some stories must be told. Longfic, quasi-AU, Dean/Cas

Without a Map by [livejournal.com profile] jaimeykay and [livejournal.com profile] twoskeletons
Set after 5x03 and before 5x04. Dean knows a thing or two about absent fathers, but he didn’t expect Castiel to ask him if he wanted to come along on the search for God. He also didn’t expect to say yes. Cue the two of them going around the world, from mountain peaks to bustling cities to subterranean caverns. They talk with prophets, angels, and deities, but they are running out of leads and running out of time. As the dead ends and red herrings pile up, so do their frustrations, testing their faith in each other and themselves. Longfic

The Incredible Tale of Dean Winchester and the Angel Who Fell From the Sky by [livejournal.com profile] ibroketuesday and [livejournal.com profile] xxamlaxx
Loose retelling of Gabriel García Márquez’s A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings, set in the Pacific Northwest of the late 1920s. Sam and Dean have retired young from hunting and moved to an island, and they're failing miserably in their attempt at being fishermen when a storm sends an angel crashing into their yard. Castiel is a feral creature with black wings and taloned feet, and though initially Dean regards him as a monster, the bond that develops between the two will set them against murderers, reveal a dark secret of angel society, and change both of them forever. Also, Castiel is naked the entire time. Longfic, AU

The Pup is giving me grief. He does not seem to understand that the ice cream in the bowl is mine and no I will not give it to him. Mine!

'Twas a lovely day today. The maple trees around the neighbourhood all decided that they would turn this lovely golden yellow shade over night. While walking it felt almost as if I were in Lothlorien. Autumn does amazing things for the imagination, no wonder Bilbo (and Frodo) always got antsy in the Fall.

I learned today that Michael Piller recently passed away. He was a god among Star Trek writers and the co-creator of DS9 (as well as complete creator of The Dead Zone tv series). I've always respected, admired and loved his unique talent and vision and they will all be terribly missed. Requiescat in pace.

No, Pup, I won't give you my ice cream!

So, the turn indicator on my car (the Hobbit) has been acting funny for ages and the Wrestler suddenly fixed it with the touch of a button, leading me to contemplate mutant powers, again. I can't quite decide what my mutant power would be. There are just too many possibilities. Plus there's always the difference between what one would like them to be and what they would actually be. I'm sure Scott Summers didn't want to suddenly have visious beams of light come shooting out of his eyes but shoot they did. I love the X-Men and they're hardly concealed metaphors about the adolescent experience. ;-)

Ha HA! The Pup has given up and gone to greener pastures. I am victorious, once again!

I hate being a woman. This month I'm uber-hormonal, last month was something else, I'm sure next month my insides will just explode and I'll thank them for it. Plus things are still obnoxious at work and I kind of blew up at my other boss today (well, both of them, actually), which was bad. I needed to get home and get some ibuprofen and other necessities and he had some bills he needed printed out last minute and I reacted badly.

After I got back I sat down and bawled my eyes out. Oh the drama. And I just wrote up a whole, ranty little section comparing jobs I've had that I just had to erase because it was really boring. I'm here to distract myself, not make everything worse! =D

On the distraction front, Matthew Vaughn has left X3 for "personal reasons". I don't know what they were but I wish he hadn't done that. Behind the scenes drama is never good for a movie and I want this next movie to be as good or better then its predecessors. I lay all of the blame squarely on Bryan Singer's shoulders. Who cares about Superman anyway?

Am off to have a picnic with the Mum. She's can be so sweet, she heard me answer the phone in a more subdued then normal voice and insisted on taking me out somewhere. See, there is still good in the world, Mr. Frodo!

It's 11AM and I am bored, bored, boredboredbored. So I'll come and annoy all of you. =D

I bought sandles that are too small. This should teach me not to try and buy shoes when I'm in a hurry. The size is right but, seeing as I have freakishly high arches, the strap thingy isn't stretchy enough so my foot doesn't fit quite right. Thank goodness they were very, very inexpensive.

I hear that Kelsey Grammer and Maggie Grace have been cast in X3 as Beast and Kitty Pryde, respectively. I've seen a lot of negative reactions to this but, really, it doesn't seem so bad. I can see this working.

What is up with all of the little starlets trying to look exactly the same?! I click into my hotmail account and am met with a story about how Lindsey Lohan has lost 30 pounds and died her hair blonde. Dude, what is up with that?! She looks like some refugee now and there's a reason why nations send so much help to people who have been displaced by things like war and famine because those people are starving to death! It isn't in any way healthy! Poor child went from cute to ugly and she doesn't even realize it.

Hollywood is so fucked up. I was reading a book last night with a female character who is described as 'plump' and she's the closest thing that book has to a female romantic lead. I thought this was pretty dang cool but I just know if a movie were ever made of that book they would cast someone like Renee Zellweger and the actress would put on 30 lbs., thereby reaching a normal weight and all the critics and fashionistas would be going on and on about how fat the character is and how courageous the actress was for putting on so much weight. And then I would have to kill something.

Am now attempting to eat Jello with a plastic knife. It's not particulary effective.

ETA: Due to my rant about stupid Hollywood and its stupid skinny, androgynous 'beauties' I forgot to report that Topher Grace has been cast in Spider-man 3. Duuuuuuude, I love Topher.

It's raining and thundering here, which normally I would adore except the back seat of my parents' van is sitting out in the driveway (it's a long, aggravating, boring story that, trust me, you don't need to hear) and it's getting all wet. WOE! Why couldn't the rain have waited until after lunch?

So, two movies are opening today that I'm interested in. The one with the good reviews is Layer Cake from director Matthew Vaughn. Not only must I see this in order to judge what kind of a director he is as he is about to take Bryan Singer's place in the X-Men franchise but it also stars two of my boys, Colm Meaney and Dexter Fletcher (who is described in one review as a womanizing con artist, oh johnny). Unfortunately it only opens in NY and LA and might maybe make it out to the midwest, maybe.

Though, this does give me the chance to go see Mindhunters with [livejournal.com profile] baylorsr and her Sister. This is going to be a horrible movie with reviews ranging from mediocre to awful (Nick over at CHUD.com said it was the dumbest movie he's seen all year) but I don't care because it has Jonny Lee Miller and Eion Bailey. 'Nuff said. I'm giggling already.

Someday I will again be excited to go to the theater and see a truly great piece of cinema. Today is not that day.

Dude, it's hailing now! We're having some wicked crazy weather and that's a fact.

When I was a kid I mostly remember my parents watching PBS. I have very strong memories of Dr. Who on Saturday afternoons and Masterpiece Theatre and Mystery! and Nova. I grew up whetting my tv viewing teeth on Sesame Street and Reading Rainbow and Mr. Roger's Neighborhood and Voyage of the Mimi. Now as an adult I seem to be rediscovering the PBS love. It still shows some of the best stuff on television. All I need is HBO for the dramas, PBS for the documentaries and news broadcasts and British shows, Cartoon Network for the cartoons and Food Network for when there's nothing else on and I need to watch something. This has been another episode of 'If Only I Ran Television ...'

Speaking of crazy tangents, while eating dark chocolate peanut M&Ms last night I had the crackiest most Mary Sue-ified idea ever. Okay, so we know that Obi-Wan says that Vader and the Emperor killed all the Jedi but, you know that wily Kenobi was always twisting words and truth and stuff. We also know that the Jedi Council, for all its wisdom never noticed that Anakin went off and got himself hitched. Obviously they weren't keeping the closest of tabs on their young Jedis. So, just imagine if you will, a bunch of Jedi fangirls who put aside fighting for truth and justice for a while and follow some celebrity around as he/she/it tours the Known Galaxy. They're completely oblivious to the Clone Wars and the Rise of the Empire and by the time the tour ends all the Jedi are mostly dead. And then I realized that I was writing a Mary Sue in my head so I stopped because down that road lies Madness. But wouldn't fangirl!Jedi be just about the coolest thing ever? Or possibly the crackiest.

I hear that George Lucas is going to guest star on an episode of The OC. I also hear that Lucasfilm has started working on some televised Star Wars programs. Oh, and apparently Kitty Pryde is going to have a bigger role in the upcoming X-Men movie and that there will also be Juggernaut and Dark Phoenix. And that's all combined with Beast and Angel and Gambit. That's going to be a really full movie.

I have to remember to mail off the money order so I can get the thing I won on eBay. I'd tell you what I won but seeing as I have plans to use it as a birthday present for someone who can see this I think I'll keep you all in suspense instead.

Before I forget, the whole reason I was posting was to let you all know that I finally downloaded Yahoo! Messenger and can be found using the name liptonrm. The babble, it burns precious.

Another beautiful day. I feel blessed beyond words.

The New Person just came into my office. She asked for a pencil sharpener and I realized that there isn't one to be had in the entire office. How have we gone on for so long without a pencil sharpener? See, this is why I'm not meant to be an office manager for the rest of my life, not because I'm 'better then this' *eyeroll* or anything like that but because I'm not really all that good at it. Donna Moss I am not;-).

Just so you know, I typed that whole last paragraph in a cheerfully self-deprecating tone. Am rather amused by the whole thing.

I may not win any secretary awards but I do have some sort of weird psychic control over who my bosses hire as they hired the person I wanted them to and I didn't even have to tell them. I do reign supreme.

Just heard that Famke Janssen will be back for the third X-Men film. And I have to make a retraction, you remember how I reported that Angel was going to be played by a woman? Well, one of the producers (I want to say Joel Silver but I'm not sure he's working on this one) has come out and said that that is a vicious lie. Angel will be a character and will be the appropriate sex. We can all now breathe a sigh of relief.

Found out a little while ago that my first high school crush and his wife are expecting their first kid. Just when I'd finally gotten used to my old friends and/or schoolmates getting married I find that they're starting to procreate. I was shocked and then I was happy for them and then ... well, let's just say I was a silly little kid back in the day and leave it at that;-).

Baylor did beat MSU last night. The Vortex triumphs again.

A few things before I get into the bulk of what I have to say. Firstly, Happy St. Patrick's Day!! This is the day when all Americans can pretend to be Irish, but not really Irish, rather what they think is Irish. It all somehow involves beer and corned beef and making sure to wear green or else someone might pinch you. And, unfortunately, saying you have green in your eyes does not save you from a bruise, as I have found out the hard way.

Secondly, there's been some X-Men 3 news floating around. They finally have a new director as Bryan Singer really is doing Superman. The new guy's name is Matthew Vaughn and his one movie previous to this is a British flick called Layer Cake which happened to star one Dexter Fletcher. Also, the word just came down that there will definitely be three new mutants added to the roster: Beast, Gambit and Angel. However, Angel will apparently be female, a fact which means something to comic fans, I'm sure.

Thirdly, I just heard an old Trek rumor and while I'm not completely sure of its veracity I thought I'd share it around. Apparently Lt. Hawk, Neal McDonough's character in Star Trek: First Contact was supposed to be the first gay character ever openly depicted in a Star Trek anything. Apparently the PTB (including Jonathan Frakes, the director) got nervous about the whole thing and completed excised his subplot from the movie. Interesting, no?

Okay, now that that's all said I can get down to the nitty-gritty of today's psot, and that is my fangirl reaction to the HBO film And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself.

The Man Who is Dr. Webster )

Here's an entertaining piece of Pancho Villa trivia. In South Texas one is able to buy at pretty much any grocery store Pancho Villa velas. These are candles with a prayer written on them to the sainted and holy spirit of Pancho Villa. I used to have one, it was great.
