It's raining and thundering here, which normally I would adore except the back seat of my parents' van is sitting out in the driveway (it's a long, aggravating, boring story that, trust me, you don't need to hear) and it's getting all wet. WOE! Why couldn't the rain have waited until after lunch?

So, two movies are opening today that I'm interested in. The one with the good reviews is Layer Cake from director Matthew Vaughn. Not only must I see this in order to judge what kind of a director he is as he is about to take Bryan Singer's place in the X-Men franchise but it also stars two of my boys, Colm Meaney and Dexter Fletcher (who is described in one review as a womanizing con artist, oh johnny). Unfortunately it only opens in NY and LA and might maybe make it out to the midwest, maybe.

Though, this does give me the chance to go see Mindhunters with [livejournal.com profile] baylorsr and her Sister. This is going to be a horrible movie with reviews ranging from mediocre to awful (Nick over at CHUD.com said it was the dumbest movie he's seen all year) but I don't care because it has Jonny Lee Miller and Eion Bailey. 'Nuff said. I'm giggling already.

Someday I will again be excited to go to the theater and see a truly great piece of cinema. Today is not that day.

Dude, it's hailing now! We're having some wicked crazy weather and that's a fact.

I've said it before - critics don't appreciate "dumb" movies. Sometimes I want a "smart" movie, and other times I want to just veg and watch something with a simple plot. It's no coincidence that I also want to see Mindhunters!

'Tis true, critics mostly have their heads up their respective arses. Sometimes, shoot most times, a stupid movie is just what the doctor ordered.

Hey, did you know that the original cut of that Exorcist prequel that came out last year is opening on May 19th? I'm intrigued.

Yeah, watch out, it's coming your way.

And I think we were only on the edge of the storm, though whether it was north or south of us is something I can't tell you.

Welcome to summer. oy

Yeah. Don't hold your breath waiting for Layer Cake. I lost my shot at Millions because it was here for one whole week a couple weeks ago and not nearby. I usually have to rent the good movies later.

Yeah, I know. It sucks, doesn't it? What I wouldn't do for one of those small, artsy-fartsy theaters that plays little movies and has festivals and stuff.

Living in the midwest can be so aggravating sometimes.

Actually, we do have one (http:\\www.keycinemas.com). And it's not too far from me. (There is another joint much further away that usually gets the better-known "small" films that won't play in regular theaters. I never go there.) It has been a blessing at times, but it's also a curse - every week there's something I want to see but I just can't afford to go that often. They also have the omg best popcorn with real butter.

Wow. I think Colm Meaney must be a secret RHAR operative.
First he is with Scott Grimes in Mystery, Alaska and now Dexter Fletcher?

Ah Mindhunters. I flipped out so much when I went to see Sin City, settled in for previews and the first thing I saw was a movie screen-sized pic of Eion's face. I am however waiting for the cheap theaters on that one.

He certainly must be. If not only because I love him and will it to be so. =D

Any chance to squee about the boys we love is a reason to go to the movies, especially when there's so much dreck out. And oh the squeeing shall be loud indeed come Saturday night. The people at the theater won't even know what hit them.

Okay. No doubt now. I just looked at that movie on IMDB. Janovec (Tom Hardy) is in there too. The universe really is truly collapsing in on itself here.

Be sure to squee loud and clear. As loud as we shall cheer when we make it to Scott's concert and he sings the "stories from World War II" line.

YAY! I am eagerly anticipating the day when the universe will collapse back upon itself, a day which is not far distant. Here's hoping Matthew Vaughn shares a little of the Vortex-y love when he casts X-Men 3, well, if you can get more Vortex-y then having Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan in the same movie. =D

We unfortunately weren't able to go and squee and scare the theater people. We're hoping for next weekend, if only so that Baylor's Sister and I get paratroopers for our birthday.

One thing I still remember from my DS9 days: never underestimate Chief O'Brien.

Never ever, ever. You've gotta keep your eyes on that one cause one minute he's the jolly Irishman and you turn your head away and the next minute you're fucked. He's wily like that.
