The Pup just finished devouring a piece of denim we were playing the sock game with and now he won't leave me alone. Apparently I'm not allowed to type when he wants to be petted. *pets Pup* Nothing is ever enough for him.

Now that I have downloading freedom, does anyone know where I can find the last two episodes of Rome that I missed? I would really like to see those. Help a girl out? *big pathetic eyes of doom*

I was tempted to type up a whole thing about fandom prejudice and how it's not crazy for mormons to be a little antsy about that new HBO show. I know that I, for one, get a little tired of answering questions about polygamy every time someone finds out that I'm mormon. It was prohibited 200 years ago and yet it's still the only thing that people talk about.

The other annoying question is the 'are you Christian?' one. Yes, mormons are christians. We're not protestants or catholics but we are christians.

Maybe I should start an LDS FAQ. *snerk*

Aaaww, the Pup just made a nest out of my blankets. He's too cute for words.

Wow, time just flies by. During the week the weekend doesn't seem real and during the weekend I can't imagine that I've ever done anything but sit on my couch and watch TV. Life is strange like that.

On Saturday visited my friend Andrea in Grand Rapids (you know, the married one). It was pretty fun, had a good lunch and then stopped by a street fair that was going on. It was small but full of life and music and delicious smelling food from the vendors. It was in one of those sudent-y hippy neighbourhoods where people are much more affluent then they like to let on, kind of like Ann Arbor.

We were going to see Batman Begins in IMAX because *gasp* neither she nor her husband had seen it yet but it was a late showing and Andrea got pretty tired. We met up with her husband at the theatre, though, and that was ... interesting. You know, if you've been cleaning and then decide to go out and meet up with your wife and one of her oldest friends you should really shower first. I'm just saying. Oh, and you should also look up the definition of 'discussion' and 'lecture' because while discussions are fun lectures are only ever aggravating.

Who me, snark? Never. *rolls eyes*

We ended up going back to their place and playing some kind of card RPG called Super Munchkins. I've never been able to get into RPGs, the combination of pretending and rolling dice never really works for me. Maybe it's the dice part, makes it too much like a board game (I so suck at board games).

So, yeah, pretty good day.

We will not discuss the abysmal showing by the U-MI football team on Saturday. I am in a deep state of denial because my team is not supposed to suck this much.

Had stake choir practice last night. I apparently carried the soprano section. *basks in lukewarm praise* No wonder I sang my voice out last night. It was a lot of fun.

Now, weekend TV viewing:

Supernatural )

Lost )

Rome )

Huh, this post makes my weekend seem more involved then it actually was. Well, good for it.

It's been a weekend. Not too terribly much happened but I feel obligated to discuss, nonetheless.

Made a mistake and saw The Exorcism of Emily Rose on Friday with the Big Lug and some of his friends. The movie freaked me out so badly that I slept on my couch on Friday and Saturday nights with all of the lights in my apartment on and the tv providing some background noise. Thankfully, last night I was able to sleep in my own bed and even turned the bedside lamp off.

LSAT class was fun on Saturday and by fun I mean dull because we were going over the two things that I kick ass at. However, the instructor flirted with me which was entertaining. Shame the course isn't graded. Just goes to show, the one time I get hit on by an instructor it's when I'll get absolutely nothing else out of it. Though it does nicely bolster le ego.

Now for some weekend TV talk:

The Emmys )

Lost )

Rome )

Supernatural )

And, just so you know, I adore Justice League and Saturday's new episode was great for many reasons, including the fact that it reminded me of this story by [livejournal.com profile] hackthis.

It might just be a decent week, all things told.

Word Origin of the Day: Recipe - "Receive," "receipt," and "recipe" have a similar background, all variations of the Latin verb recipere, meaning "to take" or "to receive." "Recipe" arrived in English in the 1300s but in its original use, meant about the same as "receive." In the 1500s, this use evolved, now referring to instructions about or formulas for medicine. The current meaning pertaining to food arose in the 1700s.

Ugh. What a strange weekend. Not in the 'a lot of stuff happened' sort of way but more in the 'emotional rollercoaster (I'm a big ol' manic-depressive)' sort of way. I really need to stop telling myself I suck, it's not terribly productive.

Was able to leave work on Friday to help with some Hurricane relief. Went over to the church and sorted donations and filled up food boxes for survivors moving into the area. It was good, hard work. Later that night there was much unloading of food from semis and loading of food onto semis but I had already left by then. I left that to the young men who had come in fresh after school/work and who hadn't been lugging around boxes of canned food all day.

However, had diet schedule thrown off for the day. Because I am easily swayed I talked myself into getting an ice cream sundae at this parlor that has been taunting me every day that I go to the LSAT prep course. I got a junior sundae that was still huger then huge. It was two scoops of ice cream in a cream puff, smothered in hot fudge. It turned out to be some kind of leaning tower of ice cream. Very yummy and completely un-finishable by your's truly.

Unfortunately, went back on the diet the very next day. Am thankfully not as generally hungry as I was before. Am possibly still living off of residual sugar. mmmmmmmmm

Rome was very good last night. It's all so ... Roman and wonderful. The characters are oodles of fun and while the pace can sometimes be a titch slow there's more then enough political and/or character goodness to make my brain happy.

Re-watched more Lost. Am now through 1.08 ('Confidence Man' [Sawyer ep.]). Some Blather )

Another LSAT prep test tonight. Oh joy, oh rapture.

Word Origin of the Day: Cartoon - The root work in Italian was carta, meaning "paper." In its original use, a "cartoon" was "any drawing made on paper." In French, this was carton before arriving in English as "cartoon." In the 1600s, the meaning had narrowed to refer to "a type of drawing - a sketch - done in preparation for a painting." During the 1800s, the modern meaning emerged from the magazine and newapaper industry.

Spent a mostly empty weekend recovering. Helped the Big Lug move from one house to another on Monday. Also had some barbecue with the folks.

Have started watching Lost season one tapes (don't have money for dvds) because the new season is coming and I want to have all of the details fresh in my mind. Have watched the Pilot and Tabula Rasa (Kate's 1st episode). It's a much more balanced viewing on my part, now that I know who the characters are and what's coming up. Still very impressed with everything that's going on.

Wow it's hot in the office today. It's pleasant outside and a hot house in here. Bastards.

Just finished working on some LSAT prep course problems. Wow, way to make me feel stupider then ever. I think I'll take a stand and say logic problems are evil. But, have to raise that score by 15 points so along I plod.

Rome was good last night. The politics are getting nice and juicy. All the ins and outs and Caesar deserves to win because he's obviously the better politician. I like the way they've set the show up to show the different Roman classes, very fascinating stuff. My kinks are being shamelessly exploited and I don't care.

For those on BoB watch, Rick Warden hasn't shown up yet. Strangely enough, the Baron Harkonnen insists on making an appearance at least once an episode. Seems he went from attempting to destroy House Atreides to reading the news on the streetcorner for the Roman proletariat. Hey, a job's a job.

Have started a diet. Need to take off some weight and with all the getting sick drama have only put more on. I focus better when I have an exact plan to follow. *fingers crossed*

Have heard that John Roberts is now being nominated for Chief Justice. Doesn't that go against tradition? I thought that the office would go to someone who has actual experience on the Court. But, then again, GW thought Michael Brown would make an effective head of FEMA so what do I know.

Happy Monday, all. Is it possible for a Monday morning to truly be happy when it brings a week of wage slavery? Are we doomed to forever be caught in a perniscious cycle of freedom and bondage?

Dude, way too deep for a Monday morning.

I have gone past the 'I am vaguely amused by this huge motherfucker of a hurricane that is about to hit New Orleans' stage to the 'The nice person on NPR just said that New Orleans may never be the same and I've never been there but *SOB!*' stage. It's horrible. Thoughts, prayers and if anyone needs a place to crash and is willing to come hundreds of miles north my couch is pretty dang comfortable and my bathroom is clean.

Started reading the Weather Warden trilogy by Rachel Caine (who is also [livejournal.com profile] rachelcaine and, yes, I did pick up the first book because I had seen her on a friend of a friends list. LJ is viral). It's a strange serendipity to go from reading a book about storms to seeing a huge one on tv.

Watched insane amounts of television last night. Rome was awesome. It hasn't kicked me in the gut yet but it's always nice to see a show slowly and carefully building up characters and plots. It's all nice and chewy. I will have to mull everything over and get back to you. Very satisfying.

Entourage was very good, as well. Best episode of the season. Ari Gold can by my Super Agent of the Universe any day.

OMG! Narnia pictures! Look at the Pevensies! They're so wee! These pictures make me want to have lots of adorable little children of my own. So Precious!

Ooo! Ooo! Looky! Dom's movie The Purifiers releases on dvd in the States tomorrow! I've already got it all queued up. Now two sides of my OCD are waging war because on the one hand DOM! and on the other hand the list must not be changed, everything must come in its appointed order. The Crazy begins.

Lots of love to you all. Especially to any in the face of an unforgiving Category 4 hurricane and to those may physically be far away but whose lives feel buffeted and tossed around.

I'm feeling a bit down today. It's hard to come back down to life, you know? Just one of those days where it would be nice if the whole world just went away. Please.

Everyone's congregating in my office to use the printer/copier/fax monster and it'd be nice if they weren't here. I've never been a big fan of people lurking behind my back.

Look at little antisocial me. Oy, sometimes I'm so bloody dramatic.

My hand feels bruised. It doesn't look bruised but I did hit it with a hatchet last weekend and I suppose there would have to be some sort of injury.

I'm uber-excited for the Rome series coming to HBO. Like crazy, fannishly, bouncing in my seat excited. The show page is very pretty and I know all of the AW's on the flist will want to take a look at this. Come on, I know you wanna. *sticks out tongue*

Somedays you just want someone to curl up with. Someone to rub your back and tell you that things aren't nearly as bad as you think they are.
