And, yet, even though people are jerks I'm constantly reminded that there is still good in the world, Mr. Frodo. Yes, even in the cyberworld.

Because, you know what? I've made some of the best friends I've ever had because of fandom. They enrich my lives every single day. Heck, I just got off the phone with [livejournal.com profile] baylorsr because she just had to ask me why, if Manticore was so awesome, they didn't put any trackers in its super-soldiers? The question had been plaguing her for hours. She also told me that she's half-way through with Twilight and she thinks Edward should just go ahead and eat Bella.

We had a good laugh, it was fun. ;-) And that's only one example of all of the awesome things that have happened to me because of fandom and not inspite of it.

Like, for another example, there was the time that [livejournal.com profile] hiyacynth came down to help me move into my current apartment and we mainlined season one of The O.C.. When the Baylor Sisters showed up we were bawling our eyes out at the season finale and they mocked us mercilessly. But they got theirs when they watched the season and were crying their eyes out when the season finale rolled around. They called [livejournal.com profile] hiyacynth in tears and both begged her forgiveness and yelled at her for "making" them watch it.

It was a beautiful moment of vindication. =D

So, why don't you all tell me about one (or more) of your favorite fandom memories. It can be cyber or RL, funny or meaningful. Let's remind ourselves of why we're here in the first place and how spectacular it really is.

Welcome to a new work week. And welcome to increasingly uncomfortable temperatures in the great state of Michigan. However, the high temperatures make the prospect of camping at the end of the week that much more delightful.

You know, this is going to be an awfully long week.

My favorite coworker called in today. That was fun. She's been out for the past three weeks because she was puking and then she was admitted to the hospital and then they had to do surgery because they thought she had an abcess on her colon but really her appendix had burst. It was good to hear from her and good to know that she's doing well. Moral of this story? When you're puking for more then two days go to the doctor because something is obviously wrong with you. Please don't wait for a week and only go in because you're so dehydrated that your organs are starting to shut down. Seriously.

Okay, yeah, that was a little gross. One more piece of advice. If at a picnic and they're serving free hamburgers made from pre-packaged frozen patties, please, for the love of all that's good and gastrointestinal, please do not eat them. No amount of ketchup and mustard can make them anywhere approaching good.

And I have officially grossed you all out. My work here is done. =D

That's right! I forgot that I wanted to mention that I finally found out what happened to my old security blanket (aka blanky). I've been curious for years why blanky disappeared at some point in my late childhood/early adolescence. I assumed that it had disappeared as things seem to do in my parents' household if you take your eyes off them for more then a month (for example: my old cabbage patch kids). Come to find out, the Da threw it away years ago. I'm rather amused. See, this is why none of us let him touch our stuff. ;-)

For those of you who are the camping type; what is your favorite thing to make/eat when camping? S'mores don't count, they're a given.

FYI: Seriously guys, if you want a postcard, let me know. I love sending people mail. It makes me happy.

Just got back from taking an illicit mid-afternoon walk on the riverwalk. Sssssshh, don't tell my bosses;-).

Days like this strongly remind me of my childhood. Hours spent lolling around in a sun-dappled backyard, water fights with my brothers and the boys across the street, long ago morning swims at the cottage, books read during hot, lazy afternoons while a soft breeze blows in and around the tent. There's a quiet place down by the river where I love to go on days like this. I'll take a book and listen to the water gurggle by and the tree branches groan in the wind. I'll sit there and let myself be filled up with every sight and sound and scent and emotion.

[livejournal.com profile] cunien and [livejournal.com profile] writerj have been proliferating a meme that has left me with a strange bittersweet feeling. How could I not continue the trend by answering it for myself?

"What great countries have you been to, and where and what is on your list of places to go/things to see before you die?"

WTF!!! This is not snow, this is a neverending pool of slush!!! Snow I can deal with, snow I'm prepared for, heck, I was even looking forward to a couple inches of the white stuff, not a freaking smattering over a semi-frozen soup that is covering everything! Getting to the office this morning wasn't hazardous in the 'drive very slowly the roads are slick' sort of way but rather in the 'I have to walk two blocks from the parking structure in this crap!' sort of way. I hereby lodge a formal protest with Mother Nature, stuff like this just isn't cool. Snow is okay, snow is preferable, snow I like. That's it, no Christmas card for that Nature bitch.

At least I didn't have to go to the other office today. I can only imagine that freeway driving would be twice as aggravating what with all of the people who would be driving 35 freaking mph.

Speaking of the other office, tried a new coffee house down there the other day. Walked in and was hit by the strongest scent of marijuana I've smelled since my college dorm. Ordered a hot chocolate and discovered that it tasted more like hashish then it did like chocolate. *sigh* It made me a little homesick for Ann Arbor.

I have a headache. Stupid weather and it's stupid ability to make my sinuses pound against the inside of my skull. I will have to go in search of drugs and caffeine in order to thwart its evil ways.

I filled out my very first life insurance policy yesterday. You know you're really an adult when you have to decide who would get all of that money in the event of your death. Now if I'm stranded on a desert island and everyone thinks I'm dead then at least my family will get a little something out of my mysterious disappearance.

They're giving away apples in front of the office building today. Another thing I love about Michigan in the fall, all the apples a girl could possibly eat. They're also giving away coupons for a huge, insanely sweet drink from the coffee shop. That sounds really good at the moment.

So brain dead. My poor, dear brain, it's served me so well for so long. I'll miss it. *sob*

The morning has dawned fair and bright, a fitting memorial to one of the most influential days in hobbit history.

I, like Bilbo and Frodo, am having an outrageous case of wanderlust today. The world is just such an interesting place and there is so much to see and do. It wouldn't be the anniversery of the Baggins' Birthday if one was not infected with an unhobbit-like desire to go forth and see faraway lands and travel through dangerous and exciting territory.

Adventures would, of course, be better if cheesecake were summarily provided to all eager adventurers, but the lack of cake of any kind will not slacken my willing feet.

May everyone's day be fair and delightful. Happy Hobbit Hugs for all!

Quite the storm this evening. It was very cool, what with the thunder and the lightning and the heavy wind and the rain. The power went out, but only for a moment. The best part was watching the storm come in, hearing the thunder in the distance hours before the clouds could be seen, watching the lightning chase through the sky while the clouds loomed above, ready to release the rain at any moment. I love a storm like that, there's just something so thrilling about it.

Been catching up on some old primetime TV during the mornings when I don't have to be at work. I have discovered that I actually do enjoy ER, as I've been seeing two re-runs a morning, twice a week. I've also been watching Judging Amy, but that's not nearly as good. The funny thing is, that the more of these shows I watch, the more I see actors turn up in the most interesting situations. I saw Sam Jones III (Pete from Smallville) on Judging Amy the other day (he was a defendant in a murder trial) and I saw Vincent Kartheiser (Connor from Angel) on ER today as an artist who had ingested paint. It was most humorous, and my reaction each time was definitely out of proportion to the situation (I think I remember jumping off of the couch and shrieking 'Pete!' and 'Connor!' each time;-). It's a good thing no one was around;-).

It's been interesting to watch the Big Lug deal with his first girlfriend. They had their first date on Saturday and Sunday they hung out all evening, Monday he went to Ann Arbor to visit with her (and, met her family) and tonight they've been on the phone talking to each other for hours (they're still on the phone). I haven't seen them together yet, so I can't say if they're a cute couple. I can say I'm starting to feel nostalgic thinking about the fact that someday my brothers will get married and we'll no longer be quite the same as we used to be. *sigh*

*snort* Melodramatic, much?;-) My nostalgia is getting beaten to a pulp by the snark rifling through my soul. I want to give him so.much.grief. There are so many snide comments to make, it's a shame he's so prickly about the whole situation. He tiptoes around it so much, it's like he's the girl in the house, what with the running out to the car and sneaking down to Ann Arbor. *eyeroll* Too.hillarious.for.words.:-D

My brain is mushy and it's officially too late for good little girls to be out of bed. Think I'll go watch some TV ...
