Good day, f-list!

I have returned from hiyacynth's wedding which was beautiful and wonderful and made me cry. *happy sigh* There's just nothing like celebrating two wonderful people who are so in love and so happy together. It was all just made of win.

And, bonus, I was not involved in the planning, preparation, or actualization in anyway, shape, or form so I got to sit back and let the good times roll. And roll they did, indeed.

In other news, I have finals this weekend. And I'm annoyed because studying for those is cutting into Big Bang writing time (as in, I've strictly imposed a Big Bang Writing Ban on myself until finals are over). As you can see, my priorities are exactly where they should be. Since law school is only the rest of my life, but fandom is forever. ;-)

Speaking of, saw Show last week. My only two comments are ( spoilers )

Also, I would like to point you all towards this meta which is an interesting analysis of Show's female representations and the deconstruction of the uber-masculine heroic ideal that is so prevelent in American media. I will say that never before have I seen a show where one of the two heroes is so strongly portrayed as suffering from PTSD and clinical depression. Generally male heroes are not allowed those kinds of [girly] illnesses, and yet here is Dean, trying to cope with them both.

That's why I love fandom, because there are so many smart people who say smart things, and people can actually discuss differing points of view and media interpretations without calling for the torches and pitchforks.

Okay, I should really go study. If I can't let myself go golfing I also can't spend all day puttering around on LJ, no matter how much I want to. Studying, yeah, I can do that. Sure.

This weekend I went to a U-Michigan/Eastern Michigan football game. It was a gorgeous day and a great day to be sitting in Michigan Stadium with the family (minus the Big Lug) watching guys tackle each other. Plus, the Wrestler's girlfriend is in the UM Marching Band so I got to take movies of the band and smile like the proud older sister I am.

The day was capped off by dinner at Applebee's with the Wrestler and his girlfriend at the end of which they announced that they're getting married at the end of February. OMG IT'S SO AWESOME MY MIND IS BREAKING!!!! I clapped and cheered and even got a little teary-eyed at the table. I'm so happy for them. So so so SO HAPPY that every time I think about it I want to jump around in a circle clapping my hands.

FYI: From here on out the Wrestler's girlfriend will be known as the Philosopher (because she's a philosophy major). I wrote her a really sappy email on Saturday night for which I'm pretty sure I can be forgiven, seeing as someone needs to make a fuss over the two of them. You see, my mom, who I usually rely on to make a fuss over these things is Not Amused At All. She's actually really fucking pissed off. The Wrestler not only had the gall to think for himself and love someone of his own choosing but he also had the temerity to fall in love with a black girl.

Currently the Mum is in Virginia reveling in hatred with the Big Lug (who also doesn't like the Philosopher for extremely similar reasons). I'm giving them both a week to get it out of their systems and if they don't I intend to make it perfectly clear that I won't allow them to divide me from my brother. I've already told baylorsr that if my mother and brother continue to act like fucktards then I'll be bringing the Wrestler and the Philosopher to the Baylor Family Thanksgiving. There's a lot of Baylors, three more people would hardly be a drop in the pool.

But, whatever, all that matters is that MY BROTHER IS GETTING MARRIED! OMG, you guys, it's like I said to the Philosopher on Saturday, seeing how much they love each other makes my cynical, old heart grow exponentially. With this and hiyacynth's wedding in April, 2010 might just be kind of awesome. YAYZ! *dances around flinging confetti*
