Yesterday was a day of signs and portents. Went to the bookstore before the big salon appointment to get a magazine to read during the hair dying. The mall speakers were playing Scott Grimes' 'Sunset Boulevard' and I freaked out (BTW, freaking out in the middle of a bookstore gets you some weird looks, just so you know). Then I bought the latest edition of 'Premiere' magazine which not only had the awesomest Batman Begins article ever but also ranked Peter Jackson at the top of the 50 Most Powerful People in Hollywood list. I took all of this as very good signs that the dye job would go well.

And it did! My hair looks so different! It's very close to my own hair color but with a little added red and no grey. I am exceptionally pleased.

While I was in the salon it started storming and I'm not sure what kind of a portent that was though it sounded extremely portentous. Big claps of thunder and jagged slashes of lightning cutting through the sky.

Finally, a fic/author recommendation. About three years ago I started seriously searching the internet for Buffy the Vampire Slayer fic. In my search I found a new story over at FF.net that had been posted by a new author in the fandom, one [livejournal.com profile] liz_marcs. I was so enthralled and entranced by it that I even missed class one day just so I could be there when the new part was put up. After that I started noticing her work in various newsgroups that I was lurking in and each and every story that I read was as good or better then the first one.

Liz has continued to produce work of the highest quality. Take for instance, her latest story, Water Hold Me Down. I came in to work today and my reaction to the latest chapter was to literally say, "You're breaking my heart." Considering that I wanted to slap George Lucas for making Natalie Portman say that phrase in Ep. III you can understand how deeply affected I was. Her grasp of character, plot and story is first rate. I can't praise or recommend her work highly enough.

She has gathered her work in her LJ memories over here. I would suggest starting with Whisper and moving on from there. Go forth and read!

Ooh, Buffy fic! Haven't read any in years. Though about 3 years ago I was quite active in that fandom. Have you, in your lurking, discovered the Better Buffy Fics archives? It was the archive of the recs mailing list. They didn't archive anything that hadn't been rec'd by people with pretty serious standards. I can show you the way if you don't know it already.

I, of course, have never, ever written any Buffy fic, and none of it is archived over there.

Glad your hair turned out so well. As a fellow early-to-gray girl, I am completely on board the color train. Go you!

I love good Buffy fic. I actually went through the Better Buffy fic archives a few years ago. I should go back, they've probably added some great stuff since I was last there. I was a little too focused on Xander fic when I was there, anyway, and probably missed out on some good work.

Hair color is our friend. =D

Glad you like the new hairstyle :-)

Did you get highlights or anything, or just a straight colour

Thank you!

It's a straight dark brownish color but with some red mixed in so that it picks up the light and has some depth. It's a lot of fun.

Why thank you! *bows*

The Powers of the Vortex were very important in the successful outcome, I'm sure.
