This is the week when the major tv networks are announcing their fall line-ups so ya'll are going to be getting a lot of television info out of me. Here's some good news that I missed from NBC's announcement yesterday, premiering in the fall will be a comedy starring Jason Lee called My Name is Earl. It is scheduled on Tuesdays at 8PM. What geek doesn't love Jason Lee?

More good news, this time from ABC. Premiering midseason on Mondays at 10PM (after Monday Night Football ends) is a new drama called What About Brian that will co star Rick Gomez. The celebrations can now commence.

Two ABC shows that look interesting are Invasion and Kolchak. Invasion was created by Thomas Schlamme (of West Wing fame) and has as its premise that all of the natural disasters of recent years are being caused by the aliens that are already amongst us. Kolchak is Nightstalker by any other name, will star Stuart Townsend and is produced by Frank Spotnitz (of The X-Files). Will I watch them? Who knows but they do, at least, look semi-promising.

And, as if there was any doubt, Lost has been renewed for a second season but its time has been moved. It will now be airing on Wednesdays at 9PM.

I will leave you with the Word Origin of the Day: Grenade - THe shape of this hand-held weapon is responsible for its name. It was coined in French as a shortened version of the word pomegranate, a fruit with a grenade-like shape.

Interesting! I've been curious to see Stuart Townsend ever since he lost out to Viggo for Aragorn. (Goodness, I remember the original Kolchak! I must be getting old...)

I remember Chris Carter saying a couple few times how Night Stalker was a big creative influence for him. It's interesting, though, that Frank Spotnitz is the one involved in the remake and Chris Carter's name is nowhere to be found. Me thinks he's become a persona non grata, though that could be my bitterness poking through. ;-)

It surprises me to see Stuart Townsend involved in a television show but his connection to Viggo and LotR certainly has me extra intrigued about the show as a whole.

My Word Origin a Day desk calendar tells me all sorts of interesting things. Language is a fascinating, crazy thing.

And CBS hasn't announced the schedule for their fall season yet. I will tell you about Numb3rs status as soon as I know myself.

Aaaah, that is something I cannot answer. I'm not even sure where to begin looking for that kind of information or who decides what is picked up in the UK and what isn't.

Please excuse my horrible Ameri-centricism.

We must rejoice and offer sacrifices at the altars of the TV gods. Or perhaps something just as celebratory but less blasphemous. =D

Wednesday at nine works so much better for me with "Lost". Thank you, whoever made that decision! :)

The people at ABC are obviously benevolent and wise. Or something like that. ;-)

But then how does that explain the German potato mashers?

This also confused me at first. But, then I realized that the term 'potato mashers' was coined by soldiers because the grenades looked like the kitchen implement used to, get this, mash potatoes.

I love how the miliatry people are all upfront and practical about things like that. You just know that if some artsy fartsy intellectual types had been asked to come up with a slang term for german grenades it would have been something terribly snooty and pretentious and probably in Latin. =D
