I am a pizza thief. I was so hungry this morning that I went and ate a slice of pizza that didn't belong to me. Hey! It was in the communal fridge, which, by its very definition, is communal. For the sake of posterity I must remember to go to the grocery store or else whole legions of pizza thieves will arise to denude the world of delicious italian-american food.

Have been watching the Return of the King:Extended Edition for two evenings straight. It is more wonderful then I ever imagined. There are so many good things that have been in, there are so many wonderful little moments that I am overjoyed to see. And, oh man, the appendices. I've only started to scratch the surface of all of that wonderful information and I am already drowning in Middle-earth goodness.

Strangely enough, I'm also a little melancholy. With this release there is no more Middle-earth to anticipate. Sure Peter Jackson is making more movies and all of the actors are appearing all over the place but it's just not the same. This is it, no more anticipation, no more breathless excitement, just no more. Thankfully the movies will always be there in pristine format to be enjoyed again and again and again. And someday I hope to have the chance to go to New Zealand and experience the land that allowed such a dream to become reality.

No story has a definitive ending. They live on not only in the people who lived them but also in the way lives have changed because of them. The great stories speak to us on fundamental levels and we are enriched because of them.

I'm also suffering from LOTR melancholia. I've been jumping all around in it (got through Disc 2 of the Apps, much of Disc 1, the EE itself, and the first disc of the actor commentary--I was moping over my psychosomatic brain tumor yesterday, so shoot me) and am loving it. But I'm still vaguely disappointed that a) LOTR is over, and b) the EE isn't blowing me away the way FOTR EE did. That first explosive OMG I can't believe they're showing us all this!@!! will never be matched for me. It was like discovering a whole 'nother world underneath the whole 'nother world, you know? :-)

It isn't the same. It's still good, mind you, but I don't feel the same kind of euphoria. I already miss them so much, and yet I'll always have them. I imagine this is what it would feel like to know that you could never again go back to Narnia.

And OMG!! I hate it when doctors tell me that everything that's wrong with me is all in my own head! I hope your numbness is less numb-like!

Yes, thank goodness for fanfic. It may not be exactly the same but oh is it a balming panacea.

I stole your pizza?! You stole my pizza! It was mine by right and you took it from me!

Perhaps I should just buy one of my very own ... What a novel idea.

I know! No more excitement. The "Cameras in Middle Earth" segment is so sad at the end! Sigh. :(

It was extremely sad! The post-production segment with the premiere in Wellington and the Oscars was even worse, though. When Viggo looked directly at the camera and wished everyone farewell I just wanted to cry. It really is the end of an age.

Hee, there are never enough Casablanca references in day-to-day life.

Thank goodness for fanfic, fandom and the books themselves. They are the balm for our sad and weary hearts.
