Mar. 24th, 2007 03:46 pmI wish I had never worked up my nerve to go into the comic book store because now I'm going to spend every cent I own in there. Dammit.
This is all to say that I picked up the first Sandman trade on Wednesday and loved it just as much as I've always thought I would. And there were so many other interesting looking books in there. Plus I hear Marvel did a whole Civil War series? I'm not a big Marvel fan but I would totally buy those because it's just the sort of crack that I can't avoid.
When the hell did I become Seth Cohen? *grumps*
baylorsr and I discussed it last night and we're not allowed to talk about the possibility that Supernatural will be cancelled because we'll end up sitting on the floor rocking back and forth. So if you want to save the both of us from insanity you must go over to Kristin's E!Online Save One Show poll and vote for Supernatural. Do it because you think the show deserves it or do it to preserve the mental health of fangirls like you but please, please, please vote. The network execs take this into consideration when they're making their decisions (as exemplified by One Tree Hill's survival last season).
One of the X-Files episodes we marathoned through last night was 'Die Hand Die Verlezt' and I think that was the first XF episode Kim Manners ever directed. That, of course, makes all the little homages in 'Scarecrow' that much more entertaining. Also, the evil!Aunt from 'Scarecrow' was one of the devil-worshipping teachers in 'Die Hand Die Verlezt.' I love Vancouver.
Apparently I'm watching a lot of second seasons at the moment (SPN, XF, BtVS). One of the things I've noticed is how much more pedestrian Buffy's direction is when compared to XF and SPN. Obvious SPN lucked out when a lot of the old XF talent came on board from the very beginning but it makes me wonder about Buffy. Was it just that Whedon didn't have the good fortune of knowing a great director when he began or was it because it was harder to find good talent at a reasonable price at that time in LA? Either way, it's only an interesting observation.
I think I will end with a quote:
"For if this Nation is to remain true to the ideals symbolized by its flag, it must not wield the tools of tyrants even to resist an assault by the forces of tyranny."
- Rumsfeld v. Padilla (dissent written by Justice Stevens and joined by Justices Souter, Ginsberg and Breyer)

Date: 2007-03-24 10:28 pm (UTC)Very looking forward to the Buffy comic, too!
Yeah, I was thinking about how good the direction on SPN generally is (though not necessarily in comparison to Buffy, but just in general). Watched "Nightmare," which... great direction. I also was maybe getting a little bit weepy over the idea of Manners directing Paddywack this week, knowing that there were at least two really challenging things for him--mega sex and angst--and thinking about what he said at Paley about helping Jensen through that scene in "Shadow" last season. I got all wooby. You know what's fun/funny to watch in terms of direction? Classic Trek. It's so very straightforward. Everyone's lined up to talk, no one moves, very little intercutting. You gotta know they booked through those shoots.
Go team me: My dishes put away and done and put away again, the floors have been swept and mopped, the bathroom is swept and tidied and the toilet and bathtub are soaking in scubbing bubbles. No more housework for me!

It's kinda neat to think of the maturation of television shows during our lifetime. I love how it's all about the full package now adays. (hee, package *is 12*)
Just thinking about Manners helping the boys through all of the big scenes fills me with love and renders me speechless. Man I love our show.
Civil War (with spoilers)
Date: 2007-03-25 01:41 pm (UTC)... You say it like it's a bad thing to sound like Seth Cohen.

Date: 2007-03-26 08:20 pm (UTC)And no, it's absolutely not a bad thing to sound like Seth Cohen. I love Cohen to itty bitty pieces it's just, I'm not him (sadly enough, I'm not anyone on The O.C. which so totally leaves me out in the Newport cold when compared with the rest of ya'll) and now I'm all addicted and fighting futilely at something that's been inevitable my entire life.
Fighting my inner nature makes me cranky, I should just give up any delusions of coolness I might have had. ;-)

You could always be Marissa. /runs away from doom

Date: 2007-03-27 10:11 pm (UTC)HA! Marissa or Taylor?! *cracks up* The very idea is hilarious. Maybe Lindsay, I liked her. Sadly, the closest I come is Sandy's ex-girlfriend and since she ended up being uber-annoying and almost breaking up Sandy and Kirstin I think I'll pass on that one.
