And to All a Good Night

Today was officially the quietest Christmas of my life. The presents were modest, but fun. Okay, so the little PDA I got wasn't exactly modest, but it was about all I got;-). Definitely no complaints, as I've gotten older I've come to realize that it really isn't about the presents but rather about family and being together and celebrating the most important things in life. When I was a kid there Christmas had a kind of magic to it and I kind of miss that wide-eyed excitement I felt every Christmas morning, but now that I'm a little more grown I've found new magic, a more lasting kind then even Santa Claus could bring.

The frustration of the day came from trying to make a bunch of international phone calls. I can only talk to the brothers on Christmas and Mother's Day, so I'm sure you can imagine how much I wanted to talk with them. Of course, all of the circuits were busy, we had a mix-up in the timing schedule so the brother in Chile felt a little bereft when I told him I had to call him back because we were in the middle of talking to the brother in Brazil. It was so wonderful to talk to them, though. I love those guys.

I just finished shoveling the snow. It was kind of fun, and the peaceful silence of a snowy evening is priceless.

Oh come now, we all know it's about the presents!!! ;)

We also had a wonderful holiday! Spent some quality time with each person in our families, not just a quick hello but actually spent some time with people. We got the Trivial Pursuit Pop Culture game and have already played it twice. Something tells me I'll need the expansion DVD as soon as it comes out. :)

Sounds like you all had quite a day! You had both family and fun and games. Yay! Keep on enjoying that Trivial Pursuit. Best. Board game. Ever.

Another Xmas...

Hi! It's me, Heather! Yup, I am alive and well, technically speaking... Christmas was allright. We followed our family tradition of opening everything Christmas Eve after a traditional "German" dinner (knockwurst, natural casing hot dogs, sauerkraut, Hot German Potato Salad, Sandwiches, cheese and crackers, cocktail shrimp, etc.) My brother and sister even cleaned the living room, THOROUGHLY, and my brother re-wired the entire entertainment center, per my dad's request. So now everything works, even the record player!

And I even got both of the big things I wanted, a cedar chest and a bagless vacuum cleaner, in addition to a few other things... But after all the anticipation was over, I don't know... I was happy, but strangely disappointed, or maybe restless... Yes, I think that's it. We spent the remainder of our holiday watching DVDs and videos. And I brought a book to read, but compared to what I have read in the past couple months, it's a little less compelling.

My mom brought my dad out from his bed (he's pretty much not allowed to leave the bed), and let him sit in the lazy boys or in his wheelchair at the table. And it was good for him I think, to participate in a family tradition, but also sad because he needs so much help now with everything, and even his sitting up to be with us is detrimental to his health. He hardly ever says a word anymore anyway. To make it all worse, this was all somewhat the cause of my mom and my grandma's big argument a few days before Christmas... Sometimes, I REALLY can't stand my grandma...

I don't know, overall... it was nice to be with my whole immediate family again, even if we never went to my Grandma's as usual on Christmas Day... but it was sad, and I was restless and bored, and pretty much still am a few days later. Life sucks, and sometimes, I feel like I'm just getting too old and tired of it, and I'm only 24! HA!

Yay! Heather's posting in my lj! I'm glad you got everything you wanted and that your dad was able to participate in the festivities, even in a small way. It's a shame it was so bittersweet, though. Life never stops kicking us in the teeth, does it? So not fair.

I hope the New Year brings some better times with it.
