Sep. 8th, 2005 02:14 pmAm off to give blood tonight. Last try didn't work so well on account of low iron. I'm drinking my water and took an iron pill so here's hoping that they can pump some of that liquid life out of my veins.
According to my internet sources, two, count 'em two, movies with Damian Lewis in them are opening tomorrow: Keane and An Unfinished Life. It doesn't look like either of them is coming close to where I live. Keane sounds great. I was amused by one reviewer who was truly astounded by how well DL escapes into his roles. That is not news to a fangirl. Will definitely see Keane at some point, theater, dvd, whatever. An excerpt taken from a review by The New York Observer's Rex Reed.
"The previously noted Damian Lewis, who plays the heel in An Unfinished Life—proving again there’s no such thing as a small role of no significance when a big actor gives it his own special stamp—is again on view in the odd, disturbing psychological drama, Keane. This intense portrait of a tightly coiled man in crisis coming rapidly unraveled on every level is a bigger showcase for Mr. Lewis’ talent and range, which is vast. A British actor familiar to audiences at the Royal Shakespeare Company who can play Americans with no trace of an accent, Mr. Lewis has what looks like a bright future in American films."
Not so sure about An Unfinished Life. It stars Robert Redford and Morgan Freeman, which is good. It also stars Jennifer Lopez which is bad. He apparently plays the abusive boyfriend from which JLo is trying to escape. Dude, I saw The Forsyte Saga, I don't need to see anything like that again (scarred for life).
Yeah, anyway, not much going on today. Maybe I should go get another bottle of water.

Date: 2005-09-08 08:12 pm (UTC)Wow. An Unfinished Life is like the anti-Winters. That could be interesting...or disturbing.
FORSYTE! Wasn't he....something? After our first viewing my roommate and I spent days shouting "I've BOUGHT it!" at each other in the best Soames-imitations we could muster (the painting Irene liked).
Good luck with the vampires!

Date: 2005-09-08 08:36 pm (UTC)For some reason the fact that he does such a great accent makes him even more attractive to me. Not because he can sound like a yank (cause that's mostly boring) but that he's a good enough actor to pull it off. I love accents.
Dude, The Forsyte Saga was scarring. I mean, I was genetically predisposed to appreciate his character but the character was so evil that it gave me conniptions. I liked all of one character in that entire mini-series. Okay, 2, neither of whom were main characters. I have tried to erase the experience from my memory.
*glares at veins* You'd better bleed, dagnabbit.

Date: 2005-09-08 08:46 pm (UTC)See, I don't see Soames as all evil. It's like his mother says - he loves too much and doesn't know how to handle it. He's not good, but he's not all bad. It's like he doesn't quite understand the world or how to work in it. He tries, but it just doesn't work. Personally, I hated Irene. She seemed determined to keep herself as miserable as possible and ruin as many other people's lives as she could.
I'm sorry you're trying to erase it!
*giggles at you yelling at your veins*

Date: 2005-09-08 09:01 pm (UTC)Yeah, but he plays a HOT abusive boyfriend who, from what I saw in the trailer last night, wears a really tight gray t-shirt and gets rained on at least once.
I'm just sayin'.

Date: 2005-09-08 10:27 pm (UTC)I tried to give blood while I was at Dragon*Con, but it turns out that because I was in England for six months in 1992, I'm ineligible for giving blood. Go figure.
