Aug. 17th, 2005 12:02 pmI have 100 icons! Where did they come from? Wait, forget I asked, I don't care because I HAVE 100 ICONS! WHEEEEEE!!!!!1111!!
Sometimes life can be awfully funny. Like when your job is sucking but the internet fairy gifts you with 100 ways to express your fannish love. So, yeah, if anyone feels the need to make any West Wing icons that would make me happy. Or Firefly. I could use some from Firefly. =D
I want a Mr. Darcy. Can somebody please get me a Mr. Darcy? I'd be awfully good to him and let him jump into my apartment complex's pool as often as he so desires. I'd even watch. Yes, I'm just that giving. *snerk*
I didn't think this could happen. I know I've mentioned in the past that the father of my good friend
hlgraban has MS. He's in very poor condition and it was decided before he became too ill to communicate effectively that he didn't want any extraordinary means taken to prolong his life. Lately his family has been looking to place him in a home because care has simply become too difficult and they want to remove his feeding tube before doing so. Apparently his physician has caused quite a stir over the whole matter. He was morally opposed and at first refused to do it and then would only do so if a lawyer ordered him to and just last week cancelled the appointment they had to perform the procedure. Are doctor's really able to make those decisions? I was under the impression that if a patient made a choice such as this and had a living will then there was nothing the doctor could do contrary to the expressed wishes. The doctor's actions in this situation don't seem particularly kosher. Anyway, the whole story is here and here if you're interested. It all seems awfully strange to me.
Ooo, another interesting real life bit. I've recently heard a rumor that my friend Dan's boyfriend Ryan is going to be moving into my apartment complex. This is interesting because I'm pretty sure that I met Ryan over a year before he met Dan. We worked together at a bookstore and quit at the same time. I haven't officially met Dan's Ryan yet, but all the evidence leads me to believe that they're the same guy. This amuses me greatly.
Not much else is going on. Watched Ray on HBO last night. A good movie, well acted. Not a great movie but interesting and touching and inspirational in the end. Jamie Foxx certainly deserved his Oscar. I was entertained to discover that it serves as a kind of meeting point for three of my favorite fandoms: Jossverse, West Wing, and Band of Brothers (David Krumholtz, Richard Schiff and Rick Gomez). It's like I heard someone say the other day, Hollywood is a little village where everyone knows everyone else and they're insulated from the outside world. Kind of like the internet, but more fabulous. =D
Word Origin of the Day: Strafe - From military use during World War I, this word comes from the German verb strafen, meaning "to punish," and was used in this sense until World War II. During that war, the term was adopted as a label for a certain kind of low-level attack by an airplane.

Date: 2005-08-17 04:30 pm (UTC)I hear you on needing Firefly icons. I've been slowly making some - I'm up to two now. And I need to find something for West Wing already.
Re: your friend's dad. That's really sad. A family already going through the pain of knowing they'll lose a loved one should not be forced through the extra effort of pain in having to fight for his last wishes. Our country can be so funny sometimes - the same people who will fight against abortions and living wills like this will shrug their shoulders and keep supporting a death penalty that has been known to kill innocents.
Isn't Rick cute in Ray. I enjoyed the movie, but months later I mostly remember Rick being cute.
Interesting on Strafe. I'd heard the term, but never realized it evolved like that.

Date: 2005-08-17 04:41 pm (UTC)I would make more icons if only my photo-manip programs didn't suck so hard. I am more then happy to steal from everybody else. ;-)
Our country is very strange. So many people have this weird view of morality that can be kinda frustrating. It's like pharmacists who refuse to hand out birth control pills. It's all so fucked.
Rick was adorable in Ray. He's adorable in everything. *giggle* It would be hard not to love that boy.
Behold the power of the Word Origin calender. All shall love it and despair.

Date: 2005-08-17 05:05 pm (UTC)I know. Especially given that plenty of women take them for non-birth control reasons. Not just so they can have anti-christian evil sinly premarital crazy kinky sex.
I'm not sure if it's only going through legislation or already been passed, but Wisconsin is working on a pill to ban any contraceptive or mention of contraceptives on it's university campuses. Meaning RAs would be not allowed to talk about safe sex, hand out condoms, etc. The health center can't talk about safe sex or prescribe any sort of birth control, etc. Pisses me off rather a lot.
I don't think anyone doesn't love Rick.
