Jul. 19th, 2005 10:25 amLife is getting better. Work has, so far, been better then expected and I do not feel the need to run away and hide in a corner (or under the bed with
baylorsr's cats).
It was highly enjoyable. Spent Saturday at the Saline Celtic Festival. The remnants of Hurricane Dennis plagued us for the first hour or so. The rain just poured down and I eventually got hungry enough that we ran out into it, looking for some food. We got throughly soaked and ended up buying Irish stew in a bread bowl that was very, very good. It wasn't the pasty of years gone by but it sufficed and was much cheaper then the $8 fish and chips. Can you believe that price?! Highwayman, the lot of them.
Got some fun pictures of people in kilts and people tossing cabers and rain and border collie puppies and pipers. It was a lot of fun, rain included. My only regret is that I wasn't able to purchase a CD of the celtic music duo we saw. A piper and a fiddler and they were pretty damn good. I have pictures that I will probably post and also some .avi files. My digital camera records little movies, it's great. I just have to figure out how to put them up.
Sunday was spent at church and then lounging around at Fangirl Central, eating chippies and dippies, playing board games and watching Office Space and The Faculty. 'Twas extremely relaxing.
So, on Saturday I caught a glimpse of the newest Harry Potter book. I read three pages near the end at random and then had one of the biggest laughs of my life. [WARNING, SPOILERS ABOUT TO BE REVEALED, LEAVE NOW OR FOREVER HOLD YOUR PEACE]
I was heartily amused at Fleur and Bill getting together and Harry and Ginny and Snape killing Dumbledore. Okay, maybe not so much with the amused with the last one, more of a 'I don't believe he's a real traitor, they've spent too much time making him the unlikeable good guy to give it all up now.' Am also extremely amused by the reaction of the fan community. D00d, the HP fans are loud and boisterous and the wank flows free and swift. If I cared about any of the 'ships I might have something more to say, but really I'm mostly amused by how most "canon" gen-fic got it right. Though it is kind of strange how JKR has it set up that most people find their One True Loves in, for all intents and purposes, high school and that they stay together forever. That doesn't quite jive with my view of love and commitment and marriage but then I'm a single twenty-something who's never dated so I don't have a whole lot of first hand experience anyway. =D
blah blah blah, yadda yadda yadda Wouldn't it be cool if someone wrote a Lily and James didn't die story and instead of them being in love and having more little sprogs instead they ended up getting divorced? That would be really fascinating. I would read that story.
La la la, I think I want to eat my sandwich now. Early lunch is always fun.
Word Origin of the Day: G-String - This brief attire worn by strippers has an uncertain origin, but could have been inspired by a Native American term. Something called a geestring was linked with some Plains tribes, the namre for "a loincloth or breechcloth." In its modern application, it popped up in the 1930s in burlesque shows.
ETA: YAY! Wonka Cake! Life is good.

I'm really digging on this Harry Potter boy hero as a child of divorce thing you've got going on. Very current!

There are so many possibilities with a Harry Potter: Child of Divorce scenario! Lot's of fun interpersonal drama. I would also like to write up Hufflepuff sagas because no one ever does and the nice kids deserve some love, too!
