Just got back from taking an illicit mid-afternoon walk on the riverwalk. Sssssshh, don't tell my bosses;-).

Days like this strongly remind me of my childhood. Hours spent lolling around in a sun-dappled backyard, water fights with my brothers and the boys across the street, long ago morning swims at the cottage, books read during hot, lazy afternoons while a soft breeze blows in and around the tent. There's a quiet place down by the river where I love to go on days like this. I'll take a book and listen to the water gurggle by and the tree branches groan in the wind. I'll sit there and let myself be filled up with every sight and sound and scent and emotion.

Sigh. I'm all nostalgic for summer at the neighborhood pool, and for days on end spent adventuring with Brian and Franklin in the hills behind our house.

Now I'm reminiscing about the first spring days when I was in college. All of the students would lay out on every available piece of lawn around campus. Classes would be held outside, impromptu musical groups would gather on the Diag, people would smile and laugh and the hippies would finally have a reason to be wearing the shorts and sandals they'd been wearing all winter anyway.

The summers of childhood. *sigh* When you could spend a whole day outside and never, ever get bored.

It's days like this that make the Michigan winters almost worth living through. I wish it could be like this forever.
