Crazy Adventures in the Multiverse
Jan. 25th, 2005 02:45 pmSo, months and months ago I started writing this cracked-out little adventure that took me and two of my oldest friends and deposited us all in what I like to call The Fandom Multiverse.
Well, here it is, back by popular demand, another part of that insanity.
When last we left Our Heroines they had been transported to the Halls of Hogwarts and into the bodies of fourteen year-old girls. And Megan was puking in the corner, again.
Previous parts can be found here.
“So, Hogwarts.” Megan said, her voice echoing too loud in her own ears. There was an eerie stillness in the hallways that she hadn’t expected. Instead of reflecting noise the cold stone seemed to swallow it causing them all to feel alone and very small in the ancient castle.
The three newly made pre-adolescent girl exchanged glances, the same pole axed expression reflected in their faces. They had been running for their lives and dealing with strange, unprecedented situations since they woke up and the exhaustion was beginning to show in the weary slump of Heather’s shoulders, the manic gleam in Megan’s eyes and the slightly pinched look on Erin’s face.
“Are you absolutely certain that we’re not all still in college and having some sort of severe reaction to that awful East Quad food?” Erin asked a little too hopefully.
“It’s possible.” Megan replied
“It’s also possible that we’re all dead and now we’re damned to wander around from one imaginary story to another for the rest of eternity.” Heather posited darkly.
“How very Sisyphus of us.” Megan responded absently as she pulled a bag into her lap that had previously been slung around her shoulders. She started to mumble softly to herself as she dug through it.
“The black robes are certainly a new look for us.” Erin commented, picking at the fabric that was covering her knees. “I feel like I’m graduating all over again except these aren’t made out of that awful cheap polyester fabric.”
Heather’s eyes narrowed briefly in concentration as she studied the similar woolen fabric that was covering her own legs. “If we’re wearing robes then we’re probably in one of the houses …” She whipped her head up, her eyes widening. “Erin, do I have a badge on my chest?”
“Yeah, you do. It’s … I think you’re in Gryffindor.” Erin replied. “What about me? Are we in the same house?”
“No.” Heather replied slowly. “I’m not sure that I recognize your badge at all.”
“Hufflepuff. I’m probably in Hufflepuff.” Erin said with a tired sigh. “Of course I”m a Hufflepuff. Nice and hardworking, that’s me.
“Sweet!” Megan shouted, completely oblivious to what the other two had been talking about. “I have a wand!” With a grand gesture she pulled a dark, polished length of delicate wood out of the bag and flourished it above her head. It showered her in sparks as she grinned madly, a delighted look on her face.
“Wow.” Erin and Heather said at the same time, the vowel drawn out, they’re expressions awestruck.
“It really works.” Megan whispered. All three sets of eyes stared wide-eyed at the dark wood.
Heather gasped, breaking the reverent mood. She jerked her own bag up from the floor and started to wildly dig through it. Her actions were repeated with hardly a second’s hesitation by Erin. Nearly simultaneous shrieks sounded and two more wands were produced to shower sparks over the heads of all three girls.
“Can you believe this?” Heather asked, her voice low. She looked up from the wand grasped tightly in her hand to meet her friends’ eyes. They stared at each other, breathless, the consequences of having magic flashing through their minds.
Megan blinked, her eyes tracking from the wand in her hand to the faces before her. It all suddenly came crashing down on her, the whole absurd lot of it and before she knew what she was doing she had started giggling. It began low and quiet and tentative and before she knew it she was doubled over, a hand clasped over her mouth and her stomach clenched with the power of the laughter she was desperately trying to hold in.
“I think we broke Megan.” Erin whispered, amused and sheepish. Heather simply rolled her eyes and went back to experimenting with her wand, flicking and swishing and trying to remember any spell at all.
Megan’s laughter quieted and she leaned back against the stone wall, her eyes still shining with tears.
“We have to decide what we’re going to do next.” Erin declared, her voice solemn. She glanced sternly from Heather to Megan, the grim look on her face designed to silence any interruption. “We know we’re at Hogwarts, we know that we’re students that have been sorted into apparently separate houses and we can do magic.”
“So, what houses are we in?” Megan asked, her tone now completely serious.
“It looks like I’m in Gryffindor.” Heather replied. “And Erin thinks she’s in Hufflepuff, but I don’t think so. I’m pretty sure one of their colors is yellow.”
Megan focused on her friend’s robes for the first time. She leaned forward slightly, her eyes narrowing as she tilted her head to the left. “It looks like you’re in Ravenclaw.” she replied.
“And if I’m not mistaken it’s the Slytherins who go around with snakes on their badges.” Erin stated. “But why do you think I’m Ravenclaw?” she quickly asked as Megan’s eyes widened and her hand involuntarily reached up to grab the badge on the breast of her robe.
“Um, cause one of their, uh, colors is bronze.” Megan shrugged. “I kind of thought about knitting myself a Ravenclaw House scarf, once.” her eyes narrowed. “You know, this is all kind of random. Sure, you’re braver then most people I know, Heather and Erin, you’re definitely one smart cookie but I’m about as ambitious as one of the stones in the wall.”
“You are kind of evil, from a certain point of view.” Heather said, grinning.
“Please,” Megan replied, rolling her eyes. “If anyone were evil it would definitely be Erin.”
“Hey!” Erin yelped. “You two leave me out of this. I am definitely the least evil in this group.”
Megan and Heather shared and amused grin. “Oh really,” Megan teased. “What about that one time when you and Heather went up to ...”
“What is going on here?” A prissy, authoritative voice interrupted from behind them. All three girls started and instinctively jumped to their feet. They turned and saw a skinny redhead with a shiny badge pinned to the front of his robes. He stepped forward, his eyes narrowing. “It’s almost curfew and don’t think that just because you’re in my own house, Graban, that I won’t hesitate to take points away from you as well.”
On her right side Erin could feel Heather tense with righteous indignation and on her left side she could feel her robe swish as the tip of Megan's wand began to tap ominously against her leg. She grabbed their wrists as surreptitiously as possible and hurriedly responded before anyone else could say something she would probably come to regret. “We’re so sorry. If you’ll just give us a minute to say goodnight we’ll be right along.”
The boy frowned but nodded once, tightly. The girls quickly huddled together.
“Ten bucks that‘s Percy Weasley.” Megan growled.
“It probably is, but that doesn’t matter.” Erin quickly whispered. “Heather, you go with him, he’ll at least show you to wherever it is that Gryffindors sleep. We’ll meet up at breakfast tomorrow morning and try to figure things out from there. Deal?”
“Deal.” The other two agreed.
“Come along, Graban. We haven’t got all night.” Came the haughty demand from behind them.
“Just try not to kill him.” Megan whispered to the blonde with a grin.
“I’ll try.” Heather said through gritted teeth. With a glare directed at their new nemesis she grabbed up her bag and stalked towards the hallway.
“See you in the morning.” Megan whispered, picking up her own bag and with a grin that was intended to terrify she slipped by the pompous redhead and made her way towards the stairs.
Erin, suddenly left alone for the first time since the beginning of their strange adventure, sighed and stooped to get her own bag. She stepped out into the hallway and grimaced. “Where am I supposed to go now?” she asked the empty hallway.

Date: 2005-01-25 09:07 pm (UTC)You are officially the first Jim I've ever met who is not related to me in any way, shape or form. Hee.

Date: 2005-01-25 09:12 pm (UTC)Unless you're my long-lost sister who I've never met, and we'll end up kissing when the rebellion is slowly crumbling around us and then you hook up with my scoundrel smuggler friend and we later discover that you're my sister. Which is the mostly likely explanation..

Hm, so you haven't forgotten me! Was beginning to wonder if you even remembered I exist! Far far away in the land of... *gasp!* Ann Arbor...
But here's my question- what house, pray tell, are YOU in? Failed to mention that one... though there was all this joking and hinting about you being evil... which I could totally understand! You are a wolf in sheep's clothing, what with the hitting cripples with a staff, and keeping your own sword hidden from your mother, etc... Will you start talking in Parsel tongue soon I wonder? Hmmm...

Date: 2005-01-26 01:34 pm (UTC)Shoot, I wasn't clear about the house I put myself in, was I? That's what I hate about the parts that are full of a lot of talking, I always leave something out. I'm in Slytherin, which I'm sure you guessed from the 'evil' conversation;-). But no, no talking in Parsel tongue. I'll leave that particular talent to Harry.

Date: 2005-01-26 02:45 pm (UTC)yeah, you know, I'm a bit bored myself lately... but you should still try and email me sometime, when you're not busy with the other lj f-list people... there is always something to talk about... I mean, you can't seriously tell me when you're bored you just sit there staring at walls, thinking of nothing at all!
Speaking of bored... hmm... wonder what I can do...

Date: 2005-01-26 03:27 pm (UTC)I am sorry. If it makes you feel any better, I don't really email anyone. Since the majority of my day is spent in a vain effort to entertain myself with pretty things I just, I don't know, feel like I have all that much to really talk about. Especially considering how much of real, dire importance you have going on in your life. It's just, yeah, I'm not explaining this very well.
I do sit around, staring at my computer screen, thinking about how hot all the men from Band of Brothers are and shallow things like that. In some ways I think I've regressed to pre-adolescence;-).

I have eyes only for Weiss... what's his real name again? Greg something... *picturing him and giving a contented sigh* That's saying something, cause I rarely obsess over someone...
*snicker*
Date: 2005-01-27 01:53 am (UTC)i'm not so sure i like being left alone to wander the halls...that can lead to all sorts of trouble you know.
and i am not evil! *stomps foot in indignation* you just think i am :D
