Things I Learned Over the Weekend:

1. Band of Brothers cannot be watched straight through all in one day because 3AM will roll around and everyone will be so tired and drunk that they cannot get past the Lake Scene in the final episode. It will be rewound again and again and will be just as captivating each and every subsequent time.

2. Fandom ramblings at 5 o'clock in the morning are more captivating then they have any right being.

3. It is a truth, universally acknowledged, that when you are planning a weekend with friends and tell your family that you will be having a weekend with friends and will be unavailable the entire weekend that they (your family) will invariably call you every hour on the hour during said weekend.

4. There is no such thing as having too many fandoms.

5. (Corollary to #4) During any get-together with like-minded folk baylorsr will force everyone to watch either The Faculty or Pearl Harbor or some combination of the two.

6. hiyacynth's fascination with 'fandom pants' is slightly disturbing and yet strangely addicting.

7. Chocolat makes everything better.

8. I can psychically influence the programming at HBO as they showed The Cooler, a movie that stars Alec Baldwin, William H. Macy, Ron Livingston and Shawn Hatosy, last night, right when I needed it to help me overcome weekend withdrawl.

Wow, I learned a whole lot of stuff during a weekend spent inside watching dvds and looking at pretty, pretty things.

Fandom pants are love!

I got home last night, called my friend Jenn to recap the weekend, and she was totally offended when I called Pearl Harbor the worst movie ever made. I'm still hung up on the dyslexic joke at the end.

She was offended that you think Pearl Harbor is the most ass-tastic (in so many ways) movie ever made? That's very ... interesting.

And thanks so much, I had somehow managed to rub the memory of that horrible joke out of my head and you just had to go and bring it all crushing back!

However, all is forgiven by the wonderful use of the 'hand porn' icon. Mmmmmm, handporn

Jenn and I have very different tastes in movies. To the point that I don't think she'll ever go to another movie with me. I deconstructed The Notebook this summer and freaked her out quite a little bit.

Hand Porn icon is one of my favorites. Must upload Soapy, though, as he is now the official... OMG, I just realized that Soapy washed out of the paratroops but was almost immediately recruited into the RHAR. Imagine Easy's surprise, when they join up, that Private "Soapy" White is running the Airborne branch!

I understand. Unfortunately, not every movie viewer is as discriminating as those who are members of the RHAR. I have many friends who do not share my taste who I will, nonetheless, attempt to save once the End Times are upon us.

HEE! I can just see it now ...

Nixon (because he would totally be the one to bring it up after he and Winters share a very significant look): What is he doing here?

Random RHAR Member: Ummm, running the Airborne branch?

Nixon: You are aware that he was a complete wash out of the paratrooper program?

Member: Yeah, but he was here, and he was kind of a member of the company and he's kind of pretty and ... and, he's Soapy!

Nixon: Well that explains everything just perfectly. *gives sarcastic glare of death*

*Member wilts under stare*

Nixon: Hey, weren't you one of those Aldbourne girls?

I watched BoB once straight through. Did you know HBO here did a one-day marathon with the making of? Guh.

In my first blush with BoB fandom, back in 2002, I actually wrote an essay on the depiction of the WintersNix relationship in "Points". And posted it. On WildBillGuarnere.com. In front of Bill and Burr Smith's daughter and everybody.

It's quite an experience, isn't it? That much in one day is just overwhelming and I totally wish that HBO would do it again, right now.

OMG, that's ... that took some chutzpah. Wow. I'm amazed and chagrined just thinking about it.

Well I didn't say they were snogging! I pointed out that the job offer was presented very much as a proposal, and how the writers had bookended the entire series between these two fellows.

It wasn't as if Wild Bill himself was reading every post. He's got other things to do, being the rock star of the WW2 paratroopers.

Frankly if any of the real E Co. guys get mad at me I will gladly let them shoot me. It would be an honor. (Mr. Guarnere and Mr. Malarkey could still probably snap me in two. And all Major Winters would have to do is give me a Look.)

Oh, I completely understand. And it's true, it's not as if you were offering speculation on anything, just stating how the writers/directors set the series up. Frankly, it was an ingenius use of traditional narrative structure that is a big part of why the series turned out as well as it did.

It's just this fandom. I'm still new enough that I still have difficulties making the necessary separations between real and not-so-real in my own head.

Unfortunately, not all people are as blinded by the Powers of the Vortex (or the Zeke) as others of us are.

And I will never forgive them the dyslexic joke at the end, though the pretty way in which Zeke dies and the commentary during the bunk scene are almost enough to make me forget it.
