Did actually go to Grand Rapids on Friday. Didn't get home till 3AM, but that was all good. It's always interesting to be around Andrea. Ever since we went our separate ways after high school we haven't seen a whole lot of each other, and yet when we get back together things seem the same as they always were. She's still the musical theatre geek and I'm still the fandom geek and we still find ways of communicating with each other.

We did see Phantom of the Opera, which is appropriate as it is her fault that I ever heard it in the first place. It was ... shoot, I'll admit it, I loved it to pieces, but I was predisposed to loving it and all its over-the-top gothic melodrama. I'll talk about it more in a bit. It was just too scrumptious to believe.

Oh, and the power went out during the viewing. It was great! Very Opera Ghost. Plus we got free passes to go see another movie. I always love a free movie.

The weekend was generally unproductive. Stayed up all Saturday night reading Darwin's Radio by Greg Bear (great book) and late last night reading Saints by Orson Scott Card (another great book). Also caught the first episode of season two of Carnivale last night. Now I wish I had had the presence of mind to tape the first season so that I could send it to everyone I know who doesn't have HBO so that they too could revel in its greatness. For it is a truly great show.
