Entertainment Crack
Sep. 10th, 2004 11:04 amSo, I haven't done this in a really long time, but I was bored, sitting around, looking at movie sites and I thought, 'Hey! Remember that column thingy you did for about two weeks? Wouldn't it be fun to do that again?'. So, here for your viewing pleasure are a few of the more interesting movie/entertainment news gems that I've gleaned.
Did you all know that the fabulous people behind TORn have put together a website devoted to Peter Jackson's latest movie King Kong? Well, I didn't. After seeing the culmination of The Lord of the Rings trilogy I'm more then willing to follow PJ on whatever cinematic excursion he would like to take.

And, up on the site they have a welcome from the man himself. So cool!
It's being reported that Joss Whedon, the man behind Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel the Series and Firefly may just be the man to take over the X-Men franchise that Bryan Singer left behind. This could be very good news for the fans of both the comics and the movies as Whedon has shown that when he's good he's very, very good. For my money, I'd be interested to see where he went with this property.
Whedon Lands on the X?
Not only does Dominic Monaghan have a new tv series starting up this month, but he also has a movie coming out. TORn has images up from his new movie Spivs, as well as a brief plot synopsis. And yes, if I get excited about watching Hetty Wainthrop Investigates then you'd better believe that I'm going to find a way to see this movie.

One of my favorite film composers, Howard Shore, has just finished work on the score for Martin Scorsese's newest film The Aviator (starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Cate Blanchett and Kate Beckinsdale). Looks like I'm going to have to see this movie after all, Leo DiCaprio notwithstanding.

I love Alias and even though I hear the recent season was horrible, I'm still excited to have the chance to sit down and watch the DVDs when they come out. This also means that I'm extremely excited to hear that Angela Bassett will be guest-starring in episodes during the upcoming fourth season. Angela Bassett is one of my favorite working actresses, a woman of talent and taste and hearing that she'll be joining forces with Jack and Sydney Bristow makes me want to do backflips, seriously.

A few months ago I read the charming and disturbing young adult novel Coraline written by Neil Gaiman. I love all of Gaiman's work, and this was no exception and even though it is a book written for a younger audience it can and should be enjoyed by all readers. On that note, Mr. Gaiman has announced that Coraline will be adapted into an animated movie to be directed by Henry Selik, the same person who directed Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. Yes! One more good YA novel being turned into a movie! This is a very good trend in modern moviemaking.

Date: 2004-09-11 01:39 am (UTC)2. This is a yay and a 'oh no' for me. I mean Joss Whedon is great, and I LOVED Buffy, but at the same time I'm a huge fan of what Singer did on the X-Men films, and I just hope that Whedon is able to stay true to that style as well as his own, and doesn't change too much too quickly.
3. I didn't know about Spivs, cheers for the heads up
4. Have you considered starting your own website for this sort of thing, it might do quite well.
Re: Ranting and Raving
Date: 2004-09-11 09:45 am (UTC)2. Yeah, I'm torn for the same reasons. Both Singer and Whedon have let me down in some ways, Singer by leaving the X-Men franchise behind and Whedon in the way he ended BtVS. They're going to have to work to convert me.
3. No problem, that's my job;-).
4. I have contemplated a website but I kind of like the journal format. This way I can focus on things that interest me and my friends, plus, I just don't have enough time to put the kind of work into this that a good website would merit. Thanks for the compliment, though!
