Have spent the better part of the afternoon searching out graduate programs in history on the computer. The sudden interest was initiated because of the email I just sent to a professor, begging a letter of recommendation, an action that was spurred on by something that [livejournal.com profile] shirebound actually said yesterday (though what we were talking about had absolutely nothing to do with schooling in any way, shape or form;-). I'm in no hurry to get into graduate school and don't really want to start until Winter or Fall 2006, but the process was best started.

Am also plotting on how to ransom my pin and bumper sticker from [livejournal.com profile] baylorsr with minimal loss of innocent life. I fear for their safety in her hands.

Have also determined that I know very little about dating, which isn't surprising in the slightest.

oh my...

Oy, I'm being blackmailed on all sides lately;-). *put email Erin on to-do list*

I'm so lazy, it's nearly an embarrassment;-).

And thank you for you undying gratitude, it is much appreciated. *giggle*

Omigosh, what'd I say? I can't remember anything more than grinning happily every second we three were together.

And well you should.

*squee* You were so cute and excited. That's one of my favorite memories;-).

What you said ... you just mentioned how your mum used to say that people can only say no and thinking of that gave me the kick I needed to actually get with the asking. After all, the professor could only say no;-).

Oh I know, every time I think about second breakfast yesterday I still get a big grin on my face.

I'll see your Oy and Vey and raise you a Frell. I have to find a professor who remembers me well enough to write me a recommendation. I finished my undergrad program in '95 so ouch! that won't be so easy. I should really get on that, I suppose.

So did you find any programs that you like the look of?

Yeah, you're really in a Frell sort of situation. Though, I get the feeling (even though it is an unsubstantiated feeling) that most professors at large enough universities will give almost anyone a recommendation. Because, really? Most professors don't get to know many of their students at all. At least, this is what I'm hoping;-).

I've actually found a few programs. Northwestern and U-Penn are at the top of the list, along with Duke and Syracuse and Rutgers. Hmmm, maybe I should start looking at more public universities, just in case ...

Good Luck!

One little bit of luck for me, my sister's research advisor was also one of my professors junior year, and he keeps in touch with her. She told me this weekend that he remembers that she has a sister that was in the program, even if he doesn't remember me very specifically. So I think I might be able to get something from him. It really is hard when you've been out of school for a long time, though. It's good that you are working on it now, while you are still fresh in the records (if not the minds) of your professors :)

That is a hopeful break. Siblings can be useful, on occasion;-).

Oy, the things they make us go through just so we can pay them obscene amounts of money in the hopes of receiving a degree at some point. You know, I think they should be courting us, not putting us through these obnoxious hoops.
</ rant>

Sorry about that, got a bit worked up;-).

*dials phone*

Ahem, Mr. Boyd? Hi, I'm a big fan. How did I get your phone number? Ummmm, anyway, I'm calling because I need some help. I've received a ransom note and been informed that the only way to get my precious back is if you will eat ice cream with Baylor. What? You've heard of Baylor? That's wonderful! And, if you could convince Karl Urban to come along and speak in that russian accent he used in Bourne Supremacy that would be perfect.

What? Hello? Mr. Boyd? Did you hear me? Hellooo. Is anybody there? Billy? *dial tone*
