I watched Revolution last night and it was super-enjoyable. I know a lot of TV people are burned out on having yet another JJ Abrams (inspired or executed) Lost-style show but unlike all of those other shows (V, Flash Forward, Terra Nova, etc) I wasn't bored during the pilot and none of the characters inspired any knee jerk annoyance or loathing.

Okay, fine, I'll cut for spoilers.

Let's do this bullet point-style, shall we?

* The underlying mystery is intriguing but I'm not expecting the science to actually make, you know, any real logical sense. In that sense it's more fantasy than sci-fi so the whole "Electricity stopped working, and go!" premise is something I'm willing to buy, explanation or no.

*LOLOLOL I <3 you Eric Kripke. I can see his fingerprints all over this show and it fills me with glee. Bow hunting is an important skill! I'd give anything for a roll of Charmin! Take care of your brother! Find dad/mom! Tracy Spiridakos is no Jensen Ackles and Little Brother is more cutie-pie twink than actual actor, but whatevs. I am especially amused by the Bearded Guy with Glasses who is clearly Kripke's self insert. And it's adorable.

* Giancarlo Esposito is awesome. I wish the entire show was about him and hopefully we'll get more and more of him as the show goes on. If Supernatural showed us anything it's that Kripke can adapt a show to fit the cast and knows how to highlight great talent when he has it.

* It's a road trip across post-apocalyptic America! What's not to love about that? They were clearly trying to set Chicago up as a Deadwood-like town and I'm looking forward to seeing them explore their world some more. There's a whole lot of possibilities inherent in that setting.

This is the first major network pilot I've seen in a while where I'm actually kind of excited to see what happens next. Am I head-over-heels? Not yet, but the elements are all there and I have enough Kripke good will built up to give the show time to find its feet. I think there's a fun sci-fi adventure/mystery to be had in this show and if anyone knows how to make a TV show that tells a complete story without taking itself too seriously it's Eric Kripke.

And did you notice that the one piece of popular music in the entire pilot was AC/DC? It's like coming home.

In the wake of tonight being the premiere of 'that other show', this made me kind of teary-eyed. I agree with everything you said here in your bullet points (as you know because we talked about this last weekend) but you pointing out all the Kripke-esque things inherent in this has made me smile.

It could be a beautiful thing.

(I have ITunes on shuffle and Crash & Burn from The Middle Road soundtrack just popped up!)
