Jul. 15th, 2011 01:12 pmHi! I'm alive! Have had many adventures, including driving to Vermont with
dodger_sister to go to the wedding of one of her oldest friends and trying out a new medication to help me sleep that has been, well, not an awesome experience. Note to self: your body does not like anti-depressants. No, really, it doesn't.
When I haven't been all spacey from the new meds I've actually been writing. I know, I can't believe it either. The three things I'm working on are my sell-out novel (aka Fallen Angel Vampire), an AU story with Henricksen, Scully, Dean, and Reid (working title Codename: Hotass), and a Dean/Cas AU set at a Boy Scout ranch. LOL I don't even know anymore.
Anyway, in the interest of blogging more regularly (and to give the damn spammers more entries to hit) I thought I'd do that 30 Days of Fanfic meme that's been making the rounds. So here's Day One:
1 – How did you first get into writing fanfic, and what was the first fandom you wrote for? What do you think it was about that fandom that pulled you in?
This is both an easy and a difficult question to answer. The easy answer is the first fanfic I ever wrote and posted was Above All Shadows which is a LotR story. It's a Sam Gamgee POV set in the tower of Cirith Ungol. The thing about the LotR fandom in general, and hobbit fandom in particular, that made me want to write in it was how open and accepting it was. People were just generally nice in that fandom, it was a great, safe place wherein a writing newbie, such as myself, could get her toes wet and not have to fear that someone would tear her a new one. At least, not to her face. Plus, the Lord of the Rings is the Lord of the Rings. I loved that world long before the movies ever came out. Heck, one of the first Mary Sues I ever had was inspired by that world. I used to sleep at night telling myself stories about her and how she interacted with those characters. So, yeah, it's no wonder that when I finally broke down and started writing it was in that fandom. LotR will always hold a special place in my heart.
The more difficult answer is, well, more difficult. Way before I started writing fanfic I made up elaborate stories that were never written down. I can remember being around 5 years old and dreaming up stories about Inspector Gadget and She-Ra. When I was in college, and deep into X-Files fandom (I was a major online lurker), I wrote a philosophy paper for a college class that was basically a character analysis of Mulder and Scully. I've always been telling stories, but it wasn't until LotR that I felt comfortable enough to share them with anyone else. And now I can't stop.

Date: 2011-07-18 04:22 am (UTC)Yes, This. This is how I felt too. Even as I tried out other fandoms at the same time, I found my Home was generally in the LotR fandom because it felt so much like an open welcoming community.
So...Inspector Gadget and She-Ra as individual stories, or did you have some sub-universe involving both Inspector Gadget and She-Ra together? Because that would rule.

Though an Inspector Gadget/She-Ra crossover would totally rule.
