My friends, I implore you, don't go see The Last Airbender this weekend. It's an affront to everything we should hold dear (good storytelling, good acting, good direction) and it makes a mockery of the amazing series it's based off of. It's not surprising it's a trainwreck, ever since the news came out about how the production decided to whitewash the characters it became pretty apparent that they weren't even trying to show a little respect for the source material or the things that made it so great.

And if you don't know why the casting is so offensive this post by tirtzah linked by dotfic will coherently lay it out for you, as will the discussions taking place over at racebending.

So if you feel the need to spend your money this weekend and want to see what the hubbub is about, I ask that you watch the brilliant source cartoon and not the drek on movie screens. As added incentive, season sets are half price over at Amazon.

I am now putting this horrible movie in the same cabinet in a hidden corner of my brain as that awful Dark is Rising adaptation from a few years ago and locking them in, to never again see the light of day.

And, in not entirely connected news (only that the movies came out on the same weekend) members from the cast of Eclipse will, apparently, be popping up in random movie theaters across the country in the coming weeks (or so says Deadline Hollywood). So, watch out! The sparklepires might get you! Hide your children!

I shall tell Jim. Not that he can find anyone to go see it with him anyway. I can't believe you broke down and went and saw it. You and The Dad? He can talk you into going to see any piece of crap, can't he? *g* It's the pull of free popcorn, yes?
