Jan. 1st, 2010 07:27 pmIt's a new year. Thank you, God. Not that good things didn't happen in 2009; for example, three people I really love got engaged to awesome people (well, I assume that
bookgrl's fiance is awesome since she's marrying him and she has exquisite taste). So that was cool. But I'm still really glad that year is over. The only worse year in recent memory was the year I had a nervous breakdown and failed my last semester of college.
Come on, 2010. I dare you to be awesome. I triple dog dare you.
The Rundown:
8 Supernatural fics: All You Can Do,
Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice, The Meaning of Okay, Keep Calm and Carry On, A Long Way Down, Black As Dreams, Monkey See, Monkey Do, No Exit
1 Chronicles of Narnia ficlet: The Darkest Time
2 Crossovers: Damned If You Do, Though Grim From the Grey King Shadows Fall,
3 SPN Multimedia projects: SuperPretendNatural, Lazarus Get Over Here, Mockingbird
For a total of 11 stories in 4 fandoms.
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
I think I wrote more fic than I thought I would, though not all of the fic that I wanted to, if that makes any sense. I definitely didn't foresee all of the coda fic I wrote, though I do love all of it.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2008?
RPF. I never, in a million years, would have predicted writing Jon & Kate + Eight crossover RPF. I don't even know. Actually, I do know, and I blame the Baylor Sister, it was her birthday present, after all.
What's your favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
Everything and anything having to do with SuperPretendNatural. And not because I think Show is going absolutely wrong, I love Show. I just love mine and
baylorsr's version of show, too.
But my favorite story story would have to be Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice. It's a solid story and I adore it. Plus, it had a bacon-eating angel.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
OMG I wrote two people kissing! My friends, you have no idea how big that is for me. Writing physical intimacy always makes me anxious because I have a negative amount of experience in that area. So if it worked at all it's only indicative of the fact that I read way moresmut than a good mormon girl probably should. Though, somehow, I don't feel very guilty. ;-)
I also wrote humor in Monkey See, Monkey Do, and I was kind of nervous about whether it would come off as amusing as I wanted it to be. But people seemed to enjoy it, so that's a good thing.
From my past year of writing, what was:
Best story: I'm going to have to go with either All You Can Do or Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice. I think both of them turned out really well.
Story Most Underappreciated by the Universe: Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice. But I think its underappreciation is more due to my inability to write it the way it deserved and not to some Vast Fandom Conspiracy. I'll just keep plugging away and maybe, one day, I'll become the kind of writer I want to be.
Most fun: Monkey See, Monkey Do. Anything withThe Trickster, Gabriel, Skip is guaranteed to be entertaining. And the McDonald's strawberry shake is evil, evil, evil clown crack.
Most disappointing: There's not a strong, knee-jerk contender this year because there are things I wish I had done better in all of my stories this year. Nobody should have to live through bad writing, especially my friends.
Most sexy: While No Exit had The Sex Scene (or the beginning of one), Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice was the absolute slashiest thing I have ever written. Even when I was sitting there writing it I was sure that Kat and Jo would start making out any minute. And maybe, one of these days, I'll write that outtake.
Story With a Single Sexy Moment: No Exit. Halle-freaking-lujah. I kind of think I had an unofficial resolution in 2009 to be more porny and I pretty much made it. Though, you all tell me. No, really, tell me if whether it works or not because I have no frigging perspective (though I do trust that
hiyacynth would have told me if it sucked beyond the telling of it, but I'm still kind of crazy over it).
Hardest to write: Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice. At some point in the middle of writing it I felt like I couldn't remember how to actually write anymore. It was kind of ridiculous. And I'm going to stop now before I start pulling all of my stories to shreds. I'm just in one of those moods.
Most "OMG HEY *I* WROTE THAT! Fanon-Turned-Canon Moment: Unfortunately, I don't think I made any canon this year. It was
baylorsr who wrote the "Shouldn't have voted for Sarah Palin" line in Lazarus Get Over Here. I can remember being a total jackass in one episode reaction about how I called everything that happened but, for the life of me, I can't remember what any of it was, and I don't want to go back and remind myself of what an arrogant asshole I can be (there's a reason they call us U-Michigan grads A-squareds from A-squared *is shamefaced*).
Most unintentionally telling: I think A Long Way Down was more "intentionally" telling than "un"intentional. Because that was the conversation I really wanted to have with Cas after 'The End' aired. So, yes, my theological issues were definitely showing, there.
I'm also not entirely sure why I keep on writing stories from the POVs of women who are possessed. But, hell, all of my stories are unintentionally telling. That's what writing is.
This year's theme and the story that demonstrates it most: I'm kind of afraid that betrayal and emotional trauma are this year's joint and several themes. Because each and every one of my story deals with those themes in one way or another. I'm not sure whether those are Kripke's issues or my own that are showing. It's probably a little of both.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year? To write more. Always, to write more. Also, I really want to do SPN Big Bang this year. I've started a story already and everything (of course, it's a story I started a year ago, but la la la it takes me a while to pry things out of my head). So, yes, Big Bang is my goal. I hope I can make it.

Sam reached over and gently bracketed her face with his hand. He blinked and he was kissing her. She sighed into him, mouth open and warm. His hand swept down until it rested at the small of her back. Her breath hitched and he came undone. He needed more, he needed her.
He lifted and pulled and in one move she was on his lap. Jem twisted, bracketing his legs with her knees. She put her hands on either side of his head and carded them down through his hair. “Are you with me?” she whispered against his lips.
He growled and pulled her closer. She arched into him, and then leaned in and claimed his mouth with her own. He poured everything he had into her, all of his rage and grief, and wrapped up with it love, so much love. He wanted to cry, he never wanted to stop.
Jem broke away with a gasp. A soft smile twisted at her mouth. “Yeah, me too.”
He surged against her in response. She collapsed into him with a moan. He would never let her go.
