Today was Veteran's Day. One of these days I will get around to putting together the epic history post chronicling my family's service in the military since WWI. But today, unfortunately, is not that day.

I have been very busy today putting the finishing touches on a number of projects that had to be completed before the weekend. They're all very exciting but must be kept secret and safe until the proper time for their unveiling.

I think I'm going to fail at mini_nano this year. I made the word count on Monday but yesterday and today are complete washes, as far as writing is concerned. But that doesn't mean that I'm not going to dedicate significant time to finishing some of my big writing projects, I'm just not going to be able to pin the shiny mini_nano winner button on my shirt this year. The writing impetus, however, remains strong.

The Big Lug called me tonight itching to have an argument, so much so that when I tried to shut the conversation down before anyone started yelling he felt the need to tell me that what he hates about me and the Wrestler is how we'll never have an honest debate with him. No, we don't want to get into screaming matches, there's a difference. An honest debate occurs when two people are able to sit down and discuss topics, recognizing that while they may have different opinions there are still things upon which they can agree. His idea of a debate is to pound you over the head with his opinions until you are forced to agree with him or else. That's not a debate.

Plus, we have fundamentally and diametrically opposed political viewpoints. He thinks that when a state's budget is in deficit that you should cut services, I think that when a state's budget is in deficit you should raise taxes. Of course, he doesn't see the need for the government to provide any services except those that protect private property. I think that position is antiquated and morally repugnant.

As you can see, there's not much upon which we can agree. And since we're stuck in a family together it just makes sense to talk about shared interests rather than argue.

Thank goodness for the weekend of fangirl bliss that is ahead of me. It will be marvelous.

Over Thanksgiving I really need to go through the boxes in the basement and sort out old pictures for scanning. *makes not to self to get on the ball*

And you know the great thing about lj? It gives us weekends of fangirl bliss all of the time! Of the virtual nature, at least. =D
