Brain has been in switch-off mode for most of last night and today. Sometimes that's just what the doctor ordered.

Marathoned three more episodes of The Wire season two and fell even more in love with the show. I just, yes, yes, a million times yes. I love it when storytellers really, really get something right.

Speaking of, here's a great interview/conversation with Andre Royo (Bubs) about the difficulties in truly representing the lives and experiences of the homeless.

Then I tried to watch V and had to turn it off about 3/4s of the way in. They got to this part where they started making this very clear political statement and I was just done. I don't have the patience to deal with shows that feel like they have to preach at me. However, was very amused to notice a number of good ol' Vancouver locations. Though, surprisingly enough, the Asylum was not among them.

Also, stumbled over surprise!incest in a book I was reading. Actually, it wasn't really surprising because I've read that series of books I don't know how many times since high school. But, I don't know, maybe I was reading the text more closely this time because the vast quantities of incestuous relationships suddenly jumped out at me. I felt a deep need to scrub it all out of my brain. And then I started thinking about all of the other incestuous relationships I've seen in books and came up with a fair number of them (not counting Flowers in the Attic).

So, ummmmm, yeah. It's a good reminder that fandom isn't the only place where such things are de rigueur. Sometimes it's hard to keep perspective when we spend so much time in the deep end of the fandom pool. Or, in other words, fandom has not cornered the market on fucked-uppedness.

I can't stop watching Lady Gaga's Bad Romance video. I've never even seen her or purposefully listened to her music before today but there's something so fascinating about this video. I don't even know.

All right, then. Carry about your business.

I love, love, love when people get sucked into The Wire.

It's like the best novel you'll ever see on television isn't it. Honestly, I got hooked with D'Angelo teaching Wallace and Bodie how to play chess in Seson 1.

And, shiiiiit, you're only on Season 2. You haven't even hit the series' high points yet.

Don't get me wrong, Season 2 is good but it's far from my favorite season (although my appreciation for that season grows exponentially on rewatch because it becomes ever-more clear to me why they needed to get heavily involved in the dockworkers and why they had to do it in Season 2).

Just FYI, far-and-away the fanfavorite season is Season 4 (I heartily concur — it's like seeing the most perfect television ever), with Season 3 coming in second (again, I concur because Robert Wisdom kicks ass)

Also — this isn't really a spoiler, but keep your eyes open for a brief cameo from Robert Wisdom during Season 2 because it turns out to be really, really important for Seasons 3 and 4.

Oh, God. I am so, so jealous. You get to watch The Wire for the first time ever and completely unspoiled. There are days I wish I could erase the series from my brain so I can go back and watch it unspoiled all over again. (I've already watched all five seasons four times in the past year).

It's funny how I sat down to watch season one of The Wire and liked most of it but only the OMG I LOVE THIS MORE THAN LIFE somewhere around the pentultimate episode and then the same exact thing happened with season two. I presume, from your comments, that the OMG LOVE will continue from here on out.

I totally caught Robert Wisdom's sneakpeek in season two and did an excited couch dance. He is just too awesome for words. Am totally looking forward to seeing more of him next season.

And, actually, season two has really resonated for me. I live in Michigan and this time last year there were car factories all over the city and now they're all gone, they seemed to disappear overnight. So I can really empathize with the problems of Baltimore's blue-collar workers.

If it were a perfect world I'd be able to watch The Wire straight through till the end. I guess I'll just have to find a way to cope with having to do RL things in between viewings. Stupid RL.

For me, it was that scene where McNulty, pissed faceless, tries to drive his car around the corner about five times. Totally hooked me. Metaphor for everything about this series. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's all been said, but everything pales in comparison. It makes it difficult to watch stuff like V, eh?

It totally makes it difficult to watch stuff like V. The world would be a better place if more television was as well-crafted as The Wire. Oh well, back to the salt mines for us. *sighs*

You know, I'm not entirely sure when I exactly I fell in love with the show. It was in the middle of one of the pentultimate episodes of season one when it was like someone jerked on the spiderweb of characters and moments they'd been creating and it all suddenly rearranged into this amazing tapestry. It was something else. And I'm torn between wanting to see it all RIGHT NOW and wanting it to never end.

Oh what an awesome ride it'll be.

The urge to just book off time, stock up on microwave popcorn and watch the whole damn thing at once must be overwhelming. When you get to the scene with Snoop in the hardware store, call me. Favourite. Scene. Ever.
