It's good to remember that everything is not darkness and despair. One thing that is happiness and light is the fact that it's a birthday today!!!!

I've also referred to her as my High School BFF, which is true, but only gives the most superficial understanding of everything she's been to me over the years. I met her in my first week of middle school and we were inseparable from that point on. Heck, I was practically a member of her family during my adolescent days. She put up with me through high school, and even though we went different ways after graduation we've still managed to keep in touch and stay close through the more than 10 years since then.

I love you, hon, and am so glad that I've had the privilege of being your friend for so long. I'm certain that there are many excellent years left for us, as well. I know that this past year has been less than kind, so I hope that the coming year is better than you could possibly imagine (and I know you can imagine a lot). You deserve that and so much more.
