Sep. 17th, 2009 11:17 pmOMG SHOW!!!!!!!
OMG THEY DON'T DIE!!! Thank you Kripke (and Gamble) for not killing either Ellen, Jo, or Rufus. I was so friggin' worried I cannot even express it. I was worried enough to begin contemplating ceasing my SPN viewing if any of them died. I was just really, really worried and I'm so glad that Show came through for us in the end.
Actually, while I was rather lukewarm about the premiere I frigging loved this episode. It just worked for me on a level that the premiere didn't. I don't know why, I don't know how, I just know it did.
And, I've said it before but it bears repeating, those people owe Neil Gaiman (and now Terry Pratchett) a HUGE FREAKING CHECK. Hi, Show, your influences are showing, and I love you for it. I loveloveLOVE that they cast Titus Welliver as War and I can't wait to see him again. You should have heard the squealing noises I made when I saw his name onscreen. I hope he gets a scene with Bobby at some point in future episodes just 'cause.
You know, I don't think I'll be happy until Show becomes one ginormous X-Files/Deadwood reunion show. Because if neither Nicholas Lea nor Tom Braidwood show up at some point I will be very disappointed.
While I think both Sam and Dean are being morons I also think that a little separation will probably be a VERY GOOD THING for them both. The things that they've both experienced and suffered can't just go away, they each have to learn how to understand themselves as individuals again, let alone the other. They need distance and time, not too much distance and time, but enough to help them get their heads on straight.
I loved that moment in the church basement when Dean found out that Sam had been taken. Dean was all set to charge out of there, guns blazing, to get his brother back when he stopped. Right then you could see the gears in his head coming into alignment that it was that instinct, the unthinking 'Get Sammy Back At Any Cost' instinct that had gotten them all into trouble in the first place. Oh my gosh, Winchesters can not only learn from their mistakes but they can act on the things they've learned. The End of Days really must have come.
And I love that Sam is starting to learn from his mistakes as well. For all the times last season that I wanted to bash Dean over the head for not talking to his brother there were more times where I wanted to bash Sam over hte head with a clue-by-four. Because if it looks wrong and smells wrong and TASTES LIKE DEMON BLOOD then it's probably wrong. Sam's greatest strength and weakness is his stubborn pride and I know this because the same could be said about me. It's just a good thing that I've never had the End of Days resting on my very frail and human shoulders because the insight I may or may not have into the minds of fictional characters is more than outweighed by the blindness I can have about my own.
Seriously, sometimes I really do think that SPN was made especially for me because it pushes my buttons like few other shows ever have. Because I'm sure Kripke&Co sit around cackling in glee about how they've ruined my life. YOU KNOW THEY DO! *snerks*
OMG BOBBY! I love that he demanded that Castiel heal him and I love how Castiel was so earnestly and truly sorry that he couldn't do it. Bobby, man, you're breaking my heart. I've seen few things more awful on Show then Bobby staring out the window as Sam stares at him from the door. It said so much about them both with nary a word spoken.
Also, just this week I made a snarky comment to
hiyacynth about Dean actually knowing how to do research once upon a time (we were watching highlights from 'Shadow') and then Show had him being all smart and research-y as if it could hear me. Et tu, Show. Et tu.
Really, my only complaint of the evening was that there was a serious lack of bearded Titus Welliver. Ya'll should get on that before he shows up again because he is going to show up again, of course he is, and if I say it enough times I can totally make it come true (PS: I don't actually know and if you spoil me I'll cut you though I'll draw the line at trying to drink your blood afterwards).
IT'S MINE, PRECIOUS, IT CAME TO ME! gollum
And EVERYBODY LIVES, ROSE. This time EVERYBODY LIVES!
ETA: I am so seriously amused that the episode was titled 'Good God, Ya'll.' So utterly and completely amused. Oh, Show, I really do love you best.
