May. 11th, 2009 07:42 pmFYI, I saw Star Trek again on Saturday and I'm going to see it in IMAX tomorrow. And apparently I'm shipping Uhura/Spock like woah. Which is something considering how I haven't really shipped anyone since Mulder/Scully. *boggles* I guess it's true what they say, once a fangirl, always a fangirl. =D
And you know what else? Watching the movie has made me want to go back and watch a lot of old Trek. I really wish the dvd sets weren't so expensive or else I'd pop in some TNG or DS9 right now. I guess I'll just have to borrow some of the movies from the Da. mmmmmm Trek ...
Speaking of the Da, we actually went golfing today, to a real course and everything. I did okay-ish. I made a couple of really good hits and was hissed at by some geese. Plus Da shelled out for a golf cart. So, all in all, not a bad way to spend a Spring afternoon.
I guess I can be a lawyer now. ;-)
I've done a little reading in the past few weeks. Over the Richmond trip I read The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. I picked it up because it's the basis of the next movie that Peter, Fran, and Philippa are doing and am happy to report that it was an engaging read. I teared up more than once while reading it and while I might cry all the time at movies/tv books rarely make me cry so it definitely hit some poignant emotional notes. Last week I read Evernight by Claudia Gray. I bought it because the author has a fannish background and found it to be not a bad read. It's YA and is kind of a cross between Twilight and the Harry Potter books but with some nice cliche-bending twists and turns.
Now I just have to finish that comparative history of the French and Russian Revolutions that I've been working at forever. I don't read it during the school term (I get enough nonfiction from cases and textbooks, thank you very much) so it's particularly slow-going. But I shall perservere.
Ummmm, I swear I had a million random things to say and now I feel like I can't remember any of them. Oh well, I suppose I'll leave you with this tidbit of information: Chick-Fil-A is delicious and the Big Lug needs to stop taunting me everytime he goes there. It's just not fair.

Date: 2009-05-13 03:34 pm (UTC)And that whole scene where Bones was getting Kirk on the Enterprise really made me want to go back and watch that bit in Star Trek III where they bust Bones out of lock up and then steal the Enterprise. Good times.

Date: 2009-05-13 02:47 pm (UTC)I'm not a full-paying passenger on the U/S ship, though I enjoyed their scenes. I like the idea of those two souls together and totally buy their attraction/respect. But they're both such professionals, you know? I just don't think either of them would date another officer, especially when Spock outranks Uhura. So while I was all, YEAHBOY when they were kissing on the transporter pad, my brain was going, Ummm... okay, whatever, handwave. HOWEVER, as a caveat, I can totally get with the idea of their DAL and UST and adoring each other but never really getting to be together --> OMG Mulder and Scully all over again yes please.
/schitzo
Also? OMG I love me some Kirk and McCoy together (note that I didn't say Kirk/McCoy, as you yourself, Ish, well know), and a;sljkdfal;skdjf poqweuir cnwopeiuaslkdjf a NIMOY!!!
OMG My favorite moment (or, rather, setup and then payoff) was quite subtle for such a generally not-subtle movie:
The standard two-minute exposition on how Vulcans aren't without emotion; they feel them very deeply but tightly control them. Followed, an hour or so later, by Kirk reeling and devastated by Spock's mind meld sharing his pain over the destruction of his planet and people. Just... YES, THAT.
Okay. Brain = cooked from being up to late watching/discussing AWESOMETASTICNESS. Will call tonight to post-ST/pre-SPN flail!!!
WTF no ST icon. Must find me a couple (old and new) today. In the meantime wee!Hellboy speaks for me.

Date: 2009-05-13 03:48 pm (UTC)I completely understand your U/S point and, of course, approve of it. Because while I came home from my second viewing high on U/S love I too think that they're both much too professional to engage in too much fraternizing.
OMG, it totally is Mulder/Scully. No wonder I fell for it so hard. ;-)
Actually, I think my favorite Uhura-Spock scene is the one where she's telling him to put her on the Enterprise. I love that she's all 'I don't care if you're overcompensating because we've been emotionally involved I want to be on the Enterprise and I deserve to be on the Enterprise and I've earned the Enterprise so that is where I'm going to go.'
I love how they opened things up and really let all of the characters shine. Everyone was just so vivid and I loved it.
*flails with you* I kinda want to go see it again RIGHT NOW. But I have too many other things to do. *sighs* Stupid RL.
And, ummmm, today's Wed, not Thurs. I know, I've been making the same mistake all day. But you should totally call me tonight anyway so we can flail about Trek. Because OMG.

Date: 2009-05-13 05:11 pm (UTC)Lol, I seem to have mislabeled this icon, it's only tagged as "btw," so I have no idea what it's going to render...

Date: 2009-05-13 05:26 pm (UTC)And your icon bizarre because in my email it's Bobby with the flashing End of the World but on my lj it's Sam&Dean roshambowing. So, ummm, yeah, thought you'd like to know. =D
