Apr. 23rd, 2009 04:17 pmRanting totally took over my previous post. And I had amusing anecdotes to tell and everything. So now I'm going to tell them.
Had lunch/dinner with the Parents and the Wrestler on Tuesday to celebrate the Wrestler's birthday (it was actually on Sunday but he was studying for finals). After the meal we went back to the Parents' house to eat cake and ice cream. I was sitting across the table from him when I noticed there was something on his neck. At first I thought it was a zit, then I thought it was a cut and finally I realized it was a hickey. *cue epic, but silent lulz* I couldn't even give him crap about it because that's not the kind of think one mentions while around one's parents.
I'm glad to know that he and his Fangirl Girlfriend are still going strong. They really are an adorable couple.
While taking my Business Organizations final I came upon a section where I had to read a statute, interpret it, and then put together a hypo that explained it in my own words. One day soon my professor is going to read about how Lilith and Stan (since I couldn't very well call him 'Azazel' in my bluebook) were grossly negligent directors of the Singer Salvage Works, Inc. and Bobby, as a 10% shareholder, had to file a suit against them. Unfortunately the statute didn't mention exorcising anyone back to Hell, which we all know is how Bobby really would've handled the situation.
I've been getting a lot of Shakespeare from my Netflix queue, of late. Things always come in groups like that. I saw the version of Merchant of Venice that cast Al Pacino as Shylock. He wasn't too bad in the role, though there were opportunities that he missed. And the Antonio/Bassanio subtext was pretty much text. I also got Branagh's 4-hour long version of Hamlet. It was all about the political intrigue and very much emphasized that Hamlet could wallow in his own man!pain like nobody's business.
Now suddenly I want to write what would be the contemporary equivalents of fangirl reactions to various emo male heroes. The Elizabethans' hearts would flutter over Hamlet and the Victorians would swoon for Heathcliff. It would be called 'Fangirls Through the Ages' and it would be awesome. Because we're nothing if not archetypical. ;-)
You know what? I kind of love fandom. Yeah, sometimes I get all bitchy and say things I don't entirely mean, but I can never forget all of the good things I've learned from fandom. We're not afraid to turn the same critical eye on ourselves that we turn on the shows that we fan. And that's always a good thing.
