Entertainment Crack, volume 1.1.9
Mar. 22nd, 2004 10:50 amDid you know that Dawn of the Dead beat up The Passion of the Christ at the box office this weekend? I'm, strangely enough, kind of happy about this. As a matter of fact, as I type this I have a goofy little grin on my face;-). I never used to be a big fan of zombie movies (Night of the Living Dead scarred me for life when I was in 6th grade) but I'm really excited to see Dawn of the Dead. I can't wait to check it out. Oh, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind didn't do too shabby either.
I know quite a few people are excited about the Alien vs. Predator movie that is coming to a theater near you in August. I'm curious to see a better, more informative trailer for it and I'm beginning to think it might be just the sort of fun thriller that I always want to see in August. If you're at all interested in the movie, take a look at the interview director Paul WS Anderson recently did with Filmforce.com. It's informative to the extreme.
CHUD.com is the place to go for any sort of information you could ever want about the upcoming Hellboy movie. I love them for their fanboy ways, and apparently director Guillermo Del Toro does too, because he's given them an exclusive webisode to post at their site. It's short and interesting and gives a nice little overview of the dedication that went in to getting the movie made. Take a look.
Mel Gibson's next movie is going to be about Chankah? What the frell? He's certainly in the religous mode lately, isn't he? Actually, I'd probably be more likely to see his Chanukah movie then ever seeing his Passion movie. I've always liked the story behind the Festival of Lights, though, if Mel wants to turn it into some sort of western rather then a nice historical look at the time period, I might have to pass.
The first CD I ever owned was an original cast recording of Andrew Lloyed Webber's Phantom of the Opera. My best friend and I used to get into arguments about it (for example: she thought the Phantom was tragic and romantic and I always thought, and still think, that he was a raging psycho) and I can still, to this day, find myself walking down the street singing bits and pieces from the score. It's great fun and I'm really looking forward to the the movie that will be coming along soon. Recently, Minnie Driver (who's cast as Carlotta, the part I would want to have if I were ever cast in that show) talked about how difficult the vocal work is in it and how many of her songs have been dubbed. I don't blame her for an instant, that music is hard, especially if you haven't been in vocal training for years on end. This is what Ms. Driver has to say.
There's been a whole ton of casting going on this weekend. There's a new Dr. Who, the Green Hornet has been chosen, Robert Rodriguez has cast his movie adaptation of Frank Miller's Sin City and Kirsten Dunst talks about Spiderman 2. Whew, take a look.
I don't quite know what to make of the new Van Helsing trailer. I mean, I love Hugh Jackman, I enjoy Kate Beckinsdale, I'm a sucker for a gothic monster movie, but the trailer leaves me kind of flat. Tell me what you think.
And, an added bonus on the trailer front, is the trailer to Orlando Bloom's latest movie The Calcium Kid. I know absolutely nothing about this movie (besides the blurb I read beside the trailer link) but I'm posting it because of a conversation I had with an 11-year old Orlando Bloom fangirl last week. Her love was contagious and I could only hope that she would do the same thing for me, if she ever found something about Billy Boyd. This is for you, Sam;-).
Have a great Monday, ya'll and everyone in MI stay warm today. It's too dang sunny to be this dang cold.
