Ha! And the Spartans thought they could beat us. Once again, the University of Michigan Wolverines have proved their superiority in all ways, both athletic and academic (not that they need to prove their academic superiority, that's a given;-). U-M played the better football game on Saturday and beat the Michigan State Spartans 27-20. HA! Eat that you pansy, couch burning Spartans!

The game was definitely the highlight of the weekend. However, I also had the opportunity to watch a most delightful movie. The Shipping News, starring Kevin Spacey, Julianne Moore and Judi Dench (among many others) is a great movie. While it is a drama based on a Pullitzer Prize winning novel, it seamlessly uses magical realism to emphasize the human nature of the story. The characters are real people who have to learn how to triumph over the trials of real life. A nice, touching movie and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. A good, solid flick.

I have begun reading I Will Bear Witness by Victor Klemperer. Herr Klemperer was a German Jew who kept a detailed journal his whole life, a journal that included the Nazi years in terrifying detail. This book, more then any other, is giving me an insight into what it must have been like to be a normal German citizen during that era of insanity. Prof. Klemperer's work is erudite and engaging. I can highly recommend this memoir to anyone who has any interest in understanding the terror fostered by the Nazis.

Looks like it's going to be a long, rainy week. Guess I'll just have to find a way to keep myself busy online. I don't think I'll have a problem;-).
