It's been a very long weekend, so let's cut to the chase right away this morning;-). Today we've got all sorts of stuff to bask in, including the trailer for the upcoming adaptation of the Issac Asimov classic I, Robot starring Will Smith, an animated movie entitled Space Monkeys, Elijah Wood in a soccer movie and the optioning of the Dragon Reborn, just to name a few. Life doesn't get much weirder then this.

The Passion of the Christ is still dominating the box office charts and not even the Depp was able to roust it from the mountain to take his turn as king. The entire box office listings can be found here and I'm sure you'll all note that RotK is still riding high in the Top Ten. It's good to be a fan;-).

I think all fans of science fiction both love and hate the movies of that genre. We love them for the spectacle they produce and the ideas they generate and we hate them because they're never quite able to reproduce our most cherished novels in the right way. Now that great example of Golden Age sci-fi, I, Robot is coming to the silver screen and even the fact that it's starring Will Smith hasn't lessened my optimism about this movie. See, I actually like Will Smith and think he might do a decent job here. From the look of the trailer it's going to be one of your big budget, sci-fi action extravaganzas but I hope that it retains some of the questions about humanity and identity that have caused the book to be so beloved.

I, Robot Trailer

That crack dealer Robert Jordan is about to get a whole lot richer. That's right, ladies and germs, a production company has optioned the whole kit and kaboodle and The Wheel of Time will be coming to movie screens near all of us sometime in the future. I have ranted about these books before and I will rant about them again and I can only hope that the possibility of big screen success will force the author to just finish the series already. Damn the man, he's going to give me an aneurysm one of these days. I can't wait to see who they cast, I really, really can't;-).

Rolling Fantasy

To finish off the book to screen trifecta is news of casting being done in the SciFi Channel mini-series adaptation of Ursula K. LeGuin's famous fantasy series. The mini-series will actually be an adaptation of the frist two books in the series, A Wizard of Earthsea and The Tombs of Atuan and apparently will be starring Isabella Rossellini in a key role. I really, really like what the SciFi Channel does with its mini-series adaptations and I can't wait to see what they do with another great genre classic. If they keep on doing productions like this I might be forced to continue watching the channel, even though they cancelled Farscape. Fingers definitely crossed. Excuse me while I go and watch my copy of Dune and drool on Alec Newman.

Rossellini headlines Earthsea

DreamWorks is making an animated movie named Space Monkeys. How cool is that. I would go see this movie on the basis of the title alone and the fact that it's based around monkeys who were involved in the NASA space program during the 1950's is just icing on the cake. It'll be like The Right Stuff for the simian set. I love it, everyone has to go see this movie. Look at the monkey, look at the monkey.

Monkeys in Spaaaace!

Angel: The Series might not be as dead as we all thought it was. Rumors are flying that 20th Century Fox and Mutant Enemy are in talks to film a sixth season of the popular show. I'm not sure if that will eventually amount to a hill of beans, but it's a hopeful sign, nonetheless. I still can't believe that the WB cancelled Angel so that they could do a remake of Dark Shadows that horrifically cheesy vampire soap-opera from the sixties. I blame reality TV, really I do;-).

Angel Not Dead Yet?

Speaking of dead things, how many of you knew that a remake of George Romero's Dawn of the Dead is coming out next week? I don't know a lot about either the original or the remake, but it looks kind of cool. I love apocolyptic, surviving the end of the world kinds of stories and this one sounds really interesting. It cast is good, the story sounds compelling and there'll be zombies to be destroyed! You can't get much better then that.

Dawn Cast Looked Back

This is just way too funny. Elijah Wood in a movie about soccer (football) hooligans. I admit, I think it's cool just because the article used the word hooligan to describe the movie and I think that's one of the funniest words ever;-). It just sounds very British, violent and funny, a winning combination in my book.

Elijah Wood Learning to Kick Soccer Fans' Butts

Whew. That's it for me today. Have a great day and a great week and let's hope Persephone gets her ass back up here from Hades 'cause I am more then ready for Spring to finally, well, spring. Viva la Primavera!

I've been waiting impatiently for Dawn of the Dead now for a few months. I'll be there when it opens. But I must note that I hated the original, boring as hell if you ask me. This one looks much better, so I'm excited! Asimov was my fav writer when I was growing up, so seeing I Robot in the theaters will be a real treat! Now they need to make the Foundation series...

I've been hearing FOREVER about someone possibly doing mini-series, or movies about Wheel of Time! You know, at this rate, we'll be octagenarians by the time the series is completely written and portrayed on the silver screen. Guess we're all set, huh? Except for those extraordinarily long waits inbetween... AHHH!!!!!

As I've said before, I think RJ is going to get Alzeimher's, and then completely forget everything he's written... He'll probably die before that series ever gets finished! GRRR!!!! It's good, don't get me wrong, but I can't think of a single other author I've read that can write 600 pages where almost NOTHING happens. AHHH!!!!! By the time the next one comes out, I will have once again, completely forgotten major characters and subplots (there are only, how many? 100 or so at least?). I wonder how many MORE characters he's going to give us...

Yeah, I've been thinking I really need to go see Dawn of the Dead when it comes out this weekend. It just sounds really cool.

Exactly, they need to make the Foundation series, stat. Of course, if I were running Hollywood it would already be made and it would be spectacular. I think I need to start running Hollywood;-).

See, Angel is all about a vampire, a guy who's supposed to be dead but isn't, so it would only be appropriate for the show to come back from seeming death. The WB might think they have the power of life and death but they're certainly no higher power;-).

I know, isn't that trailer great? Teh sci-fi love is strong with us;-).

I hate Robbie. I hate him I hate him I hate him. He needs to just finish the story, not go back and perfect every freaking detail, not add more twists and turns to the plot, not force more characters down our throats, but just end the story and let us move the hell on. Freaking RJ. He'd better not die before he finishes the story, or I'll kill him. Or maybe my head will just explode and put me out of my misery.

*mumbling* Stupid RJ. Curse him, we hates him.

Oh, I know. I'm really excited to see how Earthsea turns out, as well. I'm both nervous and excited about the whole operation.

Of course, if they were filming in New Zealand that would be pretty much perfect...;-)

Tech sci-fi love, Will Smith and Alyn Tudyck (Least I think that's how you spell it) in the same film!!!!!! It's on my list of must see : - )

He was in Firefly as well, yes another premature victim of the cancellation board : - (

I loved him so much in Firefly, he was one of the reasons I watched the show when it was on (and one of the reasons that I'll buy it, eventually, on DVD).

Fox TV should really get its head out of its ass. TV networks are plain evil.

Tell me about it. Sometimes it feels like every time I get really into a show it goes and gets cancelled!
