Hee. Sorry. In a giddystrange sort of mood. ;-)

Bought a book today. Actually, bought three books, but the first one I started reading was Spellbinder by Melanie Rawn. It's the first book she's written in a decade and I'm happy to see that she's writing again. I'm not even 100 pages in and already I'm reminded of why I enjoy her writing so much. She's one of us, you guys. She's a fangirl and while I don't think she's ever written fanfiction (though I could be wrong) she shares our worldview. She's a great writer, no question about that, but so far I'm most amused by the familiar atmosphere of the story. Plus she already threw in an X-Files connection that just made me chortle. I am excessively entertained.

I haven't re-read Ruins of Ambrai in forever. I should totally do that.

Ahem, speaking of stories, had this cracky AU idea over the weekend. It all spawned from badfic I read (don't ask) and was my attempt to fix it, in a way. I guess it could be called the XMen AU though it's more Babylon 5, in a way, then XMen. Anyway, it's a world where the government is aware of people being born with various psychic/metahuman/mutant powers and whenever they find someone like that they take them away to The Center to indoctrinate them. Somehow Mary was killed either because she refused to go or they were coming for John or something (I haven't worked out that detail yet) and so John took his boys on the run determined to keep them safe and to take revenge on the people who killed his wife.

At around puberty Dean discovers that he has some ability but it's of such a type that he's able to hide it and so when Sam manifests at a precociously young age (cause he's Sam and precocious) Dean tells him to do the same. They hide them not only from the world at large but also from John because they're kids and it's scary and you know Dean. However, one day at school Sam has a bad migraine-seizure combo because some new aspect of his abilities springs into being and the bad government guys discover it all. They descend on the school and take Sam away and Dean, being Dean, comes clean because he's not going to let Sammy be taken away from him.

Then, of course, there are horrible things that happen at The Center and a thrilling escape and they eventually head off to look for their Dad and help him in his quest of bringing the bad guys down.

And I might actually write bits and pieces of this. Or I might only write it in my head. Either way, I'm having a lot of fun with all of this. It's nice having adventures in your head ;-)

I can't believe school starts back up again in a little over a week. Even though I took the term off for not-so-great reasons the freedom to sit around and putz on the internetz has been marvelous. I'll miss it when it's gone. *sigh*
