Am back from the rheumatologist and am quite pleased with the visit as a whole. Have been preliminarily diagnosed with fibromyalgia (link thanks to [livejournal.com profile] hiyacynth) and OMG that is better than the lupus that I feared. My rheumatologist is wonderful. She took me seriously and had real ideas about how to to treat things and gave me prescriptions and physical therapy and it's all going to cost a lot of money but I don't really care because I finally might be able to really deal with all of this. Yayz!!!!!!

On the downside apparently the whole theory behind treating fibromyalgia is pain management so when I used to call this "my chronic pain thing" I really wasn't wrong. There's no mystical, magical cure-all drug but, you know, that's okay. I can deal with anything now that I know what the hell I'm actually dealing with.

That's really all I have to report. Oh, and that I just read a rumor that there might be a musical version of Brokeback Mountain starring Hugh Jackman and James Marsden. I know a lot of people who would pay good money to see that.

Okay, nappy time -- which apparantly is better for me than I previously thought. Awesome, I love naps.

What a relief to have a diagnosis, and a good doctor. I'd be interested to hear what you're prescribed for pain management, especially since it will probably be long term.

*hugs you and tucks you in*

It is such a relief. It was amazing how much better I felt after I had the diagnosis. Even though I was still feeling a little down physically I was able to bear it much better simply because I knew what I was dealing with.

Will update re: pain management techniques. It sounds like my doctor is a fan of homeopathy as she has already suggested accupuncture.

*snuggles in deep*

SO glad it went well and that you've found a doctor who actually listens to you and is willing and able to help. I kinda want to go to your GP and kick him in the shins and go "NYYYEAAHH!"

Seriously? Brokeback the Musical? I mean, that cast's pretty and all, but... Really?

I have an awesome idea. We should totally go TP my GP's house the next time you're in town. I think Merry and Pippin would highly approve.

*smooch*

Yay you'll be on pain meds! You can share! What? That wasn't what you were thinking?

Uh-huh. Cyclops and Wolverine. riiight. Pain meds? ;)

Of course, they were cast in a Bryan Singer movie, which means they had sex with him, so ...

Hey, I have a question -- do Mormons like hymns from other Christian sources? Like, would you use them in services and stuff.

My doctor so totally has yet to prescribe any of the good pain meds. *pouts* Guess we'll have to wait a little bit longer to have that party.

Hey, I only tells it as I hears it re: Cyclops and Wolverine. Though what I read sounded more like dream casting than anything else, even though you raise a very valid point as regards being in a Bryan Singer movie. ;-)

All right. Music is very important in Mormon services. Generally only songs from the hymnal are used for most services but that has more to do with accessibility than anything else (and many of the hymns in the hymnal come originally from other Christian sources).

However, frequently during the primary Sunday service there is a special musical number and while there are general criteria for these (must be of a sacred nature and reverential) the music can come from any number of sources.

Do you have "On Jordan's Stormy Banks" in your hymnal? (It's for a mix I'm making about a guy who was raised LDS. I need a big, moving, inspiring ending hymn after all the tragedy.)

Unfortunately it's not in the hymnal. But I don't think that should stop you from using it, IMHO. *wink*

well...

It may not be ideal, but at least you have a diagnosis. Still can't believe it took this many years to figure out. I remember us talking about this possibility back in the beginning! Hopefully you'll get to feeling better very soon.

And it's not like I wasn't already dealing with all of it anyway. It's amazing how much of a relief a simple diagnosis can be. That and having a doctor who doesn't treat you like a crazy person.

Not that I'm not crazy, just not about this. ;-)

You? Crazy? Well, just a little bit :)

But I hear you on the doctor listening. I remember the jerk who didn't believe me about my wrists and basically told me I was lying when I informed him he never instructed me on WHEN to wear the braces he prescribed. Jerk. It is very important for docs to listen...especially if they want repeat business. Sounds like it's time for a new GP.
