I had expectations for this episode. I was spoiled for a few things and figured out a few more and I expected it to be a fun, angsty romp where Sam got to have sex and that would be that. I didn't expect to cry at the end because Winchesters always break my fucking heart.

Poor Sammy is never having sex again. It's not fair! Shut up, I know life's not fair and I know it especially sucks for our boys at the moment but I can still want them to be happy! Because I do, I yelled at the TV screen for the last 10 minutes begging them not to take the route they were going down, not to make Sam kill Madison but it didn't listen, it never listens.

Stupid Sera Gamble, writing another episode that ripped my heart out of my chest. Dean with death being his gift and Sam, oh Sammy, honey, taking on that burden. Arguing and arguing for another way and then shouldering it when the time came. Winchesters. *sob*

The season finale is going to rip me into pieces.

Sera Gamble brings it, doesn't she. *g*

Yeah, the angst factor was high. But it would've been worse if Dean had done the kill. More of them stuck in a cycle.

Or, if they hadn't gone there at all. When I suspected they were going to go there (I said out loud, "oh my god is Sam going to have to KILL her? Are they GOING THERE?") I immediately worried they'd shy away and find a way out of doing something that sad and dark. But they did it. And I'm all :o

She so totally does. And one of the tangential things I love about her episodes is love it or hate it people always have a lot to say afterwards. A good writer makes you engage and think. *loves*

That's one of the things I love about our show, the fact that they don't take the easy way out. For as much as my lizard brain wants to protect and keep safe and mourns for all of the hard things they have to do I love them because they don't back down from doing what needs to be done.

It's that mature heroism that makes this show so much more then the sum of its parts. Character and story comes first and that's why our show has yet to disappoint.

Now that you mention it, that's true. There's always a lot of discussion/debate after her episodes. And not everyone likes her work.

Thinking back, each of her episodes has prompted a strong response from me. After Bloodlust I wrote a meta essay. After Crossroad Blues I wrote a coda. HOTH led to a lengthy, satisfying meta discussion off my episode recap. Heart kicked off a Sam & girls essay.

I'm pretty much owned by the Sera Gamble writing/Kim Manners directing combo. Unless Eric Kripke has written or co-written the episode, and then I know I'll likely need therapy after seeing it. :p

That's pretty much why we love characters. They get so much crap thrown at them and they keep on going. One thing I really love about SPN is the eps are never completely without humor -- just goofy, everyday humor -- or moments of grace or solace. I hope they don't lose that balance because I'm sure things will get worse for Sam and Dean before they get better, and I can only stand to watch them suffer so much.

Exactly. And I'm expecting to have to foot the bill for years of therapy after this season's finale. Years and years and years.

My appreciation for that balance has especially been reaffirmed during the latest season of Battlestar Galactica. Strangely enough, the humor and such not only keeps the show entertaining, which I'll admit is something I want from the things that are beamed into my living room, but it also keeps it more realistic. We as viewers need those moments to retain our erstwhile sanity just as much as the characters do. Even Batman makes jokes, occasionally, sometimes, once in a great while. ;-)

I'm going spoiler-free, but have seen anxious noises around the cut-tags. And now I am anxious.

Lalalalalala not going to talk about it lalalalalala...

Therapy. Years. Yeah, very likely.

That's how it is for me too--BSG is a wonderful show in a lot of ways but the lack of sense of humor or the ability to slyly poke fun at itself in any way turned me off.

Heh. Batman is grim, grim, grim...but he has Alfred. And Robins.

Oh yeah, spoiler free is the way to be. And not only are there the anxious noises but there's also Kripke-an history which tells me that if last year was bad this year can only be a billionty times worse.

*takes deep, cleansing breaths*

So what you're saying is that BSG needs some Robins and maybe an Alfred to lighten things up a little? I can totally get behind that. ;-)

Poor Sammy is never having sex again.

Did they-did they castrate him? I don't watch the show, so I'm kind of out of the loop.

*hugs*

Oh no! Nothing like that! The show might go kinda dark but I don't think it'd ever go there. *shudders at thought*

So, you know how Sam's girlfriend died in the pilot and it was pretty much because the demon that's after Sam wanted her out of the way? And Sam's mom died over his crib? Well, in this week's episode Sam finally let himself get close to another quasi-love interest only to have to shoot her in the end because she was a werewolf. It was the definition of angst-ridden.

So, yeah, pretty much every woman Sam's ever had a relationship with has died because of him in some way. Poor boy will never love again. It's very sad.

Oh, MAN, Sam is totally never having sex again!!!

Gotta say, I found much of the episode to be filler so we could all get to that last 15 minutes, which were... YEAH. What you said above, plus jeeewezszzzuus Sam's got ... guh. But OMG I thought I would die, when .... and then.... and DEAN says, but Sammy's all, no... and ... OMG WINCHESTERS!@!!!!

For the record, I totally dreamed Sam's sex scene last night, and it was really different in my head. But that's okay. I liked their version, too. Kinda wonder when they stopped to build the romantic fire, but you know, whatever. GUH.

So, we've discussed it and have decided that the power of the transmitter in your brain is getting kind of creepy. In a good way, but still, yeah.

Our show breaks me every.single.time. I love it so much.
