Jan. 20th, 2007 03:06 pmIt's cold and snowy here in Michigan. I've never seen a stronger argument for global climate change then 60 degree weather in Michigan in January. If I had been in Florida that would've been okay but here in the Great White North it felt wrong and creepy so I've been rejoicing over this return to form. Plus, the snow is so dang pretty.
But, there is something to be said for summer. In an attempt to pass the time as well as remind all of us northerners what we have to look forward to in a few months, here are some photos from the family camping vacation I took last August. We went to the Wells State Park in Michigan's Upper Peninsula right on Green Bay (hence all the Packers penants people had flying). I didn't take nearly as many photos on this trip as I did the year before but I still got some good ones.
I love taking photos of the sun rising/setting over the lake and it's not often that I have the chance to capture a sunrise over Lake Michigan. I only wish I had remembered my camara when I saw a huge red moon rising over the Lake the night before. That was really something.

Our campsite was right on the Lake, so here is how it looked from there, with a little campfire smoke thrown in for atmosphere.

The Da, reading on the beach

My Brothers, goofing around in the water. The land you see on the horizon is only an island, not the other side of the lake.

Playing catch on the beach

My Brothers being brothers. Plus, if you'll observe, they slept on an air mattress. I was much moreof a cheapskate hardcore and slept right on the ground.

Saturday morning the Da and I took a nature walk along the beach from our campsite to the swim area. There's a reason why they call it Green Bay, from a distance it looks great, up close not so much

On the way home we made a detour to Kitch-iti-kipi which is this amazingly clear freshwater stream full of lake trout and ducks. We took an observation raft out to the middle of the spring and you could see all the way to the bottom.

My Brothers, entranced by the view

Proof that my dorkishness is totally genetic

3 days of camping and I could still get them to smile for the camara. I kinda love my family

I like this tradition we've started of taking a family camping trip every summer. I really hope it continues.

Date: 2007-01-21 05:41 am (UTC)Um, is it bad that I saw "Packers peanuts" in the opening paragraph and then got sad there were no pictures of them? I'm such a cheesehead sometimes.
That lake/stream/thing is gorgeous!
