Once upon a time I took a great history course on Early Christianity and for it I wrote one of my all time favorite papers that was entitled, "Women In Transition: The Redefinition of Gendered Roles and Power Structures in Early Christianity." It dealt primarily with how women in the frontiers of the Christian world used religious ideals and philosophies to usurp social power that otherwise would not have been available to them.

I'd been reminiscing about undergraduate history and how much I preferred it to what I'm doing now and my mind veered to Supernatural, as it tends to do of late, and I had this wonderful idea. There needs to be a female monastic sect that is dedicated to hunting down all of those supernatural baddies. One of the fun things about Supernatural is that while it uses Catholic rituals it embraces a very Protestant view as regards the authority of all believers so that anyone can exorcize a demon or bless a tower of holy water.

I can just see so clearly in my mind the way a sect of nuns could have evolved in the frontier of the Americas. They would've been Spanish to begin with, perhaps a group of women quietly fleeing the Inquisition because some priest began probing their activities a little too deeply or maybe they felt a greater calling to combat the evils of these wild continents.

This idea excites me a whole lot and I have literally droned on about this and then felt ridiculously geeky about the whole thing. But, come on, popular culture has been inundated lately with secret Vatican socieites and fantasy books have warrior monks and clerics and the like and it's not really fair. Women should get the chance to share in that particular brand of excitement.

And just imagine the Winchesters meeting co-workers who turn out to be nuns. How cracky is that?

Man, I am such a geek.

I love your brain. It is the best brain ever.

Also, on top of all the cool you just outlined? You gotta know Dean takes those nuns as a personal challenge.

My brain scares me sometimes but other times it gives me hours of fun and this idea? Is hours of fun.

Once you get back and we sit you down and make you watch some Jensen on SV I will regale you with some things that came to me last night. It's so exciting! *flails*
