Sep. 6th, 2006 02:19 pmDay 2 of law school done. Properties is even less interesting then Contracts. It would probably help if I didn't study in front of the TV, at least for this one class.
The ankle is feeling better. Still limping around a bit but mobility is greatly increased. I'm not sure whether to thank the ibuprofen, the ace bandage or the pint of Ben&Jerry's I ate last night. I'm sure it's some magical combination of the three.
Watched the Standoff pilot last night. It's not a great show. In my head I compare it to Bones which I kind of tried watching last year but it didn't stick because I don't fangirl David Boreanaz. Lucky for Standoff I fangirl three of its main cast members and their presence and chemistry is enough to keep me watching for a bit. The show has possibility and, really, only one scene bothered me. There's a bit whereNix Matt Ron Livingston goes down to talk with Bull Frank Michael Cudlitz and his tactical boys. While down there they get into a discussion and one of the tac boys yells that Nix needs to "control that bitch" in reference to Matt's partner/significant other. Matt gets upset and there's a whole thing but not about how obnoxious it is to make derogatory statements about a fellow agent but rather about how Matt is sleeping with her and he feels the need to uphold her honor, or some such.
The set-up of the scene is very masculine and the rest of the show is generally equal so that bit sticks out, especially considering how "That Bitch" saves the day at the end of the episode. So are we supposed to view the unfortunate scene as how guys really think about the women they work with or as the continuing sexism problems in the work place, especially in places like the FBI or what? I don't know but it was upsetting and I wouldn't be surprised if it turned people off the show entirely.
Oh well, like I said, it's not a show I would watch if it didn't have some of 'my actors' on it. Gina Torres is gorgeous (and kicks ass in later episodes, one can only hope) and Ron Livingston is charismatic and charming. It has potential. I'll watch, as long as I don't have any studying to do.
Not much else to report. Errands to run and cases to read. No good TV tonight so maybe I'll actually focus on CrimLaw. Or maybe I'll stare at it blankly and waste all of my time. It could go either way. =D

Date: 2006-09-07 12:04 am (UTC)But yeah. Not great. Not as bad as I thought it would be. Nowhere near as bad as Bones, which I really, really disliked.
Glad you're starting to mend! I'm sure the ice cream-ibuprofen tag team helped.

Date: 2006-09-07 02:45 am (UTC)Yeap, and no matter how boring Bones is its still on the air, here's hoping the Vortex smiles benevolently upon some of its agents and keeps them employed for a little while.
Doctors should prescribe the ice cream and ibuprofen mixture to everyone. It's a magical cure-all. ;-)
