I got the first 6 episodes of Saved from the Illustrious Baylors the other night (all hail TiVo!) and sat down to watch the pilot last night while folding laundry. I can absolutely recommend it. It made me cry and not the bad, angry crying that Serenity inspired but a good, soul cleansing sort of cry. You can tell tv and movies and all kinds of media make me cry a lot since I have categorized and quantified the reactions. I am such a girl. *rolls eyes*

Anyway, I've been fond of Tom Everett Scott since That Thing You Do! and I'm glad he's hit such a goldmine with this show. All of the supporting actors are top notch and the writing and direction is good. Unfortunately, the day has not yet come where a show can have a mormon character who isn't hopelessly naive but I can look past that. I'll just write replacement scenes in my head. No big. ;-)

It shouldn't surprise me that there are still nice people in the world but it did today. It was the best kind of surprise. I went across the street to get a screw replaced that I knocked out of my glasses. The woman at the shop was kind and polite and not only replaced the screw but bent the frame back into shape and waved away and suggestion at payment. I then noticed a sign in the dollar store window. It was an announcement about a good man, one of the managers of the coffee shop on the first floor of my building, who passed away unexpectedly over the weekend. It was a touching obituary of a man who always had a kind word to say to everyone he met. The other businesses in the area are collecting donations for a fund in his honor. I was left with the thought of how much impact one person, one word, even, can have. I'm so glad to be reminded that, well, to paraphrase Sam Gamgee, there's still good in the world. It's enheartening.

The heat has broken and may we all have and extraextraordinarily spectuacular weekend. 13 minutes and counting till FREEDOM!

Someday when you are a great movie director/producer and I am a famous writer, we will make a movie in which the hero is a total badass mormon. One is long overdue. :)

One is absolutely overdue. Ours'll be great. *starts plotting*

I've given further thought to the character on Saved and he doesn't bug me as much anymore. He reminds me of a couple kids I knew on my mission. Their naivete was kinda sweet, you know?

But still, the badass mormon needs to be written.
