Aug. 2nd, 2006 12:45 pmI'm feeling spammy today. It's probably the heat. The office is still sweltering with no signs that the stuffiness will dissipate. There are a few things I could be doing but they involve actually moving which will only make me sweat more.
The stories for
spn_50states are going up and they are, on average, of amazingly high quality. It's a great overview of the high level of fic in the fandom. Ever since I heard about the challenge I've been thinking about what I would've written, if I had signed up. Would I have written a UP story? Or maybe a U-Michigan one? Would I have talked about my hometown or about the wooded north? Would it have been cold and bleak and February or hot and humid and August? Maybe I would've talked about a haunted lighthouse or the dogmen folktale that I heard about one Halloween. And that's not even talking into account the desperation of people in places like Saginaw and Flint and what a power mad Kwame Kilpatrick could get up to in Detroit. I drive by an abandoned auto plant on my way to work everyday and the more I pass it the more haunted it looks.
Wow, it's a good thing I never signed up because I never would've finished by the deadline. Maybe I'll just let the ideas percolate and see what comes, in the future.
I did find a funny site that relates, WeirdMichigan.com. There's stuff on there that I've never even heard of, including tales of Great Lakes pirates. Oh my giddy aunt.
I'm too hot and cranky to finish the meta that I've been trying to write all afternoon so I'll just say that it's awfully strange that for all of the million and one depictions of family that I've seen on my TV screen the one that comes the closest to representing my personal experience with family is the one that, on the surface, doesn't look like much more then a teen horror movie gone serial.
The AC guys were just in here and apparently the reason the office is so hot is because the air it's pulling in from outside is 117F and the unit just can't keep up. Son of a bitch, I wanna go.
