I'm tired of being cold and I'm tired of the furnace turning itself off on the coldest nights of the year, necessitating much banging and praying and holding of breath until it turns itself back on. At least the Scrappy-pup still manages to serve as a furnace-type as I sleep. I love my pup.

The past week's been a mash of good and crappy and mind-numbingly banal. On the good side (as I am determined to only focus on the good;-) had a fun movie night with [livejournal.com profile] hlgraban and Dan on Monday. We rented The Odyssey, you know the old mini-series from back in the high school days of the mid-nineties. I was rooting for another viewing of Return of the King but at least The Odyssey had Christopher Lee in it to feed the addiction. It was fun to just sit around, eat delicious honey butter popcorn and make snarky comments about what was going on in mini-series land. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun video but there's always room for snark;-). We need to have fun movie nights more often.

Have to go see the doctor today. Bleh. I hate physicals. It's supposed to snow some more today. Double bleh. So, to spice up life, here's a little question. Because of the popularity of Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter movies fantasy movies are on the rise. What, then, would you choose to be the next fantasy book/concept turned into a movie and why? (The next Harry Potter films do not count, since they are already going to be films, if you follow)

Ooh, you spelled it wrong. It's The Odyssey. Sorry... kind of a pet peeve of mine. I can't stand to see things spelled wrong. It almost causes me physical pain... I wince, I actually physically wince, when I see spelling errors. But hey, it is part of my job afterall... I defend our grocery stores from glaring spelling errors that make us look like the complete and utter morons some of us are (oops, what a minute...)!

You know Sunday, I was investigating our competition (translation: I was shopping at Meijer), when I saw the signs above the dairy case. Not one, but TWO different signs had handwritten on them "Olny" $.50 each or some such price. Yikes. And the sight of those glaring spelling errors just made something lurch inside me, in sick fascinated horror... I mean, come on, I can understand mispelling it once, but twice? What has our society been reduced to? Ah, the curse of being a perfectionist... Everything seems to disappoint me in some way, except biology. The way things in life work, it's absolutely perfect. You cannot even believe how complicated every process in the human body is, from the cellular level and up. It's absolutely stupefying.

Ok, anyway... sorry Megan... No offense. I'm not a perfect speller either. I can't spell Selma Hayek right, cause when I responded Chris, I spelled it Selma Hyak. Duh. Guess you know how important she is to me... But yeah, The Odyssey rocks! It's my favorite Greek story, just cause I love the end so much. Revenge! And what a revenge at that! And then, everyone lives happily ever after... Hmm... I think I need a punching bag...

Ha Ha! I laugh at your spelling superiorty!;-) I knew something looked wrong with that word, brain wasn't officially on yet (or you can insert relevant excuse here;-).

The Robin Hobb books would make great movies, though they'd be really difficult to watch. All that angst, all that despair, wow. If not movies then the SciFi channel should definitely mini-series them.

Oh yeah, forgot to answer your question! I think they should do movies of Robin Hobb's Assasin Trilogy and its sequel, the Fool Trilogy. Those books are SO awesome! They are positively angst-ridden, and the characters have so many secrets, especially Fitzchivalry Farseer. Wow. I just LOVE those books. They just make you want to cry, and then scream, and then hug the characters... Robin Hobb's an absolutely amazing writer, and I think you can attest to her effect on me, having witnessed it yourself our sophomore year. Scary to see me that absorbed in a book, wasn't it? But seriously, she's written a great epic. The only reservation I'd have is that I'd want it done right- so we'd have to hire Peter Jackson as the director, and we'd have to make all the movies really long and accurate. I don't think I could bear any butchering of her work. Queen of the Damned was painful enough. I can't believe that Anne Rice was actually satisfied with that! It could have been SO much better! I did like Stewart Townsend as Lestat though... He's the reason I like The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, he's just so intense, and well, darkly sexy... hmmmm, yum...

Wow, this looks more like a Heather post than a Megan post! haha! J/K Heather... ;)

I would have to say something by Isaac Asimov, since he is my favorite sci-fi writer. It's been a while since I've read his books, but there is one trilogy that I would love to see as movies. I'll look online and post the names if I can find them.

Hey! Everybody has to bitch sometime! I'm going to blame the pettiness on January, because everything sucks once January...15th passes us by;-).

Ooo, Foundation Trilogy, that's a good one. They're turning I, Robot into a movie this year, so if that one's really popular we should start campaigning for some Foundation-y goodness!

Found it! It's the Foundation series. Set in the very distant future, when Earth is basically not important. Great series...

I would like to see "A Wrinkle in Time" made into a movie, it could be a kids movie too, like the Potter Series because it's kids book. I've always loved that book, one of my favorites as a kid and I've wondered what it would look like in as a movie. Anyway, Heather, you're a silly girl. You took one line to correct a spelling error, a whole post to apologize for it, then remembered you didn't answer the question, so had to answer the question. Silly girl!
Megan, I got your B-Day card, thank you so much, it was thoughtful and wonderful and everything else that you are and I appreciate it!!! Sorry I had a temper tantrum when Chris got one and I didn't, it's the kid in me :) I hate this cold!!!!!

Yay! You got the birthday card, I was about to send the National Guard to ransack the mail until it was found. *happy dance*

I love A Wrinkle in Time. I've actually heard that they're going to be making a movie out of it, though that could just be unsubstantiated internet stuff. I would love to see that movie.
