May. 15th, 2006 01:26 pmHad a very nice Mother's Day. Made the Mum an Orange-scented Chocolate Almond Cake that turned out fairly well and would have been better if I had had a food processor, parchment paper, and a cake plate but it was still tasty and so very, very chocolate-y. It called for so much bittersweet chocolate and heavy cream that it couldn't help but be delicious. The Da and the Wrestler took care of dinner and the Big Lug called so all in all it was a good day.
NBC has announced it's line-up for next season. There are a couple shows that look interesting, mainly because of actor/producer involvement. They have Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip from Aaron Sorkin and starring Bradley Whitford and Matthew Perry, Kidnapped starring Mykelti Williamson, Heroes starring Greg Grunberg and Leonard Roberts (Forrest of BtVS fame), and two mid-season replacements: The Black Donnellys starring Kirk Acevedo and Raines from Graham Yost and starring Jeff Goldblum. I'll definitely end up watching Studio 60 (Sorkin and Josh and Chandler, oh my) and might catch some of the others. I'll try any show once.
I am wearing the ugliest pants today. My mother got them for me months ago and they've been sitting in a corner ever since. I was desperate today, woke up late and had nothing clean/ironed so I threw them on, hoping they'd look better then I thought they would. They don't, they're this weird black and white faux-tweed and tapered. I'll have to remember to get rid of them as soon as feasible.
I was playing the CSNY cd today and the Da made a, "That's music from my era" comment. There was a gathering of people in the front office and he shared his memory of Kent State. He was in the Army at the time (an unhappy draftee) and was appalled at the way the whole situation was handled. He maintains to this day that if it had been federal troops rather then national guardsmen no one would have died because federal troops are more disciplined and trained in riot control. His story fascinated me because it's a great example of POV and the importance of keeping that in mind when studying history or reading a story, his memory is not just about the tragic event but it's also colored by his life experiences at the time and says as much about his history as it does about the actual occurence.
Will Memorial Day Weekend never get here?
ETA: Apparently Connie Nielsen will be joining the SVU cast while Mariska Hargitay is on maternity leave. That's great! Ever since I saw Connie Nielsen in Gladiator I've been a huge fan. Good times.
EATA:
In no particular order:
Charles Gunn (Angel)
Josh Lyman (The West Wing)
Rupert Giles (BtVS)
Lewis Nixon (BoB)*
Dean Winchester (Supernatural)
Fox Mulder (The X-Files)
John Crichton (Farscape)
Bruce Wayne (Batman Begins, not comic)
Karl Agathon (BSG)
Eric Weiss (Alias)
*He doesn't quite fit the meme but the difference between cinematic representation and actual fact is enough to make it work in my book.

Date: 2006-05-15 07:00 pm (UTC)Kirk Acevedo back on TV and not just in some stupid teensy moment of a role!

Date: 2006-05-15 08:30 pm (UTC)Yeah, if we weren't so good at sharing things would get kinda hairy. No sturm and drang, no love triangles, just happy shared marriages and angst-free relationships.
